Kootenai FallsThirteen miles west of Libby, Kootenai Falls occurs at the point that the Kootenai River dramatically loses 300 feet in elevation over the course of a few hundred yards. The Falls are popular with visitors, hikers and kayakers willing to brave the falls and rapids.
Yaak FallsWest of Libby is the Yaak valley, certainly one of the most scenic drives in an already pristine area. The 98-mile drive through the Yaak is alone worth the effort, even if it weren’t punctuated by the Yaak Falls. The Falls are on Yaak River Road just north of its junction with US Highway 2. Visitors can climb down to the Falls and explore the area where the Yaak River begins its tumble into the Kootenai River.
Ski Turner MountainLocated 22 miles north of Libby, Montana, Turner Mountain is an ideal spot for skiing, with the excellent snow conditions, wide-open slopes, and fabulous scenery. Turner Mountain boasts trails and slopes designed to suit every skier, as well as many miles of ski terrain that makes every descent of the mountain an exciting satisfying, thrilling experience. Ross Creek Cedars Scenic Area was preserved in 1960 when 100 acres was set aside for the purpose. The route to the cedar grove follows State Highway 56 south of Bull Lake, and then continues for four miles west into the mountains.
Heritage MuseumThe Heritage Museum, located on Highway 2 just south of Libby, has displays on local area history and wildlife exhibits. The Museum is a 12-sided log structure, 130 feet in diameter, completed and manned entirely by volunteers. Exhibits include information about the Kootenai Indians as well as early trappers, lumbermen, women, and miners who came to the area. Many examples of local wildlife can also be found on display in the Museum, including a silver-tipped grizzly bear, bald eagles, deer and many others.
Libby Dam and Lake KoocanusaLibby Dam spans the Kootenai River 17 miles upstream from town. The Dam is 422 feet tall and 3,055 feet long and forms Lake Koocanusa in its wake: 90 miles long with a maximum depth of 370 feet. The Libby Dam offers tours of the Dam and hosts a museum of Dam and area history. Lake Koocanusa is also a popular recreational spot for boating, fishing, and hiking.

If you’re not familiar with the program curves then you should be! Curves is a health and fitness program that some say its saved their lives. Exercise at Curves for thirty minutes, three times
a day and they guarantee you will see changes. Curves is a place where everybody ends up losing weight. They offer circuit training with stretching all in 30 minutes. These 30 minutes address cardio as well and some weight lifting. It is a lifestyle change and once you begin you will increase your stamina and energy. Who could ask for a more convenient way to become healthy?
Recently Lynn Ekstrom took ownership of the Curves in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Lynn moved to Bonners Ferry 28 years ago and she has also worked at the Sheriff’s Office for fifteen years. When curves first opened, she was a
member and liked the idea. When curves was going to close she decided to take over to keep the opportunity for the people of Boundary County to be fit and healthy.
Did you know that if you have Humana or Sterling insurance they will pay your membership fees! Curves international has supported many causes. One example is breast cancer. And there are always promotions. Right now for high school students Lynn is running a special of no membership fees and flat fees per semester instead! Many would like to get healthy and fit for graduation. As for everyone else out there if your looking for a way to lower your numbers (blood sugar, cholesterol, etc.), become fit and healthy or lose that extra weight for the new year...come try out Curves! Put your health and fitness first and everything else will fall into place. Call Lynn at Curves today and get 50% off the sign up fee, plus many more special offers!

Rawlings Community Counseling specializes in mental health counseling and addictions treatment. They started with a small group of therapists working independently. Executive
Director and practicing counselor Treva Rawlings says, “We realized that we are stronger together and our community would greatly benefit from our teamwork.” The result has been four like-minded professionals coming together with a drive to assist their community. “We were aware of a lack of services in Boundary County and felt committed to filling that need,” says Rawlings. So in the fall they rented space and began their journey creating Rawlings Community Counseling.
RCC provides Mental Health Counseling for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.Addictions
services provide adolescent and adult outpatient and intensive outpatient Addictions Treatment. To sweeten the deal, RCC also has two therapists who are trained in EMDR, a well-known and highly respected trauma treatment in the industry. “It feels good to know that I am working with a team who brings a combined 50 years experience in the helping industry,” says Adam Kusler, the RCC Treatment Manager. “The varied backgrounds and range of expertise is often hard to find
in one agency.”
Coming Soon RCC will be accepting Medicaid insurance and BPA funding in the very near future. Enrollment for all services is currently open. Call today for more information and appointment.

LATE FOR SUNDAY SCHOOLThe little boy was late for Sunday school and the superintendent, seeing him slip in, detained him and asked him the reason. The boy shuffled his feet uncertainly for a moment, then blurted out, “I started out to go fishing instead, but my dad wouldn’t let me.”
The superintendent beamed broadly. “A wise father,” he said. “He was quite right not to let you go fishing on a Sunday. Did he explain why?”
The little boy nodded. “Oh, yes sir. He said there wasn’t enough bait for the two of us.”
PET BILLSWhile waiting at the veterinarian’s office, I overheard two women chatting about their dogs.
“What’s your dog’s name?” asked the first woman.
“Well, we used to call her Pork Chop,” answered the second lady. “But after the vet bills we’ve had for her, we now call her Filet Mignon.”
DOG FIGHTA man walks into a bar one day and asks, “Does anyone here own that rottweiler outside?”
“Yeah, I do!” a biker says, standing up. “What about it?”
“Well, I think my chihuahua just killed him...”
“What are you talkin’ about?!” the biker says, disbelievingly. “How could your little runt kill my rottweiler?”
“Well, it seems he got stuck in your dog’s throat!”
EARTH SCIENCE CLASSThe teacher of the earth science class was lecturing on map reading. After explaining about latitude, longitude, degrees and minutes the teacher asked, “Suppose I asked you to meet me for lunch at 23 degrees, 4 minutes north latitude and 45 degrees, 15 minutes east longitude...?”
After a confused silence, a voice volunteered, “I guess you’d be eating alone.”
