Learning and CreativityTeachers use their knowledge of subject
matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate
experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and
innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
Teachers:promote, support, and model creative and innovative
thinking and inventiveness. engage students in exploring real-world
issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and
resources. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to
reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking,
planning, and creative processes. model collaborative knowledge
construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and
others in face-to-face and virtual environments.Examples: Students
creating a newsletter for a city they choose. They would have
creative freedom in the design and decide what information they
want to include.Back to teacher standardsBack to main menuDesign
and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and
AssessmentsTeachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic
learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary
tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to
develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the
NETSS. Teachers:design or adapt relevant learning experiences that
incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning
and creativity.develop technology-enriched learning environments
that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and
become active participants in setting their own educational goals,
managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.
customize and personalize learning activities to address students'
diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using
digital tools and resources. provide students with multiple and
varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and
technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and
teaching.
Examples: Students explain what they learned about a city and
persuade others to visit it by using a digital tool called a
podcast. Here they are presenting in a creative way what they
learned using digital format.Back to teacher standardsBack to main
menuModel Digital-Age Work and LearningTeachers exhibit knowledge,
skills, and work processes representative of an innovative
professional in a global and digital society. Teachers:demonstrate
fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge
to new technologies and situations. collaborate with students,
peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and
resources to support student success and innovation.communicate
relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents,
and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats. model
and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools
to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to
support research and learning.
Examples:See the example of my home newsletter on my wiki Back

Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and ResponsibilityTeachers
understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in
an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior
in their professional practices. Teachers:advocate, model, and
teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and
technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property,
and the appropriate documentation of sources.address the diverse
needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies
providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and
resources. promote and model digital etiquette and responsible
social interactions related to the use of technology and
information.develop and model cultural understanding and global
awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other
cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration
tools.
Examples: While creating my wiki I followed all of the
suggestions of section a. I would be able to show my wiki to my
students as an example of digital citizenship and
responsibilityBack to teacher standardsBack to main menuEngage in
Professional Growth and LeadershipTeachers continuously improve
their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit
leadership in their school and professional community by promoting
and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources.
Teachers:participate in local and global learning communities to
explore creative applications of technology to improve student
learning.exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology
infusion, participating in shared decision making and community
building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of
others.evaluate and reflect on current research and professional
practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and
emerging digital tools and resources in support of student
learning.contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and
self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and
community.
Examples: Continuing to add to my wiki and own knowledge of
technology is how I plan on growing as a professional. Attending
conferences, workshops, communicating with colleagues, and keeping
abreast with my students knowledge of digital tools is how I plan
on demonstrating my professional commitment in the future. Back to
teacher standardsBack to main menuTechnology Operations and
ConceptsStudents demonstrate a sound understanding of technology
concepts, systems, and operations. Students: understand and use
technology systems. select and use applications effectively and
productively. troubleshoot systems and applications. transfer
current knowledge to learning of new technologies.Examples:
Students will have the opportunity to take information they have
learned about a city and insert it into various technology systems,
such as the newsletter, brochure, or podcast. Please see my wiki
for specific information about each.Back to student standardsBack
to main menuCreativity and InnovationStudents demonstrate creative
thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and
processes using technology. Students:apply existing knowledge to
generate new ideas, products, or processes. create original works
as a means of personal or group expression. use models and
simulations to explore complex systems and issues. identify trends
and forecast possibilities.Examples: Students will be given the
opportunity to use simulations to explore the cities they choose.
Since students wont physically be traveling, web 2.0 tools such as
Google earth and maps will be useful for students learning.Back to

4. Teachers know how to teach. The teacher understands and uses a
variety of instructional strategies, including the use of
technology, to encourage children's development of critical
thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.5. Teachers know
how to manage a classroom. The teacher uses an understanding of
individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning
environment that encourages positive social interaction, active
engagement in learning, and self-motivation.6. Teachers communicate
well. The teacher uses effective verbal and nonverbal communication
techniques as well as instructional media and technology to foster
active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the
classroom.Examples: By incorporating the ISTE Student standards I
am including technology into my lessons. Teaching my students about
digital citizenship shows that I encourage a safe and positive
learning environment. I will give my students a combination of
direct instruction (verbal) and individual exploration such as
learning objects (nonverbal) all using technolgy.10 WI Teacher
Standards (7-10)7. Teachers are able to plan different kinds of
lessons. The teacher organizes and plans systematic instruction
based upon knowledge of subject matter, pupils, the community, and
curriculum goals.
8. Teachers know how to test for student progress. The teacher
understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to
evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and
physical development of the pupil.
9. Teachers are able to evaluate themselves. The teacher is a
reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of
his or her choices and actions on pupils, parents, professionals in
the learning community and others and who actively seeks out
opportunities to grow professionally.
10. Teachers are connected with other teachers and the
community. The teacher fosters relationships with school
colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to
support pupil learning and well-being and acts with integrity,
fairness and in an ethical manner.Examples: The unit lesson on
planning a trip may seem irrelevant however it covers more than one
subject matter, would be interesting to my students and teach them
about other communities besides their own. My lesson includes both
formal and informal assessments. Students are given creative
freedom to show me what they learned in the digital storytelling
final assessment. Exploring new digital tools to use in my lessons
will allow me to grow professionally. By taking this class I am
showing that I am open to learning to ways to incorporate
technology into my instruction. My home newsletter and wiki will
allow me to communicate with students and parents in a professional
manner. Thanks for viewing my portfolio. I hope you have found me
ready to teach with technology.
