Construction Up-Date: Elementary Gym Restroom Renovation For those teachers and students that have been in the Elementary Gym this week you have heard the noise (Jack- hammering) and seen the dust from behind the restroom doors. You might be wondering ‘just what is going on?’ Our contractor has started a construction project to renovate the elementary gym restrooms. The first step is demolition of the existing walls and fixtures to make way for new structure. Next, we will see modern restroom facilities that meet current access guidelines and present a more appropriate environment for our elementary students take shape. Additionally, the large area behind the restrooms is being converted into book storage areas for the elementary school and a work area for our custodians along with an area for the gym staff to store some of their equipment at ground level instead of lifting it onto the stage. Construction! CAUTION: The elementary gym restroom area is off-limits during this construction. We have a dumpster in the back of the gym for disposal of the trash that presents a safety hazard that everyone must stay away from. There is a portable toilet for the construction workers that is also off limits. Your help in keeping our school a safe area is appreciated. We expect to have this project completed before Spring Break. Lackland ISD E-News Teen Talk Series Page 4 of 9 www.lacklandisd.net Jan. 11, 2013 Teen Talk Series – Eating disorders and proper nutrition
presentation Written by Regina Parham, 8th grader
Last week, two doctors came to our school to talk to 7th and 8th graders about eating disorders, positive body image, and proper nutrition.
They taught us what proper nutrition is and what the right amount of carbohydrates, meats, fruits and vegetables can do for our bodies. You should
always get enough nutrition and exercise daily to keep your body healthy.
The doctors were very friendly and encouraged us to ask questions. Some of the stuff they talked about was really interesting. I learned important facts about eating
healthy. I learned that we need to eat 4 times a day: breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner. It is not healthy to skip meals, and watch what you eat.
It is important to eat healthy, exercise daily and not to worry about how you look or what other people say.
