Imo State. He is the Fifth Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. He started his career as Teaching Assistant/Research Officer-Department of Chemical Pathology & Sub-Department of Clinical Pharmacology College of Medicine/University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria in October 1987 to December 1990. In 1991 he became lecturer I in the Department of Chemical Pathology, College of Health Sciences, Nnewi, UNIZIK. On October 1 st 1994, he was made a senior lecturer, and was promoted to the rank of a Professor of Chemical Pathology on October 1 1994. Prof. Ahaneku was at different times Consultant and Unit Head Sub-Department of Chemical Pathology, UNIZIK (1992-till date), Head, Department of Prosthesis & Orthopaedic Technology, School of Health Technology, Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri. Head, Department of Chemical Pathology, UNIZIK, Coordinator, Chemical Pathology unit of the Pathological Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Nnewi Campus, Acting Provost, College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Nnewi Campus, Sub-Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, UNIZIK, Director, CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and HANBAN China, Acted for the Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in his absence at different periods and for different length of time, Deputy Vice- Chancellor (DVC) (Academic), NAU since April, 2010. PROFILE OF THE NEW VICE-CHANCELLOR; PROF. Prof. Joseph Ahaneku has close to seventy scientific research publications, books/articles in different areas, has local and international research experience, as Chairman, International Cooperation/Linkages, Prof. Ahaneku was able to achieve the establishment of active linkages with 26 Institutions world-over. He facilitated the enlisting of Nnamdi Azikiwe University as Fulbright and Forgerty fellowship participating Institution. He participated at the National Discourse on “Nigeria in Global Peace Support Operations” hosted by the Nigerian Defence Academy 19th to 21st July 2009. He has contribution towards the advancement of university education in Nigeria. He has quite a lot of enviable honours, fellowships and awards to his credit. The Professor of Chemical Pathologist has been Chairman/Member of federal, state/ local government boards/ governing councils/ agencies/ bodies and committees. Prof. Ahaneku is happily married to Dr. (Mrs.) Gladys I. Ahaneku, a Consultant Cardiologist and a Senior Lecturer of this noble university, with five children.

He is a catholic with every sense of responsibility, and Principled. A professional in his field of study. He is also respected for his dedication to work,

as his primary aim is positive output. He is well-travelled and makes every effort to replicate knowledge where ever he finds himself.

THE NEW VICE-CHANCELLOR TAKES OVERFollowing the laid down procedure for the election of Vice-Chancellor, and after an exhaustive meeting held on Monday May 26, 2014 by the University Governing Council where votes were cast as part of the process, the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka led by the Chairman, Air Vice Marshal Larry Koinyan (Rtd) has appointed Prof. Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku the new of Vice-Chancellor of the University.

In a letter signed by the Chairman, and in accordance with the applicable provision in the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act No.11 of 1993, and Section 3 of Principal Act as amended in Section 4b of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment Act, 2003, and 2007 Act No.1, the appointment shall be for a single term of five (5) years, and with effect from Wednesday, 4th of June, 2014. The terms and condition of the appointment are as approved by the Federal Government for all Federal Universities.

Prof. E. Ahaneku who is a professor of Chemical Pathology and a Fellow of Academy of Science took over from the former Vice-Chancellor Prof. B.C.E Egboka, whom he worked with for two-tenure (four years) as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic. Prof. Ahaneku resumed office on June 3rd, 2014 as the fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor of NNamdi Azikiwe University.

THE FORMER VICE-CHANCELLOR BOWS OUTThe former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Boniface C.E. Egboka FAS has completed his tenure successfully.The Hydro-geologist took over the mantle of leadership in May 26th 2008 as Ag. Vice-Chancellor and Substantive VC on June 3rd, 2009, hence, officially ended his tenure on June 3rd, 2014. As the Vice-Chancellor, he achieved outstanding strides as seen in the University.

