IVAN PARKER Week of Prayer for International Missions/ Lottie …storage.cloversites.com/wrightsborobaptistchurch... · 2014. 10. 31. · and trust Him as He leads you to serve Him

A couple of days ago I was preparing for the “Last Resort” that meets on Sunday Nights, and several verses I
read about Jesus kept echoing in my mind: “He sacrificed for their sins once for all when He offered
Himself’ (Hebrews 7:27);…“because by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made ho-
ly” (Hebrews 10:14); “When He had received the drink, Jesus said, ‘It is finished.’ With that, He bowed His head
and gave up His spirit” (John 19:30). As these verses kept rattling around in my mind, I had a thought that was at
the same time so basic and so amazing that I felt completely overwhelmed - there is nothing left to do.
I like the sound of that - there is nothing left to do. Like so many of you, my life is a maze of tasks and
deadlines. Sermons and Bible Studies to prepare and meetings to attend. Projects, papers, and assignments for
seminary to turn in. There is grass to be mowed, people to visit, and necessities to pick up at Wal-Mart. At the
end of the day I am exhausted, and yet I fall asleep thinking of things that I didn't accomplish and still need to do
tomorrow. And this is “life” for most of us as we move through our daily schedules week after week.
There is nothing left to do. Hanging on the cross, Jesus did all that needed to be done. He finished the work of
salvation once and for all. Through faith in Jesus we are healed, we are complete, and we are made whole. There
is nothing left to do. Such an idea counters our American culture of accomplishment. Who are we without tasks
to keep us occupied? What are we if we are not meeting deadlines or checking items off our “to do” list? Many
Christians are tireless in their efforts for God, motivated by a desire to earn His love and favor. But it is finished -
there is nothing left to do. There is no sacrifice for us to bring and our efforts are not the issue. We are whole and
complete in Christ, but are we willing or able to rest in His love? “Come to me, all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
There is nothing left to do. Resting in Christ is not a license to ignore the needs of others, grow lazy, and
disregard the Holy Spirit’s leadership in your life. It’s an invitation from a loving God to seek His kingdom first
and trust Him as He leads you to serve Him daily. It’s an invitation to join Him in kingdom work motivated by
our love for Him because we desire nothing more than to be in His presence. But we understand there is nothing
left to do - we do not need to earn His love and favor because we already have it and experience it through our
faith in Jesus.
This Thanksgiving I will express my gratitude and thankfulness for the many acts of love and provision God
has blessed me with in my life. But for the moment, the one that keeps rattling around in my mind is that there is
nothing left to do - it is finished. Through Jesus I am complete, made whole,
and I do not have to do anything to earn God’s love and favor because I already have it.
All I can do is choose to rest in Him. There is nothing left to do and I am
truly thankful.
For His Glory,
Pastor Brad

I love this time of year...beautiful colors and cool, crisp mornings! We begin to turn our attention to Thanksgiving…family get-togethers and delicious food! It’s so easy to get
caught up in the daily “to do” list rather than praising and giving thanks to God. In this Psalm and many others we
are told to give thanks to God...to praise His name for who He is and for what He has done; to praise Him in good times and trying times. This Thanksgiving let’s praise
God “in the morning and every night”.

REVIVAL OF LOVE
One of the first events that
filled our new Church
Sanctuary back in the late
1980’s was a Youth sponsored
Love Crusade led by Jaime
Mayorga, a Youth Evangelist from
Texas. Each night after the close of the services
the altars were filled with those accepting Christ
or rededicating their lives to the Lord, my
children being two of them.
In John 13:34, Jesus gives a New
Commandment, “Love one another as I have
loved you. By this shall all men know that you
are my disciples if you love one another.”
LOVE, God’s Love is LIFE CHANGING!
(Take just a moment and think about where you
were when God filled your heart and life with
His awesome LOVE and how receiving God’s
love has impacted your life over the years.)
Vance Haner said, “Revival is the Church
falling in love with Jesus all over again.”
May God revive me and all of us with His
awesome love! What the world needs now is
God’s sweet love!! Who will you share God’s
love with this week? Let’s pray for a Revival
of Love!
Be Blessed!
