the students that India was still in the 132nd place out of 174 countries in its development and the children must work hard to bring our country to the number one position. The celebrations came to an end with the distribution of sweets.

The whole programme was meticulously planned and executed. Every minor detail symbolized the occasion including the breakfast which consisted of white uppit, orange kesaribath, green uppit and flat vada (for chakra) symbolizing the National Flag. Kudos to the organizing team…

When change began in the world of communication we were happy. The revolution took us from rotary to push button phones, cordless phones, digital phones, cell phones and what not? As man is becoming more intricately connected, his relationship with information is changing in a fundamental way. The incident at Assam leading to the exodus of people from the northeast from many parts of India following rumors sheds light on the changing nature of our engagement with information and the new anxieties that surround its use and abuse. The sudden exodus from the northeast from many Indian cities is almost entirely the result of a surfeit of information, the multiplication of motivated rumour by social media in the form of morphed pictures and videos. Even when the state uttered many assurances and politicians joined ranks, the rush to leave continued. The power of unsubstantiated rumour is hardly a new phenomenon; it occurs in every riot, political scandal and once in a while when wild elephants enters Mysore city. But here what we notice is that the role of the new technology. My close friend is glued to TV & believes whatever he sees & hears on Tv9. I tried to reason & explain but in vain. His only answer is that they are saying it on TV and it has to be true & no other possible explanation. It is for us to use the technology in the right way and let us do it.

Cheers !!!

remember my dad teaching me the power of language at a very young age. Not only did my dad understand that specific words affect our mental pictures, but he understood words are a powerful Iprogramming factor in lifelong success.

One particular interesting event occurred when I was eight. As a kid, I was always climbing trees, poles, and literally hanging around upside down from the rafters of our lake house. So, it came to no surprise for my dad to find me at the top of a 30-foot tree swinging back and forth. My little eight year old brain didn't realize the tree could break or I could get hurt. I just thought it was fun to be up so high.My older cousin, Tammy, was also on the same tree. She was hanging on the first big limb, about ten feet below me. Tammy's mother also noticed us at the exact time my dad did. About that time a huge gust of wind came over the tree. I could hear the leaves start to rattle and the tree begin to sway. I remember my dad's voice over the wind yell, “Bart, hold on tightly.” So I did. The next thing I know, I heard Tammy screaming at the top of her lungs, lying flat on the ground. She had fallen out of the tree.I scampered down the tree to safety. My dad later told me why she fell and I did not. Apparently, when Tammy's mother felt the gust of wind, she yelled out, “Tammy, don't fall!” And Tammy did fall.My dad then explained to me that the mind has a very difficult time processing a negative image. In fact, people who rely on internal pictures cannot see a negative at all. In order for Tammy to process the command of not falling, her nine year old brain had to first imagine falling, then try to tell the brain not to do what it just imagined. Whereas, my eight-year-old brain instantly had an internal image of me hanging on tightly. This concept is especially useful when you are attempting to break a habit or set a goal. You can't visualize not doing something. The only way to properly visualize not doing something is to actually find a word for what you want to do.

Positive thinking is a mental attitude that admits into the mind thoughts, words and images that are conductive to growth, expansion and success. It is a mental attitude that expects good and favourable results. Reproduced below is a story sent by Rtn. Alagappan...

A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity. An optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.

When it comes to increasing membership, one size does not fit all, says Manoj Desai of the Membership Development and Retention Committee.Understanding a region’s unique needs, customs, and historic trends can greatly enhance the ability of district leaders to bring in new members and retain existing ones. The RI Board of Directors recently approved the development of regional membership plans that take these differences into account. Most of these plans were approved by the Board in May. Some regions are still developing their plans and will submit them to the Board in November.District Governors for 2011-12, 2012-13, and 2013-14 will receive their region’s plan or be told the status of their region’s plan by the beginning of their term.By using these plans as a starting point in drafting membership and retention goals, along with an action plan to meet those goals, leaders will be better able to help RI meet the membership goal recently set by the Board: 1.3 million Rotarians by 30 June 2015.“Members are the lifeline of Rotary International,” says Desai. “The chief benefit of these regional membership plans is to make Rotary vibrant, have positive membership growth, and be the number one volunteer organization in future years.”The plans were created by a committee of Rotary leaders in each region, headed by the Rotary Director. Each region’s strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and challenges, were taken into account in setting targets. Many of the plans included recommendations. For example, India’s regional plan encourages all club membership chairs to attend membership development seminars that will be created by Rotary coordinators and district leaders. The plan sets a goal of 10 percent membership growth each year through 2015.“In India, Rotary leadership has challenged all the district leaders and they have accepted the challenge,” says Desai.