THE NEW VICE-CHANCELLOR RECEIVES CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES/VISITSThe newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku, FAS recently received messages and visits from the Academic Staff Union of Universities, UNIZIOK Chapter, some staff of the university, and the Student Union Government.Speaking during the visit by the Executive Members of the SUG, Prof. Ahaneku pledged to transform the university within his five year tenure. More so, he thanked the students for the confidence they have in him and for finding time to pay him visit. He said the university exit because of the students. The university,he continued, has united all inside the ivory tower with common destiny, common goal where knowledge is imparted and ultimately aimed in solving the problem the problems of society. Again, the new VC called on the University Community to be willing to make sacrifices for the growth of the university, as the university requires hard work, dedication and loyalty so that our collective dream for the university can be realized. He also urged the students to read their book, and maintain peace in the university.Earlier in his comment, the president of the SUG, Comrade ChukwunonsoIbe pledges loyalty and support of the entire students. He said that the students are happy at the choice made by the Council. He however pleaded that the new should also give support to the students. Present also for the visit include; the SUD Vice-President, Com. Queen Aguluefo, the Chief Judge, IfesinachiMuoneme, the Speaker of the Students’ parliament, Hon. ChekwubeOkigbo.

The Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Nnamdi Azikiwe University Chapter, led by the President Prof. (Dame) E.I. Chukwura visted the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. BCE Egboka for a Send-forth courtesy call.

According to the president, the organization was inaugurated by the VC in 2012. In March 10, 2011 wife of the former VC was unanimously appointed as the patroness of the organization and, and she received an award from the organization in the same year. Prof. Chukwurah said the organization began in 2010, after an international conference held in Beijing, China in 2010, and has engaged in many activities. A go ahead from the Hon. Commissioner for Education Dr. (Mrs) Kay Onyechi has seen the organization carry out some activities, and other plans of holding seminars for the undergraduate female students and engineering students of the university. On behalf of the organization, Prof. Chukwurah thanked the VC for his support to the organization.In his speech, the VC said he appreciated their visit. He said events have shown that women are doing very well in any position they are placed. He promised that he will give encouragement and advise when he is needed in future.

OFFICIAL CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION WITH ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENTThe Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Chief (Dr.) Willie Obiano, through the Chief of Staff, has assigned functions to all the Ministries in his administration. Hence, the Ministry of Special Duties has been assigned the function of handling matters affecting Federal Agencies including the NYSC and NSCDC in Anambra State.In a letter signed by the Hon. Commissioner for Special Duties, Sir Norbert Obi, he stated that official matters should be directed to the State Government through the ministry.NEWLY ELECTED UNIZIK VC PLEDGE TO PROMOTE PEACE AND DEVELOPMENTThe newly elected Vice-Chancellor elected and the fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Prof. Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku has pledged to continue to promote peace and development in the University.

Prof. Ahaneku made this pledge at an official handing over of administration from the out going Vice-Chancellor.The newly elected Vice-Chancellor of the University expressed appreciation to the out-going Vice-Chancellor Prof. Boniface C. E. Egboka for the fame, academic excellence and infrastructural development witnessed in his administration. He added that the history of Nnamdi Azikiwe University would not be complete without recognising his good works. He pray God to continue to protect him and shower him with blessings.

Prof. Egboka while congratulating the newly elected Vice Chancellor advised him to always carry all along in his administration. He commended the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for his transformation agenda especially the recent construction of the second Niger Bridge in the country.

Also the University Registrar, Barr. C.C Okeke expressed gratitude to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor for his fatherly disposition all through his period of administration.

The Minister of Power, Engr. Prof. Chinedu Nebo,

categorically stated that sending practical engineers

in the field is what Nigeria needs to move forward. He

said this during a courtesy visit to the VC to start off the Late Prof. Godian Ezekwe Memorial Lecture/Faculty of Engineering National Conference. Furthermore, he said, that the industries should implore the help of academics to work for a better result in the country. While commending and thanking, the VC, Prof. Boniface C. E. Egboka for courageously moving forward, the Honourable Minister of Power said he was pleased and privileged to be in UNIZIK. He said it was not easy to be a Vice-Chancellor especially in a Nigerian University. He also thanked the Old Boys of Government Secondary School Afikpo (GSS) his alma mater who were either staff of the University or retired staff of the University for their warm Reception.He went further to describe the late Prof. G. Ezekwe as a gift to the nation, one who had passion for mentoring

the young. He said he will do anything in his power to honour Prof. G. Ezekwe and that the Memorial Lecture is a well deserved.In his welcome speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Boniface Egboka said that his happiness is indescribable, seeing the Hon. Minister visit the University. He described Prof. Nebo as a man of integrity, who has greatly improved power in the country.

