Scope of the workshop

The developments of ceramics-used functional materials have supported technological

innovation in mechanical and electronics industries as well as in medical sciences. The

objective of this workshop is to present and discuss the status and prospect of ceramics

research.

The 4th International Workshop on Advanced Ceramics (IWAC04) will be held in Nagoya,

Japan, on December 10-12, 2010, organized by Nagoya Institute of Technology (NIT). The

previous conference (IWAC03) was held in Limoges, France, under the auspices of the French

Group of Ceramics and of the European Ceramics Society.

The workshop will cover all aspects of characterization, design and processing technologies,

energy- and environment-related ceramics, information and communication technologies and

biomedical applications. The workshop will be organized in invited and contributed oral

presentations and poster sessions. The presentation of recent ceramics research activities

especially by young researchers is strongly encouraged.

computational science.

2. Environmentally Conscious Materials

functional electroceramics, linear and nonlinear dielectrics, electro-optic materials,

magnetic oxide materials, catalysts, refractories, ecomaterials, hydraulic binders, construction

materials, thermal barriers.

3. Bio-Materials

calcium phosphates, composites/hybrids, biocompatibility, scaffolds, drug delivery carriers,

tissue engineering, mimetics,

cell-material interactions, biotechnology.

4. Next-generation Materials

crystal structure, simulation, interfaces catalysis, porous structures, hybrids,

molecular precursor design, powder synthesis, coatings, drying, rapid prototyping.

NIT is accessible from overseas if you go through Central Japan

International Airport, Centrair. Public transportation is available

from the airport to downtown of Nagoya.

NIT is accessible from overseas if you go through Central Japan International Airport, Centrair.

Public transportation is available from the airport to downtown of Nagoya. It is recommended

that you take Meitetsu Line from the airport to Kanayama and then change trains to JR Chuo

Line to the next station Tsurumai. About 7 min walk from the station. In total, you'll get to NIT

within an hour from the airport.

NIT is also very conveniently accessed from other major cities, Tokyo, Kyoto, or Osaka if you

take a bullet train Tokaido Shinkansen. When you arrive at Nagoya Station, change trains to JR

Chuo Line to get to Tsurumai in 6 min. It is only about 7 min walk from Tsurumai Station to NIT.

Instructions for Presenters

Oral Presentations

1. All the speakers may kindly note that the time allotted for their talk includes the time for Q/A.

The timing will be strictly enforced by the session chairpersons.

2. The 30, 20, 15 min-lectures are 25, 15, 10 min. talk plus 5 min. Q/A, respectively

3. An LCD projector and notebook computer for “Power Point” presentations will be available

at the workshop venues.

<Equipment for presentation>

Oral presentation rooms will be equipped with the following items:

-1 laptop PC (Windows XP, Microsoft Power Point, Adobe Acrobat)

-1 LCD video projector

-1 screen

-1 laser pointer (You are encouraged to bring your own.)

Prepared projectors have a D-sub 15pins connector as a video interface. If you are a

Macintosh user, please bring a necessary adaptor.

During the presentation, please be sure that your PC is connected to a power source to avoid

battery accidents.

Electric currency is uniformly 100 volts AC throughout Japan. Electric outlet sockets accept a

two-leg plug.

We appreciate your kind cooperation in running the program smoothly.

Poster Presentations

Poster session will be held from 13:20 to14:50, 11th December 2010.

A0 format (841 mm wide, 1189 mm high) is the maximum size for the presentation board.

Paper ID will be indicated in the Program Book and on the board on-site.

Poster Presentation Location: Gymnasium at Nagoya Institute of Technology

The poster set up time and removal time are as follows:

- Setting Up time : 13:00-13:20, Dec 11
