From the Executive DirectorFrom the Executive DirectorFrom the Executive DirectorFrom the Executive Director
I want to again thank all those people who continue
to support the camp. It is gratifying in these
challenging times to receive the assistance we
require to offer children the chance to be part of a
fun, supportive and welcoming community.
We, like many others, have continued to make
adjustments to weather these stormy times. We
have drastically slashed our already lean budget.
We are finding ways to stretch dollars further than
we thought they could be stretched. We are
seeking out new partnerships and actively
recruiting interns and volunteers to help expand our
capacity to serve children. And, rest assured, while
tightening our belts, we have not in any way
sacrificed the quality of our programming.
We continue to push ourselves to improve what we
offer the campers in our care. This summer we
served as a pilot site for Camp2Grow, a national
American Camp Association teen leadership
program with a focus on promoting environmental
stewardship.
We also continue to assess ourselves to see what
we can do to increase the benefits to our campers.
We were one of the pilot sites for the Marion County
Commission on Youth’s Quality Counts program
assessments. Thanks to a grant from Lilly
Endowment we are assessing our youth leadership
program with the intent to strengthen what we
provide in that program area.
Looking to 2010, it is vitally important that we get
the message out to the community about the role
Jameson Camp plays in the lives of so many
children. We know the good work we do, we hear
from the kids and their parents and others, but
more people need to know about us. This is our call
to action. We encourage all our friends and
supporters of Jameson Camp to join us in helping to
spread the word about what the camp has to offer
both as a youth serving agency and a retreat center.
Please encourage your friends and associates to
learn about Jameson Camp as we strive to build a
wider network.

We were fortunate this past year to have Kate Nielsen Kate Nielsen Kate Nielsen Kate Nielsen serving at the camp. Kate helped to organize our successful Spring into Wellness community health fair and was the lead person for planning and implementing fun yet informative health activi-ties during summer camp. Kate also organized the entire Wellness Week of camp, a specialty session based on making health decisions in every day life. During her year of service, Kate spent many of her weekends volunteering at wellness events throughout Indianapolis in service to her community. Kate did a great job and will be missed. We are pleased to announce that Michael Menafee, another Americorp volunteer, will soon be joining us as the new AmeriCorps Wellness Coordinator.
Jameson is a year round youth development center. We are still busy serving children and youth and others long
after the summer ends. Since summer camp we have hosted fourteen school and other youth field trips out for
outdoor education and challenge course programming. Our year round youth leadership program is very active in
the non-summer months.
Adventure Race: Adventure Race: Adventure Race: Adventure Race: Jameson also recently hosted a No Skirts Allowed Adventure Race at the camp that had over 90 women contestants and in-
cluded our climbing wall and high ropes and an orienteering course at the
camp.
Haunted Happening:Haunted Happening:Haunted Happening:Haunted Happening: Teen leaders came back in October for a weekend session that culminated with their organizing and hosting our
Haunted Happening for campers and their families. This was a fun event
that included haunted cabins and trails, games, costume contests and the
appropriately ghastly –looking food. Over 200 camper families attended.

Scout Troop 97; IPL, and about 70 FFA youth. Thank you!

Grant for Outdoor EducationGrant for Outdoor EducationGrant for Outdoor EducationGrant for Outdoor Education We are pleased to announce a grant to Jameson Camp
from the R.B. Annis Family Foundation to support our
outdoor education program. A growing emphasis of the
camp is to utilize our 100 acres of woods and meadows
within the city to introduce children to the wonders of
nature and pleasures of being outdoors.
In 2010, we intend to convert 17 acres of our property
that had been leased to a local farmer back to nature to
be used as an outdoor lab by our campers and local
school children. We have formed a partnership with
Wayne Township schools that would result in thousands
of fourth, fifth and sixth graders helping with the
restoration project and observing its changes over time.
Thank you to the Annis Foundation and others for
helping us to connect kids with nature for another year.
