WLL 252 - Italian Cinema: from Fiction to FIlm
This course is an examination of the literary and sociopolitical trends of Italian culture as portrayed by the media of literature and film. The course will focus on the literary works of Boccaccio, Machiavelli, Moravia, De Filippo, Bassani, and the cinematographic adaptations of those works by such directors as Pasolini, Lattuada, Visconti, and De Sica. The course also specifically examines the role in Italian cinema of such director-authors as Fellini and Wertmuller and the importance of Italian cinematic Neorealism in the films of Rossellini, De Sica, and Visconti.
Festa italiana
Tavola italiana e tiramisù During the semester there are plenty
of opportunities to speak Italian and explore more the Italian culture with our fun events.
The “Tavola Italiana” is an informal meeting in which we chat in Italian, drink espresso and taste delicious Italian treats.
The “Festa Italiana” is our annual celebration of the Italian culture, with music, great food and fun trivia.
And then we make (and eat) tiramisu!!!

Devany Yolanda Baez ’14
“I remembered everything about Torre di Pisa thanks to Professor Faustini”
1
Devany was a Self Determined Major In Italian.
During her semester abroad in Florence she was awarded the “Messa and DiLorenzo opportunity fund” and was able to travel to Rome, Naples and Sicily for her senior thesis.
She wrote: “I went to Naples and I loved the city, it was one of the best experiences I had during my stay in Italy. This pic [see above] was taken at 'Underground Naples'. I had a native from Naples as a tour guide and I understood everything. There is a lot of history to underground Naples but what I found most interesting was to learn it was used again as a refuge for families during WW2 and that Neapolitans had liberated themselves (I think he said 4 days before) the arrival of Americans. Grazie a Professoressa Garbin per aver insegnato questa parte della storia italiana perché mi ha aiutato moltissimo!”
