    LAKEWOOD, NJ Tyler Wolfe

earned top honors in the Saturday

    Scratch League at Ocean Lanes

blasting a 300 game then adding

games of 235 and 268 to finish

with the high series of 803.

    Ryan 248, Andrew Lazarchu

    247, Nic Chihrichello 246, Amb

    By Bill Vint - PBA

    LAS VEGAS Ryan Ciminelli of

    Cheektowaga, N.Y., converted dis-

    appointment into determination,

    winning the Professional Bowlers

    Association Chameleon

    Championship for his second PBA

Tour title with an inspired 258-203

    victory over Englands Dom Barrett.

The third of seven telecasts from

PBA World Series of Bowling V at

the South Point Hotel and Casino

complex aired on ESPN. It again

featured the use of blue oil to help

fans see the otherwise invisible lane

conditioning pattern. The Chameleon pattern was

applied to 43 feet compared to a 35-foot applicationfor the Cheetah Championship and 39 feet for the

    Viper pattern in previous weeks.

Ciminelli, bowling in the wake of a bitter loss to

Chris Barnes in the Viper Championship title match,

when he left a 7-10 split in the final

    frame, started his battle against

Barrett with three strikes and never

trailed. When Barrett closed to with-

in two pins after five frames,

    Ciminelli threw another string of

five strikes to race away with his

first title since winning the 2011 Earl

    Anthony Memorial.

It was tough to put (the Viper)

behind me, but I decided to use it as

inspiration instead of letting it get to

    me, the 27-year-old left-hander

said. I felt really good. I broke the

lane down the way I wanted to and

    created some room for myself.

I knew the (right) side really wasnt that good, hecontinued. I knew if I stayed within myself, 220,

    230 would probably win.

Cook of Granite Bay, Calif., and

Doug Kent of Newark, N.Y., have

been elected to the United StatesBowling Congress Hall of Fame in

    the Superior Performance category.

The two were among six bowlers

on the men's national ballot this

year, and though they fell short of

the required 70 percent of the votes

cast by a USBC panel of veteran

bowling writers, hall of famers and

Cook and Kent will join three

    other inductees, who were elected

in November by the USBC Hall of

    Fame Committee. John Gaines of

    !! Remember you read it

    here FIRST !!

The second title feels better (than the first), Ciminelli added. It

been too long. You know you can win after the first one, but you wa

three years and you begin to ask yourself if youre a one-hit wonder. Snow thats off my shoulders.

Barrett, who was the top qualifier for the Chameleon stepladder final

was a bit confused at the start of the match.

I didnt feel like I made many bad shots, but my ball reaction didn

look very good, Barrett said. One time it would hook, the next time

would go straight. Its not the kind of scenario you want going into a tit

match against someone who was throwing the ball as well as Ryan was

Barrett insisted the blue oil had no bearing on anything, echoin

    Ciminellis sentiments.

I think when you get to a certain level, your ball is your guide, h

said of the colored oil. Youve grown up reading ball reaction. That

how we make our decisions. Thats how we win tournaments, so an

visual aid out there might be great for TV or young bowlers, but whe

you get to this level, it doesnt matter. Were going to use informatio

available to us like pattern length, the type of oil, the lane surface. All o

those things make a huge difference, but visually, were going to rea

ball motions. We know what we do.

If you paid too much attention to (the blue oil), youd be ignoring th

facts of what youve been doing all week. Ball motion is far more impo

    tant.

Ciminelli, the No. 3 qualifier coming into the Chameleon finals, ra

away from Tom Smallwood of Saginaw, Mich., in the first match, 25

197, and was equally impressive in eliminating Brian Kretzer of Dayto

Ohio, 235-179, in the semifinal match.

The Chameleon telecast also included the third of four special PB

League Challenge segments in which the eight PBA League franchi

players are demonstrating their skills in unique competitions. In th

Obstacle Bowling round, players tried to knock down as many pins a

they could by throwing three shots through or around an obstacle cours

of rubber pins positioned at intervals down the lane.

BROOKLYN STyLES franchise player Sean Rash won the compet

tion in a one-ball roll-off against Pittsburgh Jack Rabbits franchise pla

er Osku Palermaa after they tied at 28 out of a possible total of 30.The obstacle course was fun, Rash said. Im pretty good at throw

ing it hard and straight off the corner, and hooking it as much as poss

ble. You were just trying to hit a target, draw a line and throw it har

and I was able to come out on top in that one.

Visually (obstacle bowling) isnt much different than what we do

added Chris Barnes, who represented the Silver Lake Atom Splitters an

tied for second with a 27. There is always (an invisible) sand trap or

tree that you have to avoid, but physically you cant see them represen

    ed like (the rubber pins).

Cook, 56, was a dominant southpaw on the Professional Bowlers

Association Tour during the 1980s, collecting 15 PBA titles from 1979-

1992. His success included three major victories - the PBA Tournamentof Champions (1981), PBA Touring Players Championship (1983) and

Bowling Proprietors' Association of America U.S. Open (1986).

His efforts earned him election into the PBA Hall of Fame in 1993 and

the 25th spot on the PBA's 2008 list of the 50 Greatest Players in PBA

History. Cook finished ninth at the 1981 USBC Masters and was a first-

team USBC All-American in 1986 and second-team selection in 1981

    and '83.

Kent had a career year on the PBA Tour during the 2006-07 season. He

earned his second USBC Masters title and took home the PBA Player of

    the Year award.

The 46-year-old right-hander owns 10 PBA titles, including four

majors - the USBC Masters (1991 and 2006) and PBA World

Championship (2002 and 2007). His success helped him to the No. 43

spot among the 50 Greatest Players in PBA History and into the PBA

    Hall of Fame in 2013.

    A first-team USBC All-American in 2002 and 2006 and a second-team

selection in 1997 and 2000, Kent is a member of the Canandaigua, N.Y.,and Lake Ontario, N.Y., Halls of Fame and the Rochester, N.Y., Walk of

    Fame.

The USBC Hall of Fame was created in 2005 by merging the former

ABC and WIBC Halls of Fame. With the five new inductees, there will

be 407 members of the USBC Hall of Fame - 271 in Performance, 116

in Meritorious Service and 20 Pioneers.

The induction ceremony will take place April 24 at the 2014 USBC

    Convention in Reno, Nev.
