Jean Grey Jean Grey, Marvel girl from the original X-Men team, Phoenix, and

most powerful telepath of her time created the namesake of this school—her sacrifice to the X-Men for the greater good is memorialized at the front of the JGS

Jean GreyJean Grey represents sacrifice, but also, as the Phoenix, death and rebirth.

It’s fitting that a rebuild of the destroyed Charles Xavier School for Gifted Children hold her title, because Logan and his fellow mutants literally birthed this school from the ashes of what came before.

Jean Grey decided to die for the greater good, not allowing the Phoenix Force to devastate the universe and kill the friends and family dear to her. The sacrifice was particularly important to Logan, as he was the one tasked to kill her—because he was the only one able. Jean also stands at the front of the school as a reminder to Logan—a reminder that he is fighting to stop his remaining loved ones from dying.

Jean is a beacon—as bright as the Phoenix Flame she wielded—a reminder of dark pasts that is meant to shove people towards brighter futures.

James “Logan” Howlett Wolverine, alive since the 1880s, and the “best at what he does” is

the current headmaster of the JGS, taking on the duty of caring for the students and faculty. Logan is not typically known for his caring side, but it’s a large part of him. He raised some of the X-Men himself (Kitty Pryde and Jubilation Lee, notably), and has now taken on the task of pushing his students in the right direction and raising them as well.

LoganLogan is many things—a man who’s lived for more than 100 years…the Wolverine…a father figure to many…and currently, a headmaster to the school that is supposed to help mutantkind.

Logan is typically seen as gruff, grumpy, and animalistic—and certainly all of those things can be true for him. But he bases his actions strongly in his care for the people he loves. One of the strongest influences on his helming of the JGS was seeing mutant children being hurt by the current state of mutantkind. Despite outward appearances, Logan tries as hard as he can to build his life off caring.

Krakoa The Jean Grey School is unique in many ways—one being the fact that a large

amount of its land is actually Krakoa—a breed of living island. Their Krakoa is a mutant of sorts as well, being accepting and caring instead of destructive like most of the species. Krakoa allows students and faculty to have a literal relationship with the land.

Graveyard The Jean Grey School has a graveyard for fallen X-Men, as well as

Jean’s memorial at the front of the school, a statue for professor Xavier at the back, and a statue for Kurt Wagner under one of their willow trees. There is also holographic memorials of these three in the main hall.

Jean Grey School for Higher Learning The school itself is like a dream highschool—sometimes a nightmare too,

though. There’s caverns, waterparks, jungles…surprisingly normal hallways and classrooms…and Danger Room tests that randomly surprise students with mechanical attacks. Because why limit the danger to just one room? There are floating towers, one of which is entirely a botanical wonderland run by the headmistress Storm, an entire wing made of ice by Iceman, labs for miles that belong to Beast, and any other essential that could be imagined.

Oh, there’s also a slight infestation of teleporting interdimensional things called Bamfs.
