The Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of
religious Education, University of Bremen, Germany for Academic Exchange,
Collaborative Research and Student Exchange.

Ø The Seminar Presentations and Lectures delivered by the faculty have been
widely acknowledged in the academic community.
Ø A paper published by the faculty has been republished in a book as an example
of emerging perspectives in Islamic studies.
Ø Applied knowledge is generated in the fields of eco theology, Gender studies
and Islamic Feminism.

51. Detail five major Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges
(SWOC) of the department.
Strengths:
· It is the only department of Islamic studies across Tamil Nadu.
· Department has been taking efforts in bringing new perspectives in to Islamic
Studies as an academic discipline.
Weakness:
· Shortage of staff.
Opportunities:
· The Department has successfully established international collaborations and
agreements. Contacts have been made with leading scholars from across the world
universities.
Challenges:
· The Department is an endowment department, which limits the possibility of
expansion and growth as the financial resources are linked to the available fund in
the endowment. It is desired the department is brought under Non Plan account of
the University.
52. Future plans of the department.
The Department proposes to start a PG Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance
from the next academic year. The Curriculum for this course is being drafted.
