In a moment of inspiration, she devises a plan to snag a rich, divorced dad, like the ones she sees all lined up in shiny sports cars one Friday when she picks up her friend Brie’s (Kat Foster) 12-year-old step- daughter Lily (Sara Rodier) from Nixon Middle. It turns out that Nixon’s tough but fair Principal Carl (David Alan Grier) is going through a rough divorce himself. Because he feels sympathetic to Meredith’s situation, he bonds with her immediately, and she’s able to con him into hiring her on the spot as the school’s new Social Studies teacher. In spite of her lack of credentials— and the fact that her “lesson plans” mostly consist of letting her students watch movies while she naps—Meredith finds she has a knack for connecting with these kids. But fitting in with the other adults at Nixon proves tough for Meredith, whose straight talk and sexy outfits rub some of her new colleagues the wrong way, especially the tightly-wound history teacher Ginny Taylor-Clapp (Kristin Davis). Meredith does find an unlikely friend in Irene Dudek (Sara Gilbert), a geeky, socially- challenged science teacher, and some sparks begin to fly between Meredith and her old high school classmate Joel Kotsky (Ryan Hansen), the cute gym coach she swears she’d never consider. Each week, Meredith hatches a different scheme to meet a rich guy, make a quick buck, or flip the system to get what she wants. Unfortunately for her, she is not quite as shallow as she pretends, and her unexpected affection for her students often gets in the way of her escape plan. Meredith may have landed at Nixon with a thud, but this new start has given her a second chance—to evolve, to right some wrongs, and to make the best of a bad situation. Of course, at the end of the day, Meredith Davis is in it to win it, and she knows from experience that the only way to win is to look out for number one. And yet somehow, in spite of herself, she keeps on doing the right thing (even if it is for the wrong reasons). She might be “bad,” but she makes it look so good. It’s Good To Be “Bad”Behind The Scenes Of CBS’s Bad Teacher

When you come through the doors of Stage 3, you enter a world that feels at once eerily familiar, and very far away: the halls of Richard Nixon Middle School.

For many of us who work on CBS’s new mid-season comedy Bad Teacher, the sight of scuffed linoleum floors, the sound of crummy metal lockers clanging, and the sickly glow of our skin under fluorescent classroom lighting can trigger flashbacks to our own middle school years, in all their awkward, painful glory. And over in Building 1, fourteen writers—a few of whom have been teachers themselves—swap hilarious, often humiliating war stories that will all serve as fodder for future episodes.

Of course, had we gone to Nixon, and had Meredith Davis been our teacher, middle school would probably have been a whole lot more fun.

Developed for television by showrunner and Executive Producer Hilary Winston (whose previous writing credits include Happy Endings, Community, and My Name is Earl), this Bad Teacher is inspired by the hit 2011 feature film of the same name by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. But unlike the titular educator of the movie, our Meredith Davis (Ari Graynor) is in it

for way more than a boob job. When her rich husband leaves her for a younger woman, Meredith is devastated—and totally broke, thanks to an iron-clad prenup.

Meredith needs to get her old life back, and fast. In a moment of inspiration, she devises a plan to snag a rich, divorced dad, like the ones she sees all lined up in shiny sports cars one Friday when she picks up her friend Brie’s (Kat Foster) 12-year-old step-daughter Lily (Sara Rodier) from Nixon Middle.

In spite of her lack of credentials—and the fact that her “lesson plans” mostly consist of letting her students watch movies while she naps—Meredith finds she has a knack for connecting with these kids. But fitting in with the other adults at Nixon proves tough for Meredith, whose straight talk and sexy outfits rub some of her new colleagues the wrong way, especially the tightly-wound history teacher Ginny Taylor-Clapp (Kristin Davis). Meredith does find an unlikely friend in Irene

Dudek (Sara Gilbert), a geeky, socially-challenged science teacher, and some sparks begin to fly between Meredith and her old high school classmate Joel Kotsky (Ryan Hansen), the cute gym coach she swears she’d never consider.

So keep an eye out for Bad Teacher, coming to CBS in 2014!

Project: Hollywood Cares kicked off the Holiday Season with a support event for our returning troops here on the CBS lot. The centerpiece of the day again was the Entertainment Tonight Thanksgiving Pot Luck dinner and show party.

Fifty-two active duty servicemen and women with spouses from southern California were Entertainment Tonight’s guests of honor.

The Thanksgiving night airing also marked the start of Project: Hollywood

Cares’ holiday support program of sending telephone calling cards to connect deployed troops far from home with their family and friends.

In addition to the ET party, our military guests also enjoyed a set visit and meet and greet with Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood of The Talk; show tours of ABC’s Last Man Standing with Tim Allen and ABC Family’s Baby Daddy; and a reception which provided entertainment gift baskets at the Project: Hollywood Cares headquarters.

And how about that Sheryl Underwood of The Talk, not only giving a great tour of her set but when asked about her Bentley convertible parked outside, she replied, “follow me for pictures in the car and a drive around the lot!”

Please consider donating or volunteering to help our large list of deployed men and women in uniform.
