Scripture Reading: John 2:13-25 Lee Ann Bricco

The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. Making a whip of cords, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. He told those who were selling the doves, “Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father’s house a marketplace!” His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” The Jews then said to him, “What sign can you show us for doing this?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” The Jews then said, “This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?” But he was speaking of the temple of his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.

When he was in Jerusalem during the Passover festival, many believed in his name because they saw the signs that he was doing. But Jesus on his part would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people and needed no one to testify about anyone; for he himself knew what was in everyone.

One: May God bless the reading of the word.

One: Let us give thanks to God. All: It is right to give thanks and praise to our God.

One: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere, to give thanks to our Sovereign God, who through the great teacher and prophet, Jesus, brought good news to the poor, proclaimed release to the captives, recovered sight for the blind, and let the oppressed go free. Therefore, in the company of each other, those who have gone before us, and those around the world who cry out for liberation, we declare in praise…

All: Holy, Holy, Holy, God of boundless mercy and unending love, How majestic is your name in all the earth! Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of God; Hosanna in the highest.

Words of Institution

One: Glory to God, in whose image we are made, in whom we live and breathe and have our being, and who is present with and among us, forever and always,

All: Thanks be to God as we gather together to meet you, to share your meal, to celebrate your love, and to become strengthened to serve you and our neighbor. Hallelujah!

The Do Unto Others Fund is our way of reaching out past the walls of All God’s Children and providing our support to organizations making a difference across the world. The DUO fund recipient this week is:

AGC Benevolence Fund - The Benevolence Fund is one of the chief ways that we help those in our community who are in need. Proceeds from this fund are used for a range of needs, including bus passes, food for hungry families, or money to pay utility bills. We are called to serve those in need around the state, and God equips us with the means to make this happen. What we share from our abundance can make a difference.

Together, we raised the following amounts for our DUO Fund recipients:

AGC Benevolence Fund - $924 MCC Fellowship Offering - $259

African American AIDS Task Force - $878 Guyana Lutheran Music Academy - $777

“Jesus himself is the new Temple at the heart of the new creation, against that day when the whole earth shall be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. And so this Temple, like the wilderness tabernacle, is a temple on the move, as Jesus's people go out, in the energy of the Spirit, to be the dwelling of God in each place, to anticipate that eventual promise by their common and cross-shaped life and work.”

Holy One, wisdom of the ages, God of a thousand voices, thank you for gathering us in your presence. Thank you for naming us as your beloved, calling us to serve you and your people. Hallow this sanctuary, O God, that this may be a house of prayer for all peoples. Let your body be the temple for the very presence of God in our midst. Call us over and over again so that we may hear you and know you have called us. Give us hope, vision, solace, and courage as we confront the powers and assume our place as workers in your vineyard. In the name of all that is holy. Amen.

If you or someone you love is in need of special prayer, enter that request into the black pew pads located at the end of every aisle and the AGC community will include them into our special prayers for this week.

Inspiring words of wisdom from individuals whose lives and witness empower us.
