Its not as simple as it looks... The Plank
Slide 2
How Plank Impacts your Body
Slide 3
Scientifically Speaking Similar to a beam bridge, the supports
are at your feet and your arms. However, your stomach is like the
bridge span. It is constantly affected by gravity and sags.
However, when you try to hold your body straight, your core resists
against the dead load of your body weight and your abs are tensed
to try to keep you up longer, exercising them very well. Your back
is compressed if your core is tensed, again like a beam bridge,
exercising your back muscles.
Slide 4
A Comparison This guy probably does not do plank in his spare
time This guy does plank for a living IM ABTASTIC!
Slide 5
Our Theorem Like a beam bridge, the farther away the supports
are, the weaker the span. Therefore, the taller you are, the harder
it is to do the plank. Your arm and legs are the only things
supporting your body, and the taller you are, the farther apart
they are and it is therefore harder to hold plank position.
Slide 6
Our Theorem Cont. This graph shows that the shorter people held
plank longer.
Slide 7
In all Grades Whichever gender was taller held the plank for
less time (e.g. Abhiram v.s. Blythe : Blythe held her second run
longer than Josh.)
