Observance of “Days with Religious” will fo-cus on prayer, service, community. Pope Fran-cis proclaimed the Year of Consecrated Life for renewal, remembrance, hope. National conferences of religious orders to actively participate.

As the Catholic Church prepares to celebrate the Year of Consecrated Life, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations is promoting “Days with Religious” initia-tives and resources to help families learn about the consecrated life of religious men and women. Activities will focus on sharing expe-riences of prayer, service and community life with those living a consecrated life. “Our brothers and sisters in Christ living conse-crated lives make great contributions to our socie-ty through a vast number of ministries,” said Arch-bishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky, president of USCCB. “They teach in our schools, take care of the poor and the sick and bring com-passion and the love of Christ to those shunned by society; others lead lives of prayer in contem-plation for the world.” Pope Francis proclaimed 2015 a Year of Conse-crated Life, starting on the First Sunday of Advent, the weekend of November 29, 2014, and ending on February 2, 2016, the World Day of Consecrat-ed life. The year also marks the 50th anniversary of Perfectae Caritatis, a decree on religious life, and Lumen Gentium, the Second Vatican Coun-cil’s constitution on the Church. Its purpose, as stated by the Vatican is to “make a grateful re-membrance of the recent past” while embracing “the future with hope.” “The ‘Days with Religious’ activities will represent great opportunities for families and adults to look at the many ways men and women serve Christ and the Church while answering the call to live in consecrated life,” said Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of Raleigh, North Carolina, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations. Catholics are invited to join activities that will be promoted in collaboration with the Council of Ma-jor Superiors of Women Religious.

The Epiphany of the Lord The Three Kings, or Magi, are mentioned only in the Gospel of Matthew. Few details are given about these men in the Bible, and most of our ideas about them actually come from tradition or speculation. Scripture does not say how many wise men there were, but it is generally assumed three, since they brought three gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The Feast of the Epiphany of Our Lord Jesus Christ is one of the old-est Christian feasts. The word Epiphany comes from a Greek verb Epiphainan meaning “to reveal, to shine upon, or, to make known”, thus, the feast of the Epiphany cele-brates the many ways that Christ has made Himself known to the world. The Epiphany celebrates God's revealing or manifesting of Jesus' identity as true God, Messiah, and Savior of the world. It not only commemorates the fact that Jesus appeared to save us, but that God revealed the identity of Jesus to the world. The Feast of the Epiphany is a Holy Day of Obligation. In most countries, this celebration is transferred to the Sunday between January 2nd and January 8th , there-fore, the obligation is fulfilled by at-tending Mass on Sunday.

La Epifanía del Señor

Los Tres Reyes Magos, se mencionan sólo en el Evangelio de Mateo. Pocos detalles se dan acerca de estos hombres en la Biblia, y la mayoría de nues-tras ideas acerca de ellos en realidad provienen de la tradición o la especulación. Las Sagradas Escritu-ras no nos dicen cuántos hombres sabio hubo,, pero por lo general, se asume que habían tres, ya que trajeron tres regalos: oro, incienso y mirra. La fiesta de la Epifanía de nuestro Señor Jesucristo es una de las fiestas cristianas mas antiguas. La pa-labra Epifanía viene de un verbo griego epiphainan que significa “revelación o dar a conocer”, así

pues, la Epifanía celebra todas las mane-ras en que se manifiesta Jesús al mundo. La Epifanía celebra la manifestación reve-ladora de Dios de la identidad de Jesús como verdadero Dios, Mesías, y Salvador del mundo. No sólo conmemora el hecho de que Jesús se apareció a salvarnos, sino que Dios reveló la identidad de Jesús al mundo. La fiesta de la Epifanía es día de precepto. En la mayoría de los países esta celebración es transferida al domingo que cae entre el 2 y el 8 de enero, de esta ma-nera, se cumple la obligación asistiendo a misa el domingo.

