If you pass by our junior sandpit you have probably noticed
that
we have half of a car in there. This terrific piece of play
equipment
and stimulation for the imagination was installed by Mr
Trevor
Wheatley. We thank Trevor and Mrs Jeanette Wheatley for
their
very generous donation. We appreciate the time and effort
that
has gone into this focal point in our playground.

Standardised Tests
Last Wednesday we had about 20 parents gather for our
inaugural
“Parent Morning tea”. This event was hosted by Monica, Will
and
Tara from your school council. It was A great chance to meet
new
parents but also to just take the time to chat to others. We
are
looking to have one of these gatherings every week 4 or 5 of
each
term.
During week 6 of this term we are running standardised tests
from
years pre primary to year 6. The results/data from the
standardised tests will only be used at a school level and will
help
guide us with regard to the types of curriculum adjustments
that
may be required for all students and for groups of students.
Your
children may be tested on Spelling, Vocabulary,
Comprehension,
and Numeracy. The format is quite similar to the NAPLAN test
so
conducting these tests will help many children feel even
more
comfortable when completing NAPLAN (Years 3 & 5 only) in
Term
2. If you are interested in test results for your child, the
teachers
will have the test analysis data available to them in weeks 8 or
9 of
term 1.

Our “rebadging” is going well, if anything it is ahead of
schedule. Within the next month you
should start seeing School signs being changed to “Rivervale”
with a new colour and new logo.
These changes will not transfer to the uniform until much later
in the year. We are currently
working to secure a donation from a local business allowing us
to cover the cost of a new
uniform polo for every student in the school. We will certainly
allow children to wear the
current Tranby uniform for all of 2016 if they choose.
This coming Monday is a Public Holiday. School will be open on
Tuesday 8th March. Don't forget
that Easter is a separate holiday this year. We will be on break
from Good Friday , 25th March
and return to school on Wednesday 30th March. School holidays
then start on Friday 8th April,
returning to school on Wednesday 27th April.
