FAREWELL

This is bittersweet as I bid farewell to the students, staff and families of

Manor School. From the very first day, I was made to feel welcome and

quickly became part of the team. And we are a team – or we should be.

Schools wouldn’t exist without staff, students and parents.

Teaching staff – which includes bus drivers and custodians, education

and administrative assistants, support and teaching staff – each and

every one of these people spend time with students, teaching them,

guiding them, helping to mould children into intelligent and caring citi-

zens.

Most children have a natural curiosity and want to learn, and they have

already learned most of the important “stuff” before they even enter

school – to listen, to share, to take turns, to be polite. They need an

education and they cannot learn if they don’t attend.

Parents, it is your responsibility to get your kids to school, to encourage

their learning, to support the school. We cannot – the staff and stu-

dents – do it alone. We need your help, your input and expertise, and

most especially your support. We need you to be part of our team.

It has been my privilege to work alongside the staff of Manor School.

Their knowledge and skills, commitment and dedication are unparal-

leled across the division.

The students and I have shared lots of laughs, a few tears, some swears,

probably even a couple of lies. Some stories were happy and some were

sad. But every story had meaning and merit and I am truly honored

that you shared them with me.

The African proverb tells us, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Thank

you for allowing me to be a temporary part of your village. I may not be

leaving much behind, but I am taking a lot of Manor with me.

Until our paths cross again …

Marg Phenix,

“Welcome to Mr. Broccolo, our new school counsellor! He is replacing Mrs. Phenix who retired on Dec 21. Mr. Broccolo will be at Manor School every Tuesday.”

The students of Mrs. Parker’s K/1/2 celebrated Christmas together on the last day of classes by sharing a potluck holiday dinner together, complete with Christmas crackers and Christmas carols. The class later presented two Christ-mas songs in the Manor School Variety Show – “Snoopy’s Christmas” and “Christmas Time is Here”.

Students in Mrs. Parker’s K/1/2 class were challenged to read one book a night for 100 nights. Students who completed the challenge were awarded a “doggy bag” of prizes. On January 4th, four students completed the challenge: Alex Corkish and Peyton Harper (Kindergarten), Cadence Harper (Grade 1) and Isa-bella McWhan (Grade Two). Congratulations to our readers and we look for-ward to ALL the students in the class receiving their own “doggy bags”!

Mrs. Parker

In the month of December the

Grade 3/4/5/6 class worked su-

per hard at creating a hip hop

dance called “The Christmas

Clap.” They performed this dance

at the Talent Show on December

21st and did a fantastic job! We

would like to send out a huge

thank you to Mrs. Logan who

came into our classroom and

helped choreograph the dance! It

was greatly appreciated. Great job

Grade 3/4/5/6!

We have read a total of 5250

minutes at home since the start of

September! Great job everyone

that has brought in their Home

Reading Logs at the end of each

month. Keep reading at home as

much as you can!

Grade 5/6’s have been experi-

menting with changes in matter

in Science. Here are a few pic-

tures of the students making

“Oobleck”. Ask any grade 5/6 how

to make this fun, slimy creation!

Reminder to all students to dress

warm for recess as the winter

weather is here!