La naissance d'un roi des Juifs au temps d'Hérode le Grand, voilà un mélange explosif! Les historiens ra-content que le roi devenu vieux se cachait dans ses forteresses. Il avait fait tuer trois de ses fils, sa belle-mère et une de ses dix épouses. Saint Matthieu écrit: “Le roi fut saisi d'inquiétude, et tout Jérusalem avec lui. Il réunit tous les chefs des prêtres et tous les scribes d'Israël.” Des mages d'Orient annoncent la venue d'un autre Règne et d'un autre Roi! L'évangéliste pour qui le Royaume des Cieux sera le thème central nous pose implicitement la question: “Lequel des deux doit régner? Hérode, le potentat meurtrier, puissant et violent? Ou bien ce frêle enfant nouveau-né, Serviteur de Dieu déjà rejeté par les amis du pouvoir et plus tard crucifié?” Selon un procédé d'inclusion littéraire très fréquent en littérature sémitique, saint Mat-thieu reviendra sur ce thème à la fin de son livre, dans le récit de la Passion. Il le fera avec beaucoup d'insistance. “Salut, Roi des Juifs!” diront les soldats à Jésus après lui avoir posé sur la tête une imitation du diadème rayonnant des rois grecs vaincus et tournés en dérision par les Romains. “Celui-ci est le Roi des Juifs!” Inscrira Pilate. “C'est le roi d'Israël: qu'il descende maintenant de la croix et nous croirons en lui!” S’esclafferont à leur tour les scribes et les grands-prêtres. C'est donc tout l'évangile qui est annoncé ici. La royauté de ce roi-là n'est pas de ce monde. Le contraste d'aujourd'hui nous fait comprendre que son titre ne ressemblera en rien à celui d'Hérode; bien au contraire, il sera dévoilé paradoxalement dans le re-jet et l'humiliation de la croix. C'est alors seulement que Dieu relèvera son Serviteur. Il soulignera ainsi et fera connaître à tous les peuples l'intuition que les mages ont suivie en levant les yeux vers l'étoile: le Messie, le Roi des Juifs, c'est lui! Saint Matthieu oppose donc deux attitudes. D'une part, le refus des chefs politiques et religieux qui ont peur, qui s'inquiètent et qui cherchent à le faire mourir. Ce rejet du Règne sera omniprésent dans cet évangile. D'autre part — et cela répondra aux questions soulevées par les Juifs convertis — les païens comme les mages seront beaucoup plus nombreux à croire au Messie et à se joindre à l'Église naissante. Ils seront à leur tour remplis d'une très grande joie et se prosterneront en reconnaissant en Jésus leur Roi et leur Seigneur.

What is the Epiphany? On Sunday we celebrate the Epiphany and we call it the three wise Kings cele-bration as well . Why? Because Epiphany means “manifestation” and in Saint Matthew’s gospel it is mentioned that the 3 Kings arrived in Bethlehem looking for “the jew’s king”, mentioning what was announced by the prophets and guided by the star to the portal of Bethlehem. Finding there the baby and His mother Mary, postrate in adoration. How do we know this? God manifested this to them. That is the reason why this celebration is called Epiphany. There are 2 more Epiphanies, Saint John the Baptist in the Jordan river and to his disciples in the begin-ning of his public life with the 1st miracle in the Canas wedding.

¿Qué es la Epifanía? El Domingo celebramos la Epi-fanía, pero esa fiesta también la llamamos la Fiesta de los reyes Magos. ¿Por qué? Porque Epifanía quiere decir “manifestación” y es que en el Evangelio de Mateo, se nos dice que los 3 reyes magos llegan a Belén buscando “al rey de los Judíos”, mencionan lo anunciado por los profetas y son guiados por la estrella hasta el portal de Belén. Encuentran dentro del portal al niño y a su madre María, se postran y le adoran. ¿Cómo saben esto? Pues Dios se los mani-festó. Por eso esa fiesta se llama Epifanía. Hay dos Epifanías más, la de San Juan el Bautista en el Jordán, y la Epifanía a sus discípulos en el comienzo de su vida pública en su primer milagro en la Bodas de Cana.

El próximo 7 de Enero, regresaremos a clases, habrá una sola sesión a las 6:00 PM. Tendremos una re-presentación de la Epifanía de los Reyes Magos. Es-peramos hayan tenido unas excelentes celebracio-nes de Navidad y Año Nuevo. Nos alegraremos ver-los de regreso, y le daremos la bienvenida con los brazos abiertos. Las sesiones regulares de 5-7 co-menzaran el día 14 de E nero del 2015.

We hope you had an ex-cellent Christmas and New Years celebration We are glad to see you again and we welcome your re-turn with open arms. Regular scheduled 5th and 7th pm sessions will resume Jan. 14, 2015.

Due to the fact that we are already way into mid year of the faith formation classes, the registration for the Wednesday sessions will resume in April 2015, for the year 2015-2016.

Re-lax on a boat ride on the lake with its breathtaking views, including the Peñol Rock that formed 70 mil-lion years ago. Then off to Cartagena for a tour of this historical gem and much more.
