Casto Connections April, 1998 Volume 1, Issue 4
HELLO, COUSIN! We are very excited about this issue of Casto
Connections and really hope that you will enjoy it, too! Many times
we hear the question, “How are we related to each other?”. Now,
you’ll be able to see for yourself. This issue is filled with the
Casto lineage of 20 of our readers and a chart attempting to show
where most fit in. In working on this issue, one of the most
puzzling of Casto problems came to surface again and we’re now
throwing out on the table for open, active debate. We would like to
hear from our readers their theories and/or documentation on who
were the wives of William Casto, son of David and Phoebe Gandy
Casto, who married Hannah Bonnett, Margaret Parsons, and perhaps
one other. One of our subscribers recently sent this information
taken from Casto-Little
Cemetery at Rockcastle. Benjamin F. Casto died May 1, 1882, aged
83 years, son of William and Margaret (Parsons) Casto. Benjamin’s
first wife was Sarah Shinn, who died June 2, 1852, aged 46 y, 3 m,
5 d. This is a step in the right direction. One of our other
subscribers, who is not a genealogist but is interested in the
family history, reported her grandfather never mentioned a person
named “Bonnett” but did mention a “Parsons” connection. And, no,
this reader isn’t of the William, Jr. line that married Martha
Parsons. So, if you have any information concerning this little
problem, please let us know. In a later newsletter, we can share
any new leads. Happy Hunting!

If we had had enough room, we would have liked to present a
family group sheet for each subscriber. However, since our space
was limited, we have chosen to present the material in this manner.
We have included the subscriber’s name and contact information and
encourage you to contact them for more complete information. We did
not have sufficient room for everyone’s lineage and some responses
were not received in time for publication so if the response to
this issue is favorable then we’ll publish the other lines at a
later date. The last page of the newsletter is a color fold-out
chart of the subscribers who are descendents of David and Phoebe
(Gandy) Casto since most of the subscribers’ line descend from
them. Be sure to notice how various researchers have different
dates for the same ancestors!

off Andrew Casto (1761-1855) but by a different wife. Both Jim and
Katy are active in Casto research and have been doing it for a
number of years. Jim has recently created a web page and an e-mail
subscriber list devoted to Casto research. I think this is a very
exciting venture and hope many of our subscribers will contact him
at the above address for more information! He is also looking for
any transcribed census records for Castos from any state for
1900-1920. Please contact him if you have info you’d like to share!

Well, that’s all I got, folks! If I’ve made any typos, please
forgive me! I hope this issue will be both informative as well as
enjoyable for all of you and that you’ll tell us what you think. I
created the fold-out chart back when I started working on this

it! I hope it helps you, too! Danita
