FASHION IS ALWAYS BEING RECYCLED. THE RUNWAY IS CONSTANTLY FULL OF NEWLY INTERPRETED LOOKS FROM THE PAST. THE PAST TWO YEARS HAVE BEEN NO EXCEPTION. MUCH OF WHAT WAS SEEN ON THE RUNWAY FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2011 AND 2012, HAD INFLUENCE FROM THE 1970’S. THERE WERE MANY LONG FREE-FLOWING DRESSES, SOME WITH PAISLEY PRINTS, AND MOST WITH EARTHY CRUNCHY NATURAL INSPIRED COLORS. NATURALISM AND BACK TO BASICS WERE SEEN DIRECTLY THROUGH, SHEER LONG DRESSES REMINISCENT OF THE “FLOWER CHILD” MOVEMENT IN THE 1970’S. THE OTHER HALF OF WHAT WAS SEEN ON THE RUNWAY TOOK INFLUENCE FROM THE 1950’S, WHICH WAS ALL ABOUT STRUCTURE AND THE HOURGLASS WOMANLY FORM. THERE WERE LOTS OF TINY WAISTS WITH ACCENTUATEDv HIPS. IT SEEMS ONLY NATURAL THAT SPRING/SUMMER 2013, WE WILL MEET IN THE MIDDLE TO CAPTURE THE FASHION OF THE 1960’S IN NEW AND REMODELED WAY.

TREND: The Polished Presidential trend resorts back to the prim and proper lady like silhouettes of the 1960’s. It is an effortless and timeless look that enhances the female figure. Full skirts and chic suits make for an extravagant entrance in any room.
DRIVERS: The U.S. presidential election of 2012 will shed a lot of light on the new First Lady. This will be the main driver of this trend. With all of the American pride that will echo across the country during the election period, women want to imitate that high class presidential look of the First Lady.
MANIFESTATIONS: Consumers are interested in a more feminine shape as more and more hourglass shapes are being shown on the runway. Many American consumers are not “Twiggy thin” anymore. DRIVERS: The recent shutdown of the NASA shuttle program will drive this nostalgic trend into popularity. Interest in technological advancements and space alternatives continues to be important in the current and upcoming world.
