As we set aside valuable time for this discussion, we encourage each parishioner to apportion God’s blessings for the work and ministry of this parish. No matter how measurable or how modest, wise giving involves a select portion of a person’s income. Wise giving is planned and proportionate. People ask, “Is the amount of my financial gift really proportionate to my ability to give?” For sensible thought and action, everyone wants a reasonable starting point. Some begin with an amount that seems to be possible for anyone, contributing 1-2% of regular income to the Lord and his work. Others choose to contribute 5%. An established, biblical view of tithing encourages a regular amount of 10%. One thing is sure: as is true in your own individual or family budget, your commitment to make regular, proportionate gifts provides this parish with a valuable planning tool, and that benefits everyone. Please plan to give a regular, proportionate share, no matter how substantial, no matter how modest.

STEWARDSHIP OF FINANCE

Giving Is Proportionate

We are beginning our Stewardship of Finance phase of our Total Stewardship program. LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, All the Days of 2013 pack a lot of events and memories in them. Perhaps you were part of some of them? Parish life follows many Cycles of time and all of it is blessed. Thank all of you for making 2012 so memorable. Looking ahead into the future, there will be a new Marriage Enrichment called Partners on the Journey offered this Lent. Evening of Spiritual Formation for Liturgical Ministers #2

Tuesday, January 22, 7:00-8:30pm Fr. Engels Hall

Does God Have a Plan for My Life [and how do I know it???]

Exploring the Year of Faith continues for all Liturgical Ministers. With the second of seven presentations on Does God Have a Plan For My Life??? All of us would want life to be not just a spin on the wheel of chance, but that there be meaning and purpose. Come explore this question, to discover your answer.

MOVING? CHANGE OF ADDRESS? If you are moving out of the parish or have a change of address and wish to remain in the parish, PLEASE NOTIFY THE PARISH OFFICE. Eve-ry week, envelopes are returned to us and the parish has to pay the postage due. It can get quite costly. The post office will not forward envelopes to a new address even if you have filled out a mail for-warding form. If you let us know your plans soon enough, your envelope service can continue uninter-rupted.

Reflecting on God’s Word

Matthew’s tale is less a story of adventurous seekers than of a luring God, drawing others into the mystery of divinity through the birth of Jesus. A star that guides and wise words that explain are what help lead the magi to their destination. Natural signs and words of revelation are what God works through in our own day to bring us into the presence of Jesus, the Son of God. The story of the wise men is a journey that surrounds the birth of Jesus. It speaks to all seeking God in today’s world. God does not use force to attract others. Angels speak a message of joy for all but give no orders that insist that the shepherds journey through the dark of night to worship. A star appears in the sky but no one forces these astrologers to pack up some gifts and make their way across foreign terrain to kneel and prostrate themselves and do Jesus homage. At the heart of this story is the message announced in the letter to the Ephesians: God’s plan was that everyone be included in the mystery of salvation, that, along with the children of Abraham, “the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 3:6). God wants everyone to share in divine life—everyone! Give it your thoughtful consideration. —James A. Wallace, C.SS.R. Copyright © 2012, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.
