There was a Christmas party in the library to celebrate the hard

work done by irst years in Homework Club. Homework Club is acollaboration between the JCSP library and the SchoolCompletion Programme and is on for an hour after school in theibrary. Students are given a snack and help with their home-

work. It is a quiet place to do homework and to develop goodtudy skills. First years who are interested in coming to

Homework Club should contact Ms Bingham-Shee.

There is a new bookclub for students in St Nessan’s JCSP libraryevery Friday at lunchtime. Students choose their own books from

the library, read at their own pace and recommend the ones theyenjoy! We talk about books that we like in an informal way. Allbooks are provided by the library free of charge. Please note, that entry to the library at lunchtime on Fridays in restricted tobookclub members only. If you are interested in joining Bookclub, please talk to Ms Bingham-Shee or Ms Magee.

On the 18th of January, the 3DE class enjoyed an alternative production of Romeo and Juliet presented by Cyclone Rep. To quote theirown brochure “Shakespeare comes to life in The Romeo and Juliet Session”. It was interactive and aimed to assist students with theirxam revision for Junior Cert.

They were accompanied by their teacher Erin Beaumont, tutor Patricia Campbell Cuddihy and Dympna Cremin. Lunch was had in theestaurant in Mary Immaculate, followed up by a visit to the Art Gallery and The Granary Library. Altogether we had a very enjoyablend informative day.

BE COOL _ STAY IN SCHOOL SSchool Completion Programme

Newsletter Coordinator: Michael O’Connor

Thursday 21st Jan 2016 St. Nessan’s was the host schoolfor an Energy Awareness day.Invited Schools from within the Limerick Clare Education& Training Board partook in this exciting day.The students interest peaked by the thermal imagingcamera – it showed the amount of heat that came off aperson but this could be used in a house to show wherecold air was leaking in through windows & doors. Thewhiter the image the hotter the surface. The students gave it great gusto to produce energy using abicycle with a dynamo attached to produce energy. The students were fully informed on the most ef icientkind of lightbulbs that are available on the consumermarket and how to read and understand the informationon the back of a light bulb box package. We all learned that we have to be S.M.A. R. T. in our ap-proach to conserving Energy at home and also at school.S. = Speci ic (target to reduce our use of energy)M. = Measurable ( read the meters e.t.c.)A. = Attainable ( we can do it)

R. = Realistic (We will do it)T. = Time bound ( within a time limit) St. Nessan’s must extend the gratitude to Fiona O Loughlin– Environmental Engineer for approaching the school tohold this fantastic Energy forum. Everybody involved onthe day really were delighted going home with an extranugget of information to save the planet (& put €urosback into their pocket) Thank youMaedhbh Dennison (Green Schools Coordinator)

Energy Awareness Day

The students found the FFL programmeun, enjoyable and very interesting.

What the Students said :-

We learned how to think positive. We learned to realise that it is OK to havevery feeling, but it is how we behave with

our feelings that is important. We have become aware that things are notalways as bad as they seem. When things get tough we have the power tohink happy thoughts for ourselves.

We feel more secure knowing that we haveamily and friends we can talk to when times

are dif icult. We have learned that solving a big problems like eating a huge big chocolate cake – Onemall bite at the time.

We have to remind ourselves to practice what we learned in Friends For life.We really loved doing the Friends for Life on a Friday morning and we would recommendall irst years to do it.

Ms. Dennison gave us hot chocolate with marshmallows and chocolate biscuits. Yummy!!
