JCI GHANA Newsletter Ghana JCI Ghana Wins Top Award at Africa and Middle East Conference The Africa and Middle East Conference of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) hosted by JCI South Africa in the Gold City of Johannesburg ended with glamorous Gala and Awards Night. The Awards Nights marks the end of JCI Conferences each year. At the event, JCI Ghana received two outstanding award prizes. A Member of JCI Ghana took away the most prestigious award for the night, the Most Outstanding Member in Africa and Middle East, won by Muhammed Alhassan Yakubu of JCI Tamale Premier. Also, JCI Accra Royale, a Local Organization of JCI Ghana won the Best Local Economic Empowerment Programme with its ‘Nothing But Nets’ Project which seeks to end malaria infections in communities in the La Dadekotopon Municipality. Speaking to the media after the event, JCI Ghana National President John Stephen Agbenyo expressed his delight about the height chalked by JCI Ghana and reiterates his commitment to ensure that Local Organizations in JCI Ghana implement sustainable projects that will lead to sustainable impact. He urged Ghanaian delegates at the Conference to put the knowledge and skills acquired during various sessions in the conference to good use by coaching their members to implement projects in line with the JCI Active Citizens Framework, which is a tool that guides JCI members in planning sustainable and impactful projects. JCI Ghana Wins Top Award at Africa and Middle East Conference
The Africa and Middle East Conference of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) hosted by

JCI Ghana Participates in Active Citizen Leadership Academy at the AMEC
The JCI 2016 International
Vice President, Ryad
Subratty arrived in Ghana on
4th
of April, 2016 for his
official visit to JCI Ghana as
one of his eight assigned
Countries. Others include;
Botswana, Congo, Djibouti,
Gabon, Madagascar, Mali
and Nigeria.
During his official visit, IVP
Ryad had the opportunity to
meet with JCI Ghana
members to
Ryad Subratty, nominated by JCI Mauritius, was elected as the 2016
JCI Vice President during the JCI World Congress that took place in
Kanazawa, Japan, in November 2015 during the 100th Anniversary of
the JCI Movement.

JCI City Mines’ member, Eunice Quayson has been appointed by President John Stephen
Agbenyo to coordinate local activities of Peace is Possible Campaign and liaise with regional
and international coordinators.
Peace is Possible Campaign is a global flagship project launched by 2016 JCI World
President, Paschal Dike in fulfillment of the vision of the organization to establish permanent
and everlasting world peace. Violence serves as a reminder of how relevant and necessary JCI
and other like-minded organizations are in today’s society.

JCI City Mines Organizes Leadership Academy
As part of activities to equip members to make positive
change in Tarkwa, JCI City Mines training commission
led by 2016 City Mines Training Director, Dina
Awotwe organized a leadership Academy on April 16-
17 at Tarkwa Awudua. Trainers were Senator Abraham

The project is aimed at reducing open defecation among
the people of Datoyili which often results in cholera and
polluting water bodies from getting contaminated with
human excreta that are washed into the dam during the
rainy season. It is geared towards promoting healthy
lifestyle with human excreta that are washed into the

children by encouraging them to wash their hands after
visiting the toilet.
The local organization organized a project visit to the project site and took advantage to pack
over 400 blocks which has so far been moulded towards the construction of the toilet facility.

JCI Ghana Undertakes Sensitization of Market Women as Part of the HIV/AIDS Anti-Stigma Project
publication and a marketing tool to rake in revenue for the sustainability of JCI Ghana.
The recently launched flagship periodical of JCI
Ghana, the Blue Book has attracted international
attention. At the Africa and Middle East
Conference held in Johannesburg, South Africa,
the Blue Book received massive endorsements
from JCI World President Paschal Dike, 2010
World President Roland Kwemain, Secretary
General Arrey Obensen, JCI Africa and Middle
East Advisors Senator Babajide and Jovan Ponfi.
They recognized the publication as a huge
success chalked by JCI Ghana and encouraged
JCI Ghana President John Stephen Agbenyo to
institutionalize the Blue Book as a regular

As part of activities under the JCI Ghana HIV/AIDS Anti-
Stigmatization Project implemented in collaboration with the
American Embassy in Ghana, a sensitization session on HIV
prevention, anti-stigmatization and discrimination was held
for market women in the Subin Sub-Metro of the Kumasi
Metropolis.
The sensitization activity sought to inform and educate
traders, mostly market women on the need to avoid
discrimination and stigmatization of PLHIV and measures to
adopt at both work place and home to reduce the spread of
HV/AIDS. It was facilitated by Terra Nyarko, Monitoring and
Evaluation Officer of the Ghana AIDS Commission Technical
Support Unit in the Ashanti Region and Sylvia Adusei, one of
JCI Ghana Anti-Stigma Ambassador.
In attendance were Ms Dzid Enyornam Kwami from the Public Affairs Unit of the America Embassy
in Ghana, officials from the Department of Gender under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social
Protection and Media personnel.
National President John Stephen Agbenyo led a team of
National Officers to pay courtesy calls on the High
Commissioner of Canada to Ghana His Excellency
Christopher Thornley to discuss issues of mutual
benefits to both the Canadian High Commission and
JCI Ghana especially in the run up to the JCI World
Congress later in the year in Quebec City in Canada.
The delegation also paid a visit to the Japanese High
Commission where discussions centered on how to
leverage on the human resource capacity of JCI
Ghana and development opportunities available at
the Japanese Embassy in Ghana.
JCI Ghana also called on Mr. Ras Mubarak, National
Coordinator of the National Youth Authority (NYA) at his Office to brief him about activities for the
year and to renew our commitment to empowering the youth of Ghana towards making a positive
impact in our communities.
Later, IVP Ryad Subratty led the National Board to pay a courtesy call on the American Embassy in
Ghana. The delegation was met by Dzid Enyornam Kwami of the Public Affairs Unit who also
doubles as the liaison for the HIV/AIDS Project.
