Evelyn was born in Park Falls, WI. She grew up with four brothers and one sister. Her favorite childhood memory is that every year her Dad would flood the garden area outside to make a skating rink that her family and the neighborhood would all use and enjoy. Evelyn married her husband Paul on June 30, 1951. Together they had six children; five sons named Bill, Dave, Chemo, Mike and Denny, and one daughter Julie. Evelyn worked a number of jobs throughout her life, including working at the IGA store, working at a bakery decorat-ing cakes, working at a pharmacy, and helping her husband sell and fix TV’s. She was a volunteer for the Lutheran church, a girl scout leader, and a homemaker. She also spent a lot of her time garden-ing, crocheting doilies and cross book marks, and spending time with her family. She has twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grand-children that she loves very much. Evelyn has always loved to act silly, dance, and just enjoy life!

Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself and for calling Park Manor your home for your short stay.

We are so glad to have you with us.

Hi! My name is Karen Haegerl, and I’m an RN. I started working at Park Manor in 1982 as a nurse aide, way before you had to be cer fied. I went to school and became an LPN and then went back to become an RN. The best part of my job is seeing the residents smile, and ge ng smiles from my co-workers. ( I can be pre y persistent with this) I have been married for 38 years and have 3 girls, Mary, Chrissy and Me-gan. I also have 2 grandchildren, Mileiah and Oliver. My outside interests are camping, gardening and swimming. My favorite movie of all me is “Lady and the Tramp” and “Sybil”. I don’t know that I really have a favorite color as it depends on the me of year and my mood. My favorite food would be strawberry cheesecake. I love doing puzzles, but it’s always more fun when to do them with someone. Something you may not know about me, is that I did a back flip off the diving board at the Park Falls Pool and broke the joint of my big toe to the foot. I had a hard cast to my knee. I broke the cast and needed to have a new one put on. Then broke this one too while riding my bike (which I wasn’t supposed to be doing) This me my Dad cut it off with a hand saw.

HOW TO VISIT YOUR LOVED ONE AT PARK MANOR DURING COVID‐19! As our COVID no-visita on policy con nues, per the direc ve of CMS and the Wisconsin Department of Health Service, we want to remind everyone of other op ons available so you can s ll visit with people living at Park Manor or Rivers Edge.

CALL TO SCHEDULE YOUR PATIO OR VIRTUAL VISIT TODAY! PATIO VISIT: We have a microphone system set up on our Park Manor or Rivers Edge pa os so you can see and speak to your loved one. Please call ahead as we are currently scheduling these visits for a maxi-mum of 30 minutes due to their popularity.

VIRTUAL VISITS: Park Manor has many virtual pla orms available including Zoom, Skype, Facebook Mes‐senger and FaceTime. We have several tablets available to allow any resident to have a nice virtual chat with their family or friends. Call Krista, Wendy or Victor in our ac vi es department and they can set up a virtual visit during the day with your loved one! Of course there is always the good old fashion telephone! Please bear with us outside of normal business office hours as our nursing staff answers the phone then. If the phone is not answered it means everyone is busy taking care of your loved one. Try making your call at a later me. Staff are taking extra care in reassuring residents and relieving any of their concerns or fears related to the COVID-19 virus and separa on for important family and friends. We are doing a variety of ac vi es in small groups and hallways to maintain social distancing but s ll have fun. We are also ge ng much more outside me for residents now that the weather is nice, including gardening, pa o ac vi es, individual van rides, etc. We are planning musical entertainment for the pa o in July, so hope the weather will hold out

In our con nuing effort to keep you up-to-date during the COVID-19 Emergency we have developed a communica on system to no fy you should we have a COVID-19 posi ve test result or respiratory illness in our facility. Recently a direc ve from the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) was released that requires us to in-form residents and their resident representa ve within 12 hours if one of our resi-

dents or staff tests posi ve for COVID-19 or if there is an increase in residents or staff with respira-tory symptoms. Our tradi onal method of pos ng no ces and sending correspondence will not be mely enough to meet this requirement.

Park Manor will be providing this informa on through communica on on our website, www.parkmanorwi.com, Facebook page, Park Manor Ltd, and by email and text. For those of you who would like to receive a no fica on by email and text, you may email us the appropriate address and cell phone number at [email protected]. Please include the name of your cell phone carrier as we need the informa on for our computer system to communicate with your cell phone. You may also contact your social worker at Park Manor with this informa on.

“How Long Before Visits Can Resume In Nursing Homes?”

Is the Million Dollar Question With No Answer Right Now!

Residents, staff and families at Park Manor and elsewhere want to know, “When can we come to visit again?” Anything resembling traditional visitation remains a long way off. Several states have authorized nursing homes to allow outdoor visits, under strict rules for distancing, monitoring and hygiene and generally in accord-ance with the CMS guidelines. The state of Wisconsin has been working on guid-ance to begin the reopening process in Wisconsin for almost a month, but has not published that guidance as of the end of June.

CMS, the federal health agency, is urging nursing homes to continue barring any visitation until they have gone at least 28 days without a new COVID-19 case origi-nating on-site (as opposed to a facility admitting a coronavirus patient from a hospi-tal). There are several other benchmarks to meet, that include community preva-lence, resident and staff testing, adequate PPE supplies and staffing levels. If these benchmarks are met, the reopening process may begin.

For Park Manor, the state of Wisconsin rules will dictate our reopening process. We anticipate most of the federal recommendations for reopening will be included in the state rules. While our region has been very lucky to have a very low inci-dence of COVID-19, the rising death toll across the country and resurgence of COVID in numerous states is an indicator that nursing homes, assisted living facili-ties, and the public as a whole, are still at considerable risk as the virus is not yet under control and there is not a vaccine or medication that will help mitigate the infection. When we do begin the reopening process, visitation will look very different than in the past. It is likely everyone entering our facility will undergo health screening in-cluding temperature and symptom check, review of potential exposure and educa-tion on COVID-19. A visitor will be required to wear a mask, PPE, and perform ap-propriate hand hygiene. Visiting will take place is a designated area that is not the resident’s living area and will be by appointment and for a limited time. Social dis-tancing will also need to be maintained, with six feet between the resident and visi-tor.

Thank you for your patience during this challenging time. Our residents are resili-ent and we are doing everything we can to keep their spirits up and keep them safe! Rest assured as soon as we have guidance from the state of Wisconsin we will move ahead with the reopening of Park Manor.
