The degeneration of the industrial urban edge of New York City has left large latent landscapes fertile for new meaning and purpose. My thesis reconsiders the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal in Sunset Park, Brooklyn as a nexus for contemporary local production and public engagment. A successful intervention must consider the problematic juxtaposition of estimable twentieth century industrial structures with big box retail and merging transportation networks. Likewise it must situate itself to evolve concurrently with surrounding development.

BK Local will create a public interface, which can celebrate and showcase emerging regional artisans and bring the community closer to the processes by which products are made. An urban market that can expand conditionally as well as host public workshops offers an opportunity for transformation over time by connecting current practices with an evolving Brooklyn community. The urban market will link together with a Brooklyn Bike Kitchen and a ferry terminal stretched at intervals along the 39th Street pier to integrate movement and access, introduce a system of continuity, and propose places for future functions.

The Highbridge Pool and Recreation Center became a designated

landmark of NYC in 2007. Splash House received unanimous approval at the NYC

LPC public hearing on May 17, 2011

Splash House is The Design Workshops first project in a five-year collaboration between Parsons and NYCs Parks & Recreation. The design redirects the circulation of pool patons to outdoor changing

pavilions and locker rooms, and allows indoor recreation spaces to remain operable year-round.

Located next to Socrates Sculpture Park and the Noguchi Museum, Makers Market merges horticulture with making, community greenspace with handmade products and art. It reconfigures existing big box retail to compliment rather than conflict with new programs and to provide continuity of flow.

The conceptual model explores local connections

and is made solely from items found at Materials for

the Arts, which is located near the site and collects

donated supplies for re-use in arts & education.

Makers Market considers the Productive Waterfront : transit, market & culture along the industrial edge of Queens.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier One responds to an RFP for development along the newly public waterfront park adjacent the Brooklyn Bridge. While the proposal includes hotel, condo, and velodrome, this project focuses on the hotel component: transient guests are given views of lower Manhattan, the iconic bridge, and drawn and connected to the Brooklyn promenade.

Sectional study model: landscape creates secondary promenade which connects to the existing promenade and residential Brooklyn Heights.

10The Live-Work Townhouse is designed for an artist and writer couple in a Brooklyn neighborhood characterized by Romanesque Revival. Sited on a double-wide corner lot, the houses main stair functions as an inhabitable tromme wall responding to patterns of natural light, and work spaces are suspended pods offset in section.

Steeplechase Pier: an historic icon of the Coney Island boardwalk. LTL Architects were selected by NYCs Parks & Recreation and DDC to rehabilitate and reinvigorate this popular destination following the severe damage it incurred by Hurricane Sandy. The fast paced project inspired exciting new details slated for a quick summer completion.
