The "MEGASTAR-II B Itami" super planetarium system installed here projects around 5 million stars, with shows being accompanied by live commentary on the night sky. As well as the regular shows, there are also shows aimed at pre-school age children, and special "Twilight Shows" featuring musical accompa- niment. “Koyaike Park”is very well known as a rare habitat for wild birds in the Kansai region. “Itami City Museum of Insects” is located in Koyaike Park, and butterflies can be seen year-round in the domed glass butterfly house. There is also an exhibition of living insect samples and large scale models of the world of common insects. Surely one of the most attractive museums of insects in the country. A southern European style rose park where 10,000 roses come to bloom from May to June and October to November. There are 250 kinds of roses from around the world, including the “Amatsuo- tome” and “Madam Violet” varieties, which were developed in Itami. There is also an exhibition on the history of the Kamitsu area, and an air traffic control radar on display. The flower of Itami City is the azalea. Four different kinds of azaleas were planted on this 2,500㎡ slope, making for a magnificent sight when the 14,000 flowers bloom every year. The “Itami Sign” is 5.4m long and 20.1m wide. This vivid design was inspired by the shape of the roofs of the sake breweries and traditional town houses of old Itami, and is a symbol of our city’ s tradition and history as the birthplace of seishu (clear sake). The parking area called the “Hilltop Car Park” is located on a hillside and is the best spot if you want to see the runway of Itami Airport from inside your car. The “Wing Deck” is about 61m wide and the scenic overlook is the same size as the main wings of a Boeing 777 airliner. There is also playground equipment for young children under the deck. This area is the entrance of the “South Car Park” and the “Hilltop Car Park” . “Sky Land HARADA” is located south of the South Entrance and has spacious ground and a grass space on its roof. You can enjoy different views of the airport from this site. The “Sky Terrace” is a three-story observation deck in the center of the park and has good views of planes taking off and landing. You can check flight schedules in real-time on the big screen on the third floor. The irrigation facility (Iwaya-Iseki) was discovered here and now a replica demonstrating the discovery is on display. This sloping road is named “Star- light Path” and is quite spectacular at night-time. Eight astrological signs made from LED lights are hidden along the 130m road. The“Dandan-Ter- race” consists of 12 big stone steps covered with grass. Here you can have a picnic while enjoying a good view of passing airplanes. In addition there is a forest called “Kyoudo-no-Mori” with trees representing the regions that airplanes from Itami Airport fly to. In this large grassy slope area, different aged children can play together. Cube Adventure is an enormous three-dimensional net maze. There is also other playground equipment such as a roller slide, a jungle gym, and a sandbox. “Itami Sky Park” was consolidated as a green space around Osaka International Airport for the purposes of aircraft noise mitigation and improvement of the local living environment by the Japanese government, Hyogo Prefecture and Itami City throughout the period 1993 to 2008.
