Congratulations to the Varsity boys’ basketball team for defeating Charlotte 79-36 on Tuesday night! The team was led by Hunter Price with 19 points and also got strong performances from Gerardo Salgado and Mikel Corpening with 14 and 12 points, respectively. The Junior Varsity boys’ team also won their last game by
beating Sabinal at Sabinal last Friday 48-30. The team was led by Sherman Paul with 15 points. Nicholas White helped the cause with 12 points and Chad McKnight scored 11 points. Good Job Eagles!
The Lackland Chess team participated in a tournament this past Saturday at the Guadalupe Community Center. There were well over 100 competitors. Isabelle, Connor and Cristian MacDonald performed very well. Haley Taff,
Andrew Mayo, James Terry and Damien Brown also had a very good outing against some of the best young players in the city. Way to go!

The Lady Eagle Basketball Team played a great game as they defeated Charlotte! Jennifer Zimmerman and Haley Dariggo led the way supported by a terrific effort
from their team mates. The girls JV team lost a heartbreaker in overtime. Super job from both teams!!
Have you ever seen an elementary student reading his/her “green dot” or “red dot” book? These two types of books are from the Success For All (SFA) Lending Library located in the Lackland ISD Media Center to support the Elementary’s comprehensive reading program for all grade levels. The Lending Library consists of over 2,000 paperback books, purchased through the SFA budget, and sorted by Grade Level, with “colored” dots in the top right-hand corner of the front cover indicating the grade. For example, a “green dot” book is 2nd grade level and a “red dot” book is fourth grade level, etc. All titles are recommendations from the SFA program, developed at John Hopkins University. Besides the leveling of these books, the Kinder, 1st, and 2nd grade books are extra special. Each of these books has a Story Sharing Sheet with (a) an introduction describing what the story is about; (b) story questions that a parent can ask his/her child before, during, and after reading the story; and (c) a story extender with fun activities that the parent and child can do together. Many students borrow at least one of these readers weekly to supplement the book choices they make from the Media Center’s main collection and read the SFA book during the required 20-minute nightly reading assignment to build fluency. Students may also find the reading level of a book from the main collection by looking up the title in the Media Center’s online catalog. Elementary students really want to know the reading level of the book(s) they are reading so they challenge themselves continually to improve their reading skills.
