DISCUSSION BOARD CRITERIA CONTINUED

Discussion Grading Criteria to earn an A Responses are on topic, original, and contribute

to the quality of the discussion. Responses make frequent, informed references

to unit material. Responses are clearly written. Substantial original answers to the questions

that furthers the work of the class. GUIDE:

Initial response: 100 words minimum Response to others (2): 50 words minimum

WHAT IS THE COURSE POLICY FOR LATE ASSIGNMENTS?

If a student does not make prior arrangements with the instructor and fails to turn individual work in on time, the following penalties may be applied:

Work that is submitted 1 - 2 calendar days AFTER its due date may be graded down a maximum of 5%.

Work that is submitted 3 - 6 calendar days AFTER its due date may be graded down a maximum of 10%.

Work that is submitted 7 – 14 days AFTER its due date may be graded down a maximum of 20%.

Work more than 14 days late may be submitted ONLY with the approval of the Instructor.  Instructors are not required to accept work which is more than two weeks late.

Final course projects and end-of-term papers must be turned in no later than the due date UNLESS an "Incomplete" grade has been arranged.

WHAT ARE THE DISCUSSION BOARD POLICIES?

A minimum of three posts per discussion question; one initial response (100 words min) and two replies to your classmates (50 words min).

Posting on a minimum of three different days, for example: Wednesday, Friday and Monday

The first post must be made by Saturday, and of course, sooner is better.

WHAT IS THE COURSE POLICY FOR POSTING TO THE DISCUSSION BOARD

LATE?

Discussion Boards are designed for maximum student participation and engagement. It is critical to the success of all courses that students contribute to the Discussion Boards in a timely manner.

Therefore, no late postings to Discussion Boards will be accepted without prior arrangement with the instructor.

HOW DO YOU SUBMIT ASSIGNMENTS?

1. Go to the Dropbox. 2. Click the link that says 'Submit an

Assignment'. 3. In the 'Submit to Basket' menu, select the

unit corresponding to your project. 4. In the optional 'Comments' field, type any

additional information you wish your instructor to see.

5. Click the button that says 'Add Attachments'. Follow the steps listed to complete attaching your file.

6. You will be able to come back to the Dropbox and view your graded work

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU MISS A SEMINAR?

Option 1: Attend weekly seminar at the regularly-scheduled time   

Option 2: Complete the flexible assignment Quiz.

If you do both activities, your instructor will give you the higher of the two grades for the Flexible Learning Activity.

WHERE DO YOU FIND THE FLEXIBLE LEARNING ACTIVITY (FLA)/QUIZ?

Under the Unit Heading, go to Quiz.

Note: Unit 1 Seminar is NOT graded. There is no FLA/Quiz for Unit 1.

DO YOU HAVE TO COMPLETE THE QUIZ?

No. You may complete the quiz instead of the seminar OR you may complete the quiz AND the seminar and I will take the higher of the two grades.

For example, you take the quiz for unit 6 and earn 10/15 points. You then attend the seminar and earn 15/15 points. In the grade book, I record your Seminar/FLA Grade for Unit 6 as 15/15 points.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET SICK AND CANNOT ATTEND CLASS/COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS?

If you are unable to complete assignments, attend seminars, or participate in class due to illness, injury, personal matters (life happens!), please let me know via email as soon as you are able. You can also contact your Academic Advisor (via phone, email, etc) who will pass the message along to ALL of your instructors on your behalf.

DO I NEED THE TEXTBOOK FOR THIS CLASS?

Yes. I highly recommend that you use the textbook for the class. There are no textbook based assignments (such as complete the Case Review on Page PPT65, etc), but there is a lot of information that will help you to better understand the concepts.

WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED YOUR TEXTBOOK?

The first three chapters are available under Doc Sharing. This will get you through the end of Unit 3.

Contact your academic advisor if you have not yet received your book by the start of Week 2.

I AM USING WINDOWS XP INSTEAD OF VISTA. IS THAT A PROBLEM?

No. Not at all. Once we get into the actual programs of MS Office 2007, your operating system will not matter.

WHERE DO I FIND THE INFORMATION FOR THE FIRST ASSIGNMENT IN UNIT 1?

Unit 1 requires you to think outside of the box, or in this case, the book.

You might want to start by going to the Microsoft website (http://www.microsoft.com), then clicking on Office. Research through the sight to find the information required for your first assignment. Remember the SEARCH box is a big help! (Hint: Try searching for System Requirements.)

  Once you have Microsoft Office 2007 successfully installed, you will open Microsoft Word

2007 and create a MS Word 2007 document (.docx).   In the document, type: “Installation Complete” and include your first and last name. Also include a discussion of the system requirements for MS Office 2007. This should include the following topics:

•        The difference between the various versions of MS Office 2007 (ie Professional versus Standard)

•        RAM requirements

•        Computer Processor Speed requirements

•        Computer Hard Drive space requirements

•        A brief description of the various applications associated with MS Office 2007

UNIT 2: BRIEF INTRODUCTION

For Unit 2 Assignment using one any web browser, perform a search at www.monster.com, www.careerbuilder.com or similar job posting website for a job related to your course of study at Kaplan University.   Be sure to find any salary information related to the position.

Copy and Paste information in a Word Document

Submit a Word document that includes: the web address of the job you found, the job description, and salary information.

Discuss the experience you had during your Internet search; what key term did you use, how did you refine your search to narrow the results, did you search in a specific state or nation-wide, etc…
