Issue No.7: March 2017
From the Principal Last week, our students performed
magnificently at the SPSSA Athletics Carnival, coming in second
place overall. Unfortunately, due to a mix up on the day, the
students were told that they had come sixth. They handled this well
but were obviously very excited on Monday to learn the true result.
A new banner is being made and sent to the school and we hope to
include this in our next School Assembly on the 4th of April. A big
thank you to all involved for making this day a success and
particularly to Jake Woodberry for organising the team and
following up on the results. The Champions Carnival will be held on
April 5th, students participating will be announced soon. Back at
school, our peer mediators completed training this week. All our
Year 6 students were keen to be involved. Each lunch time and
recess, two of the mediators are out, with hi-vis vests on,
supporting other students to put our school values into practice in
the playground.

Last week, I attended two days of compulsory professional
learning on My Education. My Education is a DoE initiative to
develop whole school approaches to career and life planning. It is
aimed at preparing 21st century learners for participation in the
world of work that is rapidly changing. It is already in place for
High Schools, while all Primary Schools are trialling and
implementing it over the next two years.
Recently, there have been several cases of head lice reported at
the school. If a case of head lice is discovered in your child’s
class, a notice will be sent home that includes information about
treatment. There is also a link to this same information elsewhere
in this newsletter. Last night was the AGM and first School
Association meeting for the year. I would like to thank last year’s
office bearers for all their work as well as to thank those who
have taken up a position on the committee this year. During our
meeting, the issue of Working With Vulnerable People checks was
raised, so I would like to take the opportunity to remind parents
that schools are now required to ensure that all volunteers have
Working With Vulnerable People registration. To find out more, and
apply for registration, go to:

SPSSA Athletics Div E Last Thursday our school athletics team
competed in the SPPSA Div E Athletics Carnival
at the Domain Athletics Centre. The day was a huge success with
our students once
again demonstrating how competitive we are up against some of
the bigger schools. Many
of our students received ribbons for placing in their respective
events. The team did
plenty of loud cheering supporting our school and our runners.
Well done to all involved.
We also had a great number of parents there to support the team.
So thanks for coming
along.
Our students all ran extremely well and we finished second
overall! Unfortunately the
SPSSA made a mistake when reading the results at the final
ceremony and said we came
6th. Our students felt somewhat deflated and ripped off as they
had done so well.
However to their credit no one made a fuss and everyone thought
"Oh well it's been a
great day". The SPSSA contacted me the next day with a big
apology as they had made a
mistake. We had actually come second and the banner was being
sent in the post.
The day kicked off with the Open 1500m and the rain was
certainly pouring down. The
1500m is a hard enough race without running in rain. Despite
running against the odds
Finn Haley and Hannah Gardner, Sophie Connelly came second and
Walter came fourth.
That's a huge effort in the horrible conditions. However it
certainly set the tone for the
rest of the day. The following students did particularly well in
their events and received
the following placing:
1st
Owen Fitzgerald- long jump, 100m div 4

HEAD LICE (NITS)
TIPS
The lice themselves are hard to spot, but look out for brown or
grey insects about
the size of a match head that lurk at the roots of your child’s
hair.
A nit will not easily come off the hair but dandruff will.
Teach your child not to share brushes, combs, hats, swimming
caps or hair bands.
Braid long hair, or tie it back while your child is at
school.
