PRODUCTION NOTE: There are as many ways to stage JESUS
CHRIST
SUPERSTAR as there are directors and designers willing to bring
their own creative inventiveness to it. The simplicity of a
platformed stage consisting of several levels relying on lighting
to indicate place and changing scenes can foster as favourable an
atmosphere as the most lavish treatment. However, the ultimate
success of the production rests on the music:al and lyrical
content. In the end, it must be the music and lyrics which create
the mood, tell the story and make JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR the
unforgettable theatrical experience it is. In this script we have
included brief suggestions as to settings, entrances and exits, and
general movement. They are meant as guidelines, not as
scripture--to point possible directions, not to limit personal
conceptions. Throughout the script there are also numerical
notations (i.e .. 1, 2, 3, etc.) representing bars of music as
found in the piano-conductor score.
