Please direct all enquiries to Leanne Lonergan on 4349 5500. Welcome to our winter issue of Quality Circle. This is the third since I have been CEO so time is definitely marching on! Based on your feedback from the recent staff survey, we are working hard behind the scenes to make a number of operational improvements. A priority for me is supporting our staff to deliver quality outcomes to participants through an effective recruitment, induction and ongoing training program. We are also working to improve two-way communication so that everyone is well informed and feels they can have a say and be heard. Culture is key, and it is very important that each of us belongs to ‘One Fairhaven’ and that we have a shared understanding of who we are and what we stand for. We will build on Fairhaven’s strong local history as a quality disability service provider, update our practice and identify operational efficiencies. I am currently working on a 12-18 month plan that will see us focus our efforts on four key areas: Unity: Establish and embed a ‘One Fairhaven’ collaborative culture that supports and empowers our people to deliver service excellence. Quality: Deliver best practice, person centric services that delight and satisfy our participants. Sustainability: Redesign individual business models to achieve organisation-wide viability, improve operational performance and generate capital for reinvestment and growth. Profile: Raise Fairhaven’s profile to top three awareness within the Central Coast charitable/NFP space by embedding the core elements of our brand message across all communication. We are also strengthening our bi-monthly family group meetings, using the time together to share information and look for ways to improve our services and participant outcomes. In other news, we recently settled the purchase of our property at Tuggerah and will now lease it back to continue business as usual. The new owners are Ecoline, a company that constructs treetop rope courses in Europe and Australia. They have generously offered to take our Tuggerah ADE team on a treetop adventure in a ‘get to know the neighbours’ exercise… should be fun! Enjoy this issue … until next time. Quality Circle Newsletter – June/July 2017 2

There are six National Standards that apply to disability service providers. The Human Rights principles overarch all the National Standards. This newsletter we feature Standard Two: Participation and Inclusion. The intent of this standard is to promote the connection of people with disability with their families, friends and chosen communities. It also requires that services work together with individuals to enable their genuine participation and inclusion.Rights for peopleI have the right to participate in my chosen community. I also have the right to decide how I have contact with family, friends and community.

Outcomes for peopleI follow my interests, with the support of my services, family, friends, carers or advocates.

Standards for serviceThe service works with individuals and families, friends and carers to promote opportunities for meaningful participation and active inclusion in society.

Earlier this year we partnered with Adssi HomeLiving Australia (AHLA) to apply for a case management grant to help some of the people working in supported employment to consider other day time activities. We recently found out that we were successful!

This means that people working in our ADE can learn about, consider, trial and potentially choose other things to do that will provide better life outcomes than working in an ADE. Case management will help people to make informed choices about staying or leaving supported employment, and will assist with future planning.

This is a free service. If you are interested please speak with either Julie Maloney or Lynne Turley.

Places will be limited to 15-20 maximum and people with lower workplace productivity who will most likely benefit from case management will be given priority.

Fairhaven is a proud supporter of the annual Coast Connect Day to be held this year on Wednesday 26 July. Connect Day supports people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or simply doing it tough by providing access to free food, clothing, winter blankets, community services and toiletry items – things that we might take for granted.

We have a donation point in the Point Clare kitchen. Please pop a few extra things in your shopping trolley over the coming months like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes, deodorant, skin care and soaps and drop them into the kitchen crate. Please also go through your cupboards and pull out any clothing, winter woollies, sheets, blankets and doonas. These larger items can be dropped off at Niagara Park Stadium by 21 July.

Our community mini-bus is able to help some clients live an active and engaged life. But we want to help more!

With a hydraulic chairlift installed in our iMax bus, whether in a wheelchair or on crutches, more people would be able to get about in the community and experience the joy of discovery, belonging and celebration. We need to raise $20,000 to make this possible.

As we near the end of the financial year now is a good time to make a tax deductible donation to charitable causes you care about. A donation to Fairhaven will go a long way toward achieving our goal to install the hydraulic chairlift. You can help! Get on board! Give generously by 30 June.

Donate by calling 4349 5500 or online at our website: www.fairhavenservices.com.au/donate

Congrats to Tuggerah employee Wendy Doswell for her Special Olympics ribbons in Bowling!

In our recent Parent Meeting we clarified that participants do not have to pay for support worker meals. We also provided information on the NSW Companion Card which allows a person’s carer free entry into participating venues and events. If you’d like further information about these topics or anything else, contact Roslyn Murphy, our Client Relations Officer, on 4349 5500

We have entered Vintage Fair in the NSW Business Chamber Awards in the category for Social Enterprise Excellence! Wish us luck.

Jo Henderson in the upcycling team is becoming quite a whizz at sashiki stitching. Pictured here funkying up some pillows slips for the Erina pop up shop. Great work Jo!
