As functions become more automated, infinite data is being generated, which can be highly useful to an organization and particularly the Internal Audit group to more effectively and efficiently plan, test, and continuously monitor. In addition, Auditors are able to look at factors they may not have previously been able to due to complexities, volume, time, or other restraining factors. This training event will be a great opportunity for all as the use of data analytics within an Internal Audit function keeps rising. Lastly, with social media outlets now the new norm for companies to connect and even conduct business with their customers/clients, the risks and implica- tions of utilizing social media becomes greater. Internal Auditors should be aware of those risks and how they can help in protecting their organization from serious damage. For that reason, the WNY IIA Chapter is happy to be partnering with the WNY ACFE Chapter to bring our members an all-day event in March on social media investigating presented by Cynthia Hetherington, President of the Hetherington Group. January President’s Message Adding Value in a World of Technology
With businesses relying on technology more than ever, to make sure our mem-
bers are kept abreast of the latest trends, systems, and topics, for the beginning
of 2015 we will be bringing you trainings to cover all such aspects. It was kicked-
off with another successful joint IIA & ISACA all-day IT Seminar on January 14,
2015. Areas covered included cyber security, virtual currency, cloud-based secu-
rity, and third party risk with a touch of magic! No matter your industry field,
our expert presenters provided insightful knowledge, tips, ideas, and examples
that can be employed at your organization and add value.
To continue on the IT Seminar’s momentum, our next training event will be Inte-
grating Data Analytics in a Risk-Based Audit Plan presented by Rohit Kundu, Con-
sultant at Caseware Analytics on February 12, 2015. As functions become more
automated, infinite data is being generated, which can be highly useful to an
organization and particularly the Internal Audit group to more effectively and
efficiently plan, test, and continuously monitor. In addition, Auditors are able to
look at factors they may not have previously been able to due to complexities,
volume, time, or other restraining factors. This training event will be a great
opportunity for all as the use of data analytics within an Internal Audit function
keeps rising.
Lastly, with social media outlets now the new norm for companies to connect
and even conduct business with their customers/clients, the risks and implica-
tions of utilizing social media becomes greater. Internal Auditors should be
aware of those risks and how they can help in protecting their organization from
serious damage. For that reason, the WNY IIA Chapter is happy to be partnering
with the WNY ACFE Chapter to bring our members an all-day event in March on
social media investigating presented by Cynthia Hetherington, President of the
Hetherington Group.
I hope you will take advantage of one, or all, of these great training opportuni-
ties!
