The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians has announced the results of a special election to fill the seat vacated by the passing of longtime Chairperson Margaret Dalton.

As set forth in the Tribe’s election ordinance, a committee of Tribal members conducted the election at a gathering of the Tribe’s General Council on October 30.

Longtime Tribal Vice Chairman, Irvin

Bo Marks named Jackson Rancheria Tribal Chairperson

Bo Marks

“Bo” Marks was elected to the office of Tribal Chairperson, a position his sister Margaret held, uncontested, for 30 years.

The Tribe also elected Adam Dalton to the office of Tribal Vice Chairman, and Dennis Dalton to a Tribal Council Member at Large seat.

The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians was first recognized by the Federal Government in 1898, and in 2010 will celebrate

their gaming operation’s 25th anniversary.

In 2010 we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the opening of the first Jackson Indian Bingo Hall back in 1985.

As part of that celebration we are searching for players who played here during those first few years when the Bingo Hall was just a small metal building. You could be interviewed for the Arrow or even get to appear in one of our TV commercials with CEO Rich Hoffman.

If you were here and would like to participate in our celebration, please contact:

Carol Cook, Jackson Rancheria Marketing Department, 12222 New York Ranch Road, Jackson, CA 95642, email [email protected], or call 209-223-8139.

We’ve brought back a favorite table game and added many exciting new slot machines to the great variety of games we offer.

Three Way Action is a table game played with a single deck of 52 standard playing cards played on a standard Blackjack table.

In front of each player and the dealer there are three spots marked High Card, Blackjack, and Poker. Each player must make a bet on each of these three spaces.

You may also place a bet on the optional 7-Card Bonus wager. The bets do not have to be equal. It’s simple, fast, and fun.

For slot players we have added a bank of Joker’s Wild multi-level progressives next to the Dalton Town Hall entrance. This is very similar to Fort Knox.

Over near the Main Street food court we have six exciting new Reel ‘em In games. Everyone playing can get into a bonus round where you compete in a fishing contest. The person who gets the most or biggest fish is the first

place winner, but not to worry if you don’t get first place because everyone is a winner in the bonus round.

Also near the food court you will find a new nickel machine called Super Steamin’ Hot and a new penny machine called Bulls Eye.

In addition to the new Jumbo machines we recently added in the lobby area, we now also have a Colossal machine called Hot at the Top. It’s big! It has three sets of reels and can be played as

a dollar, two dollar, or five dollar machine.

And look for a new five dollar machine called Super Ten Times Wild in the High Limit Room.

Amanda from Sacramento has a Mad Hatter hat that’s bringing luck to not only her but to others too.

She says she won a little when she started coming here a few months ago. Then she saw the hat in a store in downtown Sacramento and thought “what the heck.” She bought it and started wearing it in the casino. And she kept winning.

Then her boyfriend asked her not to bring it, and sure enough, on their next trip they both lost. So now she wears it

every time she’s in the casino, and sometimes her boyfriend asks if he can wear it while he’s playing.

“I don’t gamble a lot of money, but I usually leave with a little,” she says.

And the luck of the hat is spreading. Other people come up to her and ask if they can touch it for luck.

“I like to stand out” explains Amanda. “And I like

to make things interesting.” Her Mad Hatter hat is certainly doing that.

Marco from Ripon decided to play just a little bit more on his way out of Jackson Rancheria Casino on October 24.

He and his wife stopped and played for a few minutes on one of his favorite quarter Wheel of Fortune machines, when he hit the MegaJackpot™ for $147,263.61.

He says when it hit, he looked up at the amount and thought it was $10,000. “Too many zeroes,” he explained. “I’m not good with numbers.” But the players around him told him he’d won $147,000!

“I can’t believe it. It was just in the right place at the right time. This is like a

blessing from God. I’m so happy.”It’s a blessing he’s sharing with his

family. Marco is one of ten siblings who just found out their mother has cancer. While most of them are in Northern California, a few are further away, in San Diego, Arizona, and Mexico. Marco plans to use the money to enable his brothers and sisters to come see their mother.

