APA technology: overview (1/3)

▪  APA is an innovative system for the abatement of ambient air pollutants at ground level

▪ know–how and several patents

▪  APA traps and removes particulate matter, heavy metals, PAH (Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ), pollen, spores, light hydrocarbons, NOx , SOx and CO2 in every indoor and outdoor area

▪  Flow: ≥ 1000 / 1.350 – 3.000 m3/h.

▪  Consumption: 400 - 550 W

▪  Activity: H 24, or based on need

▪  Noise: 38 – 40 / 50 – 55 dBA/1m

▪  Input: water and saline solution

▪  Output: liquid like rainwater, easy to dispose of (APA system generates no waste)

APA generates a bubble of

30 m in radius

ambient air from pollution

▪  APA is a smart multifunction platform

-  Equipped with sensors enabling in situ and/or remotely monitoring and control in real time (cloud – based) and integration with possible business systems

- and the requirements necessary, allowing any possible corrective interventions

-  That can be turned off as the air quality improves, thus generating an additional cost reduction

▪ integrated with solutions of energy and supply from renewable resources

▪  Can be integrated in different ways (the current limit of structure is about 0,5 m3

▪  Devices for urban settings, equipped with sensors revealing the concentration

advertising/informative panels or multimedia touchscreen monitors

▪  Special devices for waste-to-energy plants, incineration plants and biomass plants, with abatement of pollutant emissions under the limits prescribed by law against investment and management costs particularly competitive compared to other technologies currently used

APA technology: competitive advantages as compared to the existing products on the market

▪ act at ground level and mainly work by absorption (using activated carbons) or by accumulation

▪  APA uses simply water and, if necessary, small amounts of chemical saline-based «additives», inert and cheap

The cost of APA consumable materials is about

-  10% compared to the systems based on activated carbons

-

▪  Has much lower overall running costs than the “competitor” products (reduced TCO) and, in particular:

-  Energy consumption times less than the average

-  Reduced frequency of maintenance and limited physical interventions

▪ ▪  Can work simultaneously with other solutions (alongside), in an integrated way, in order to increase the

§  Particulate matter (PM) is the air pollutant which has the most severe impact on human health

§  In a new estimation released at march 2014, World Health Organization reports that in 2012 around 7* million people died - one in eight of total global deaths – as a result of air pollution exposure

HUMAN HEALTH: air pollution is a huge problem all over the world

3.7 milliondeath

4.3 milliondeath

1600 citiesworldwide

*attributable to ambient air pollution

*attributable to household air pollution

reported high air pollution levels

Air pollution is a major problem for our health and the

environment – It kills half a million Europeans every year

Page 17: ISTECH & APA _ ABSTRACT_Eng _As at Sept 10, 2016

17

The air we breathe is strongly polluted:the quality of life is limited and real costs are unsustainable

(Source: 2015 World Health Organization – 2010)

US$ 1.6 trillions (Europe):

economic cost of the approximate 600 000 premature deaths, diseases and losses of productivity caused by air pollution

US$ 97 billions (Italy):

The impacts are approximately the annual 4.7% of GDP

The market: the overall dimensions and the structure of the offer

▪  The penetration of products and solutions in the market, currently based on technologies very far from the so-called BAT (Best

Available Technologies), is relatively low and estimated to be about 5%

▪  The structure of the offer is characterised small operators, about 300 in Europe, with a market share of less than 2%

▪  is currently ruled by solutions with HEPA

(€/mld) – OECD’s estimations

750

Public sector Private sector

§  About 2 million manufacturing enterprises are estimated in Europe alone, about 1 million of which have

highly polluting characteristics (ISTECH’s projections on Eurostat data).

▪  The potential market in Italy is estimated to be about 40.000 APA units

▪ with reference only

prevailing technology in the sector) for a total amount of about 20 billion US$, in 2020Outdoor applications of APA technology
