By: Lesley PerkThe cool fine weather and good shooting conditionsset the tone for the Childers Cup held on Saturday20th and Sunday 21st June at the Isis District RifleRange with a record attendance of 47 shooters and146 nominations.

This was the 7th Childers Cup shoot and the first time air pistol and airrifle were included in the program. Our new air shed was opened on the31st of October last year and club members have been using it eversince. The club recently acquired some air rifles and air pistols and thishas created a lot of interest from club members and new shooters tocome and try.

This year's competition attracted shooters from local clubs Childers,Maryborough, South Kolan, Mundubbera, Bundaberg and Gympie aswell as Brisbane, Toowoomba and Lismore.

There were some PB's recorded including a first ever silhouette 40 shotby young Riley Hammelswang from South Kolan. John Wooldridgewas also on his game winning the overall benchrest and taking homepapers to acquire a brand new air rifle ­ first prize for the air rifle novicematch sponsored by QLD Gun Exchange and Pro­Tactical.

The camp fire was well attended as usual thanks to Kym for the hugesupply of wood. On Saturday night Matt Murillo from Gympieentertained us with his antique record player and some old Slim Dustyand Chad Morgan records.

Many Thanks to the club members who did the work preparing therange and running the shoot. Thank you Roy, Marg, Alan, Robyn andRod for help in the scoring room, and the ladies who kept everyonewell fed and put on a selection of sumptuous hot­pots for Saturdaynight's dinner.

Competitors from the countries of Australia, Ireland,Brazil, Italy, Czech, Philippines, Finland, SouthAfrica, Great Britain, Ukraine, India and USAattended. Host country Australia topping the medaltally with 17 medals in total.

VVaallee TTeedd BBrruuttoonnIt is with much regret that we inform Ted Bruton sadly passed away on Sunday,August 23. A member of the Charleville Small Bore Rifle Club, “Fruity” as hewas known to his mates was a larger than life personality who will be missedby all who knew him. Our deepest condolences to his wife Anne and theBruton family.

Dane Sampson's strong run ofinternational form continued earlier

this month with another impressive outing at theISSF World Cup round in Gabala, Azerbaijan. In10m Air Rifle qualifications Dane shot 626.1 tofinish 11th, only 0.6 points away from the final. Hebacked this form up the next day in his 50m Proneelimination with 622.4 to finish 7th in theelimination. In the Prone qualification he betteredthat score, scoring 624.7 to finish 15th overall,missing the final by only 1.5 points.

The TRA Three Position Postal Competition is backand will run from September 2015 to January 2016.

The competition consists ofteams of three shooters(plus reserves) and eachparticipant must complete a3x20 match each month.

NOTE: We won this competition last year :­)

QTS will submit one team (more teams if numbersare available). The 3P matches at the statechampionships will serve as trials for the team(s)and also the team scores for round 1.