Marco is the latest in a long list of MegaJackpot™ winners at Jackson Rancheria. We have more of them than any other casino in all of California. Will you be next?

Once you have met Lead Slot Attendant Carlota Lucas you don’t forget her. She is just so out-going, optimistic, easy to talk to, and very funny. She is also a great hugger.

“I’ve had other jobs,” she notes, “but this is tops! It’s not even like working. I’m getting paid to have fun.”

She says making guests happy is the best part of her job. “I love the job, the challenges, getting to know people. I love serving them. I’m a people person. It’s like a big family here. Everyone is so open, they say ‘give me a hug” and I love giving hugs.”

“I love working with my fellow attendants and everyone, those in the Cage and Custodians and everyone.”

Carlota particularly likes giving extra attention to new players. “When I hear ‘this is my first time here’ I really want to go the extra mile.”

Born in San Francisco, she was raised in the Bay Area and attended Wilcox High School in Santa Clara.

After high school she worked in computer electronics for a while before getting married and having kids. “I was a stay-at-home mom for a while. I enjoyed that.”

She ended up here thanks to several

friends. One friend grew up in the town of Volcano and kept telling her what a great area this is. Another friend worked at the Casino and told her, “You would really love it here.” And yet another friend talked her into applying.

She joined our staff in January 2002 in a Slots position that was then called Floor Runner and she’s been in the Slots department ever since except for a brief stint as an Executive Host.

When not doing everything she can to make guests feel welcome at Jackson Rancheria, Carlota likes to spend time with her family. Her husband Todd is a Supervisor in the Transportation Department. They have four children and five grand-children.

She was brought to our attention by several guests. John and Karen L. from El Dorado Hills say she is, “friendly, courteous, outgoing, and just down right nice. She also gives the best hugs.”

Carol C. notes, “she is always happy, supports her job and the Casino way beyond expectations, and is always there when one needs her…and what she says she will do she always does.” Another guest adds, “No matter how busy (and she always is) she’ll help you and two other people at the same time.”

Carlota is a key example of the Rancheria Style® guest service you’ve come to expect here.

The philosophy at Tanis Vineyards is that vines that endure harsh conditions produce exceptional wines, much as life’s hardships produce character and strength.

Tanis Vineyards began as an intimidating patch of poison oak, yet through perseverance and hard work it is now a fruitful vineyard.

Early on, winemaker Andrew Tanis lost his wedding ring in the vineyard while hand pressing grapes. The ring was never found. Their label art is a symbolic reminder that although in life there is loss, the important things endure forever: Faith, Hope and Love.

The Vineyards are located at 13120 Willow Creek Road in the small town of Ione, just below Amador County’s renowned Shenandoah Valley.

“We are a very small, premium wine producer with a minimal production,” says Jill Tanis, “which allows Andrew to lovingly tend his vines and wines to ensure optimum quality. To Andrew, winemaking is much more than a science; it is also an art. Come enjoy his wines and his company some weekend. You’re sure to enjoy the conversation as much as the tasting!”

Tanis currently offers Petite Sirah Port, “My Sweet Baby” Late Harvest Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Pinotage, Zinfandel, Primitivo, Dynamite Red, and more.

Andrew is particularly pleased with the recently released 2007 Pinotage, which he describes as “Crimson/purple and velvety smooth on the palate….with a dark, cedary, smoky oak and spicy vanilla nose. It reminds me of the smell of one of Uncle Doc’s really good cigars. Peppery spice carries through to the palate, and lovely sweet berry fruits...cherry, cranberry, hints of blueberry, linger with a silky mouth-feel. This Pinotage has taken a different direction from last year’s vintage. I’d

describe it as sophisticated with a touch of something wild! Can’t wait to try this one with spicy grilled lamb.”

The tasting room is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Stop by and you may also find local art works as well as the Tanis cats and chickens. For more information visit tanisvineyards.com or call 209-274-4807.
