Uniform Students are ambassadors of Arndell Anglican College and as such are expected to wear their uniform with pride. A reminder that wearing of the correct school uniform is essential. There are times where we understand mishaps occur with uniforms; however, it is becoming far too often that students present to school in alternative uniforms. Some of the things we have noticed an increase in include patterned socks, scrunchies that are not in College colours, skirts that are not knee length and clear plastic studs. It is not acceptable for a note to be sent by parents advising the College that they have decided to give their child permission to wear their sports uniform to school. Students have been reminded this week of our uniform expectations and have been referred to the Uniform Policy. Students who fail to conform with these expectations will be dealt with via our discipline structures. Con't over

AttendanceSection 22 of the Education Act (1990) requires that parents (including caregivers) ensure that children of compulsory school age are enrolled at and regularly attend school.  The New South Wales Department of Education may take legal action against parents and caregivers who do not send their children to school without a valid reason.  All parents with a child(ren) enrolled at Arndell Anglican College must adhere to the rules regarding student attendance at both school itself and at each timetabled class.  Inconsistent attendance is considered to be detrimental to children’s progress, and holidays extended into term time are firmly discouraged for the same reason. It is crucial that as a College we monitor all attendance and in doing so your role as a parent or caregiver is of paramount importance. Role of Parents ensuring that their children attend school every day the school is open for their instruction;

explaining the absences of their children from school promptly by means such as a telephone call, written note, text message, online via our Parent Portal (secondary school) or email to the school within 3 days from the first day of any period of absence; andworking in partnership with the school to plan and implement strategies to support regular attendance at school, including communicating with the school if they are aware of issues impacting on their child's attendance or engagement with school.

Seeking Extended LeaveRequests for approved extended periods of absence should be received by the Headmasters Office at least 4 days prior to the commencement of known leave periods (i.e. family holidays, sporting event attendances or other travel requirements). Parents it is a mandatory obligation that any leave over 2 days is formally requested through the Headmaster and in writing. Impacting exams and other assessed tasks can have significant learning consequences.

Responding to Christchurch Luke 7:50 And Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” Luke 8:48 “Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” As I sit down to write this week I find myself greatly saddened to hear the news of the violent tragedy from Christchurch, New Zealand. I do not understand how someone could act in such a way. I cannot claim to know the fear those in New Zealand must be feeling. I only hope that as a community known by God we can show the love God has shown us through his son. In our Secondary School Chapels this term we’ve been exploring the comfort God gives his people in Luke 7-8. In two of the stories we see great sadness in life. One of a woman who is ostracised from society due to her sinful life. The second, a woman who is considered unacceptable due to a medical condition. They come to Jesus, recognising that he can give them something no one else can give, forgiveness and healing. When they receive what they need, Jesus tells them to ‘go in peace’. Jesus too is the one who can give us true peace.I found this prayer from Sandy Grant, most helpful in helping respond to Christchurch: Almighty Father, you rule the earth and its people in love. We pray for those torn apart through the ravages of terror in these New Zealand mosques today. And we ask you to bring comfort and healing to the injured and grieving.In a world of too much darkness, give to all who exercise authority determination to defend freedom and justice for all, strength to protect and safeguard the innocent, and vision to guide our world into pathways of peace.In this time of uncertainty and fear, help us all to love our enemies and do good to those who hate us, noting the example of Jesus Christ.We look to him as the Prince of peace, in whose name we pray. Amen. If you have any questions about the Christian faith or chaplaincy at the College, please contact the Chaplaincy team.

ROUND ONE On the 26th of February we saw Arndell Anglican College host round one of the HICES Debating. It was a terrific afternoon of high quality thinking and arguing with 4 of 7 Arndell teams victorious. Arndell has multiple Middle division teams and a large Junior school squad. The Junior team (Years 5/6) of Charlotte James, Jack Woods, Ivy Constantine and Sarah McNally (4th) had a fantastic first up win against Rouse Hill Anglican. Year 7Red team of Anne Bellamy, Andrew Smith, Kahlia Hitchock and Hanna Maple (4th) started their year with a strong win against William Clarke College, whereas our Year 7White team (Rachel Nanthakumaran, Caleb Swift, Jackson Hunt and Aimee Bawcombe) and Year 8Blue team Natalie McMurray, Abby Peters, Elliot Sullivan and Brady McPhee performed strongly but both went down to experienced Hills Grammar teams. The topic "We should implement a quota for indigenous athletes for the Olympic Games". Year 10Blue Ben Webb, Caleb Clark, Maylee Neary and Evie Claxton prevailed over a gallant Year 9Red India Culey, Oliver Baldwin-Marshall, Cassie Steenbeeke and Jordan Mark on “Foreign aid does more harm than good”. The Opens team of Gemma Thompson, Noah, Shean Jake James and Will Bell turned on the power to defeat a strong William Clarke team on “we need a military intervention in America not Venezuela.” It must be remembered that all debates in the Senior and Open division are impromptu; teams only know the topics and their side of the argument an hour before speaking, so these were challenging topics. ROUND TWO The first debate saw two Arndell teams against each other – 1 win, 1 loss unavoidable. The Open teams defeating two Hills Grammar teams. Special praise for Jake James who continued to debate in the midst of Year 12 examinations; exemplary commitment. The Junior 5/6 team performed valiantly but were defeated by a strong Hills Grammar “A” team. What the statistics don’t reveal is that even under some challenging circumstances, all of these teams were highly competitive in every debate and learned a lot about debating and resilience when faced by adversity. Round 3 will return to Arndell for a second time this year on Monday, 8th of April.

CAREERS EXCURSION – MASTER BUILDERS’ ASSOCIATION (NSW) TRADES SEMINAR

Last Monday, 4th of March, a group of 20 Year 10 boys made the trip to Castle Hill for a trades’ seminar titled “Build Your Story” run by the Master Builders’ Association of NSW. Arndell was one of five schools attending, with one of the largest groups. The students behaved impeccably throughout and were fine ambassadors for the College. The presentation included interactive presentations and most importantly, the opportunity to meet and ask questions of business owners and tradesmen. Four tradesman told their personal stories and explained all the reasons why students should consider a career in the building industry. Some of the reasons given were the ability to be independent, to work with your hands and get the satisfaction of seeing what you create on a daily basis and to experience new challenges every day. Students were also given great advice as to the need to get up early (three of the speakers are up between 4 and 5 a.m. each day), work hard each day to learn new skills and to concentrate on Mathematics as one of their subjects whilst at school. Interestingly, it was also stated that it could be an advantage to finish Year 12 rather than leave in Year 10 currently, with the desirability of having your driver’s licence and the increased level of social maturity of apprentices given as reasons. Presentations were also given by representatives from the Apprenticeship programmes. The Association, through the Group Training Organisation, employs 300 apprenticeships across a wide range of trades. There are also cadetships within the building industry for those wishing to become project managers. Four Arndell students, showing commendable initiative and enthusiasm, spoke to one of the presenters, Brendon (Brenic Constructions) about possible work experience. He very kindly offered to give them an opportunity to do this. This was a great learning experience for the students attending.

2019 ARNDELL SHOWJUMPING CLASSIC

The Arndell Show Jumping Classic 2019 was a wonderful day full of thrilling competition and good sportsmanship. Competitors from afar made the trip to the Hawkesbury showgrounds and competed in classes ranging from 45cm up to 110 cm. Riders and their horses were beautifully turned out and represented their schools with distinction. Arndell was represented by 18 riders who all performed very well. A big thank you to the students who were punctual and in order throughout the day. Thank you to the parents who offered assistance when the need arose.
