The year 2012 had many big events from happy to sad to joyous to courageous people. It also just had some just weird events, so now here’s the year in review. By : Kirby CrossFebruary 5-The New York Giants win the Super Bowl VS The Patriots.February 28-Largest Prehistoric Penguin found at 5 feet tall.March 2-Tornado hits Indian and Kentucky and kills 27 people.March 19-Wendy’s becomes second best selling burger chain.March 26-Canadian Film maker, James Cameron, becomes the first person to visit Challenger Deep, the deepest point on Earth in over 50 yearsApril 10-Apple becomes largest company by market capitalization in the world at a value of $600 billion.April 11-8.6 magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia.May 22-Phillip Phillips becomes the 11th American Idol.June 17th-Greek voters return to the polls.June 17th-American golfer, Webb Simpson, wins the US Open.

July 15th-A Russian Soyuz rocket with an international team launches for a mission to the International Space Station. July 20-12 people die after Dark Knight Movie Open. July 25-Summer Olympics began. August 12-Summer Olympics end and the USA win. September 6-Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination for president.

September 10-Chicago teachers go on strike. September 12-Apple unveil the iPhone 5.

October 12-Mo Yan wins the 2012 Noble Prize for Literature. October 22-Hurricane Sandy forms. October 30-Disney purchases Lucasfilm and rights to Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

November 1-Google Gmail becomes most popular email service.November 15-Deep Horizon Oil Spill.

December 10 - Google begins selling US$ 99 laptops.December 14-Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.December 21-Gangnam Style becomes first YouTube video to hit one billion views.

Perfect North is open from 9:30a.m.-9:30P.M. Perfect North is located in Lawrenceburg, IN. If you want to tube daily admission is $25.00 but if your 12 or 60+ daily admission is $20.00. If your going skiing or snowboarding daily admission is $35.00 but if you are under 12 or 60+ daily admission is $30.00. If you are looking to rent ski’s or a snowboard it will cost $40.00 for one day and $75.00 for two days. If you get hungry you can get lunch at the lodge. The lodge is open from 9:00 to 6:00. Shred it up!

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots played and lost to the Baltimore Ravens. New England running back Stevan Ridley was injured and out in the third quarter due to a concussion. He still had 18 carries for 70 yards. That averages 3.9 yards a carry. Tom Brady threw for 320 yards completing 29 of 54 attempts. He threw 2 interceptions. Wes Welker caught for 117 yards. Brandon Lloyd caught for 70 yards. Aaron Hernandez caught for 83 yards. Stephen Gostkowski kicked 2 field goals and 1 extra point for an overall 7 points. That was half of their points and he was a big factor for the patriots. The Baltimore ravens did their jobs on pass defense and that was a big factor for their win. The Patriots pass defense gave up almost every pass,which was a huge part of their loss. Watch for the super bowl. Ravens vs. 49ers!

Tastiest Cupcakes Ever!

Because we have the option, I wanted to bring cupcakes to school for my birthday. Mom found this recipe on the internet, and decided to make it for me to bring to school. This has been our favorite cupcake recipe since then. I personally think the icing is the best part, and it tastes like melted ice cream!

The Ultimate Vanilla Cupcake Recipe

Yield: 16 cupcakes• 1 cup (225 grams) granulated sugar• 1 vanilla bean• 1 3/4 cups (175 grams) cake flour, not self-rising• 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda• 1/2 teaspoon salt• 1/4 cup (57 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature• 2 large eggs, room temperature• 1/3 cup (75 grams) full-fat sour cream• 1/4 cup canola oil or vegetable oil (60 ml)• 1 tablespoon pure (not imitation) vanilla extract• 2/3 cup (160 ml) whole milk1. Preheat oven to 350 F (175 C).2. In a small bowl, combine sugar and seeds from the vanilla bean.3. Using the back of a spoon, move around the bowl and apply pressure

to break up any clumps of seeds and to better infuse the vanilla flavor into the sugar. Set aside.

4. In a medium-sized mixing bowl or bowl of a stand mixer, mix together cake flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

5. Add the vanilla bean sugar and mix until well combined.6. Add butter and mix on medium-low speed for three minutes.

Because there is so little butter, you'll end up with a very fine crumb texture.

7. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, sour cream, oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

8. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and beat on medium speed until just combined.

9. Slowly add milk and mix on low speed until just combined. The batter will be liquid. (Don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong. It's supposed to be that way.)

10. Fill cupcake liners just over 1/2 full.11. Bake for 14 minutes and then test to see if they are done. They are

done when a toothpick comes out without wet batter stuck to it. The cupcakes should appear white with specks of vanilla bean. They should not turn a golden brown. If they are not done, test again in two minutes. If they are still not done, test again in another two minutes.

12. When the cupcakes are done, remove them immediately from the tins and leave them on a cooling rack (or just on your counter if you don't own a cooling rack) to cool.

Vanilla Bean Buttercream Frosting Preparation time: 10 minutes

Ingredients• 1 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar (add more until it reaches your

preferred consistency)• 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature• 2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste (add more to taste)• 1 tablespoon milk

Directions1. Mix together sugar and butter until they are blended and creamy. 2. Add vanilla bean paste and milk and continue to beat for another

minute. 3. If desired, add more vanilla bean paste to taste, or more

Mustangs Rolling! The boys 7th grade basketball team has been rolling strong so far this season. They have started off hot with a 12-1 record. Lead by Coach Bob Volz, the team’s sharp tactics and excellent roster have allowed them to play good team ball through their first 13 games. Although they will have to keep it up as the finish out their season. Tournament season is approaching quickly and the Mustangs need your support. Their remaining schedule is as follow:

ParaNorman is an animated movie by the makers of Coraline. Like its predecessor, ParaNorman is about the paranormal and aims to have an element of fear. The story of ParaNorman starts with Norman, a young boy who has the power to see ghosts. Due to this power he is made fun of by his peers and is misunderstood by his parents. When he is entrusted to keep the witch that gives his town its fame at bay something goes wrong and it doesn’t happen. The curse is then activated and brings back the people who persecuted the witch from the dead as zombies who Norman and his friends first need to stop... or do they? I find ParaNorman an overall good movie that has humor excitement and a touch of emotional depth. Though I find some of the humor questionable it would probably appeal to the majority of people aged from any where from 10 to 50.
