A. Predict
Reread lines 1-9. What do you think Cupid is going to do? Use clues from the text to help you make reasonable guesses about what will happen next. For example, Apollo speaks angrily to Cupid (lines 3-6) and Cupid threatens Apollo (lines 7-9).
B. Cultural values
Reread lines 32-42. In what way does Daphne's behavior show disrespect toward elders?
Pause and reflect
Is Cupid's pride causing positive or negative consequences? Explain.
C. Predict
Review lines 52-77. Predict what will happen next. Underline clues in the selection that support your prediction.
D. Cultural values
Think about how the events of the myth start with Apollo's disrespect of another god - his boastful pride about his accomplishments and his insults toward Cupid. What lessons does the myth teach?
