Of course, this is not new to education. Good teachers innately know that they are growing anddeveloping the whole child. However, at Arndell we are aiming to be more explicit in ourintentions about growing the intellectual character of our students. The Learning JourneyFramework is clearly visible in every classroom which outlines the individual, interpersonaland intellectual skills that have been identified as valuable in growing character. These includequalities like Courage, Growth, Integrity, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication,Relationship and Respect which relate to the attitudes and skills a student needs to develop as alearner. Additionally we are aiming to model Critical Thinking, Comprehensive Thinking,Meaningful Thinking and Rigorous Thinking to help grow a student’s intellectual character.Intentional practise of these skills aims to bring about intentional growth in their thinking skills.  As a consequence, the format and structure of reporting will change this semester, to reflect ourfocus on intellectual character development. The intention of these changes is not to makejudgement on the child, but to increase awareness of the thinking habits that are underpinningthe choices they make both within and outside of the classroom. The ultimate aim is toencourage self-reflection, develop a desire for personal growth and increase every student’scapacity as a learner.  When Paul advised the Roman church to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind”(Romans 12:2) he understood that our everyday lives are a mirror of our thinking habits. Heunderstood that real transformation begins with a deeper understanding of how we think, sothat our actions follow.
