Sports News...

Some of our Year 11 students along with Miss Merritt and

Miss Perry were given the opportunity to visit DP WORLD in

Corrringham and take part in a tour overseen by an Operations

Shift Manager.

This is the newest port in Essex and is continually expanding. The

students were given a guided tour of the quayside, where they

saw a ship docking, along with the tug boats guiding them. They

also got to witness the ten cranes in action, costing one million

pounds each. In addition to this the students had a tour of the

offices, control rooms and cranes repair room.

Students said how much they enjoyed the tour and how they

would like to have their mock interview with DP WORLD.

DP WORLD commented on how well behaved all students were;

asking relevant questions and genuinely interested in the

running of the port.

Thank you to Graham for an informative tour of DP WORLD.

Isabella Stevens and Grace Gjoni from Hepburn 10 asked their form tutor Miss Stacey if they could speak to the class during form time. The girls introduced everyone to the shocking story of Leah Sharibu who was one of 110 female students who were kidnapped by Boko Haram from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College in Nigeria on the 19th February 2018. All the other girls were released, except for Leah who has been detained on account of her Christian faith. Isabella and Grace spoke so passionately and eloquently that everyone in Hepburn 10 decided to help. Each student wrote a letter to the Nigerian Embassy asking them to search for Leah because we believe that everyone should be treated equally irrespective of their race, religion or gender. The work of students in Hepburn 10 shows us how young people can make a positive difference in the world.

Gable Hall Fitness Suite up and running!

If your child would like to use the Fitness Suite, they must first complete an induction course. Please see the PE Department for the correct year groups days and times for inductions.

Hepburn 10 unite for cause!

Congratulations to: Year 9 Netball Team who beat Hassenbrook on Thursday 11th October with a score of 37-4. Player of the game was awarded to Poppy Proctor. Year 9 and 10 athletes who took part in Lee Valley Indoor Athletics on Wednesday 10th October. A special congratulations to Tumi Ajayi who came 2nd in high jump and 200 metres managing to jump 1.45 metres and ran 200 metres in 28.91 seconds. Also to Michael Onilogbo who came 1st in 200m for the boys with a time of 24.2 seconds. Well done to all students, Miss Karkocki and Mr Wilson were very proud of how everyone competed. The following year 7 boys who have been selected to represent The Thurrock School's football team. Trials were held over 2 weeks with boys attending from all schools across Thurrock. To get one boy selected is great, but to have 5 boys chosen is an amazing achievement. The GHS PE Department wish them all the best for the season; Ronnie Jones, Jackson Comptom, Oscar Harris, Callum Hayden and Freddie Barrett.

Year 11 Visit DP World

Former Gable Hall Student, Oliver Spooner, who played football for Gable Hall from year 7, has been selected by England C manager Paul Fairclough for an England FA XI match for an ambassadorial visit to the Falkland Islands.

Oliver who currently plays for Basildon Utd plays in the Bostik Northern Premier league, level 4 of the football pyramid, which is four leagues from playing professional football. Oliver has been a regular starter which has seen Basildon top the table which is remarkable as Oliver is only 17 years old.

Gable Hall PE department and everyone else at Gable Hall wish Oliver all the best for the future.
