SLOs allow students with similar academic or lifestyle choices to live together and to build a sense of community at PSU. Where is the SLO for the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST)? The IST SLO is located at the University Park campus on the 2nd floor of Thompson Hall which is in the West Halls Residence Area (conveniently located right down the street from the IST Building). West Halls is home to the largest dorms on campus. They offer spacious doubles and singles with all movable furniture allowing students to personalize their room configuration in a way that works best for them. What is a Special Living Option?

A Special Living Option (SLO) is a housing option that first-year students can opt-in to living for their first year at Penn State. Special Living Options open up a wealth of possibilities. SLOs allow students with similar academic or lifestyle choices to live together and to build a sense of community at PSU.

Where is the SLO for the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST)?

The IST SLO is located at the University Park campus on the 2nd floor of Thompson Hall which is in the West Halls Residence Area (conveniently located right down the street from the IST Building). West Halls is home to the largest dorms on campus. Unique SLO Events

In order to choose your room and stay on the fl oor you have to earn points through “point events.”

Any event the fl oor holds is a point event; these can be social, academic, community service, etc.

Past point events include:

Video game tournamentsThrow down with other gamers on the fl oor.

Advising / Major nightsMeet with your academic advisor to make sure you are headed in the right direction.

Super Bowl / Stanley Cup partiesShow your team pride while socializing with other students who live in West Halls.

Career Fairs Attend IST specifi c career fairs, like IST Future Forum and Pro Expo.

Joint events with other IST clubsJoin one of the numerous IST clubs and learn a new skill.

Movie nightsWatch a movie and meet fellow IST students who live on the fl oor.

Benefi ts of Living in the SLO

—Guaranteed housing if you participate in SLO events.You can even pick the room you want for following years on the fl oor.

—Located close to the IST Building.

—Be surrounded by your peers who have taken the same classes you will be taking. They can offer invaluable advice and help with assignments and studying.

—Meet people and make friends before the fi rst day of classes (teams are a huge part of IST so it helps to know people in your class).

—Get involved with the clubs in IST. The clubs come one night and talk solely to the SLO to provide one-on-one access to club leaders.

—Have fun with fellow classmates, academically and socially who you will be seeing for the next four years.

—West Halls has the largest dorm rooms and is located near a majority of the general education classroom buildings.
