This nineteenth century Victorian mansion is set against the stunningbeauty of Killarney National Park. The house stands close to the shoresof Muckross Lake, one of Killarney's three lakes, famed world wide fortheir splendour and beauty. The Dingle Peninsula or Corca Dhuibhne stretches 30 miles (48kilometres) into the Atlantic Ocean from Ireland's south-west coast. Thepeninsula is dominated by the range of mountains that form its spine,running from the Slieve Mish range to Mount Brandon, Ireland's secondhighest peak. The coastline consists of steep sea-cliffs, broken bysandy beaches, with two large sand spits at Inch in the south and theMaharees to the north. The Blasket Islands lie to the west of thepeninsula.

AttractionEntrance to Cliffs of MoherThe Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland's top Visitor attractions and are adesignated UNESCO Geo Park. The Cliffs are 214m high at the highestpoint and range for 8 kilometres over the Atlantic Ocean on the westernseaboard of County Clare. O'Brien's Tower stands proudly on aheadland of the majestic Cliffs. From the Cliffs one can see the AranIslands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins, the Maum TurkMountains in Connemara and Loop Head to the South. The Cliffs ofMoher take their name from a ruined promontory fort “Mothar” whichwas demolished during the Napoleonic wars to make room for a signaltower.

The Cliffs of Moher are home to one of the major colonies of cliffnesting seabirds in Ireland. The area was designated as a SpecialProtection Area (SPA) for Birds under the EU Birds Directive in 1986and as a Refuge for Fauna in 1988. Included within the designated siteare the cliffs, the cliff-top maritime grassland and heath, and a 200metre zone of open water, directly in front of the cliffs to protect part ofthe birds' feeding area.