He thanked the Faculty of Engineering for organizing the Conference and Memorial Lecture, noting that the Faculty is doing great with quality personnel and well behaved students.Speaking also, Prof. Peter Nnabude of the Faculty of Agriculture said that the Old Boys of GSS Afikpo were very proud of the Minister for the good work, as there has been uninterrupted power supply since his administration. He thanked God for the well deserved

position of the Minister. A plaque award was presented to the Minister by Profs. Edwin Akusoba and Romy Okoye on behalf of the Old boys of GSS Afikpo, for his leadership role.In his vote of thanks, Prof. Sam Omenyi thanked the honourable Minister for coming to the University, he said that the University is very happy and proud of all his works, thanking God for giving him strength and courage. Thanking the old boys of GSS Afikpo for coming to welcome one of their own, he appreciated the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. P.K Igbokwe and staff of the Faculty for organizing the Conference.Also present to receive the Minister were; the VC, Paul University Prof. Gius Igboeli, the University Management , members of the Old boys of GSS Afikpo, and some members of the Faculty of Engineering.

As the saying goes, “Give honour to whom honour is due''. Special people who make unquantifiable impact should be accorded huge honour, for he that waters must be watered. This was the case of the Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Prof. Boniface C. E. Egboka when members of the Faculty of Education UNIZIK Awka held a special Faculty Board at the CBN Hall in his honour.

Earlier the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. Ogo Ibeneme in his address expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for the laudable achievements witnessed in his tenure. Describing the Vice-Chancellor as a man of decent character worthy of emulation,

a man who has raised hope and rekindled faith in many, he added that in his tenure the Faculty grew in leaps and bounds. According to him, Prof. Egboka’s administration made provision for quality and dependable staff as well as graduate assistants that in turn encouraged mentorship and helped in keeping the academic spirit alive. The Dean also expressed appreciation to the University Management and the wife of the Vice-Chancellor Lolo Ifeoma Egboka for their efforts in making his tenure a success. Goodwill messages were presented by staff and students of the Faculty to the amiable Vice-Chancellor for his good works and they prayed God to bless and see him through the remaining part of his tenure.

Highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a large picture frame and other gift items to the Vice-Chancellor for his meritorious service by the Dean of Faculty on behalf of staff and students of the Faculty.Responding the Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude for the honour done him. Commending the high level of maturity in the Faculty and the efforts at attracting finance, he congratulated the newly promoted staff of the Faculty for their hard work and urged them to do more.

He donated about twenty computer sets to the Faculty to enhance teaching and learning process. In a vote of thanks the Sub-Dean Dr. (Mrs.) Becky Adirika congratulated the VC for the transformation and increase in staff strength in the University.The event featured dance presentation by pupils of UNIZIK Nursery/Primary School. Present at the ceremony were some members of the University Management, Council Representatives, staff and students of the Faculty.

UNIZIK High School has been steadfast on the path of excellence in all areas, in the most recent excellent outing, the School won the first position at the recently concluded 2014 Mathematics and Science Olympiads Competition as overall Best School in Senior Mathematics.The School which was represented by an SS2 student, Master Aghanya Ugochukwu had earlier taken the first position in the State Competition which was a prelude to the national level.

The school of General Studies, UNIZIK together with the coordinators of different courses, led by the Director, Prof. Ngozi Orjiakor was at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor recently for a send forth ceremony where gift items were presented the VC; a generator set (ELEMAX 7.6), and cartons of different kinds of drinks, to show appreciation for his support to the school.

Speaking during the visit, the VC said the GS Unit is a very important programme, first started at the University Of Nigeria Nsukka, and it spread to other universities. According to him, it helps every person who goes through the university to get exposed to humanities, sciences, culture, etc. He said that the University is a place where leaders are made, so it is important to have a total view of all aspects of life. The Unit, he continued, has

improved; results are submitted as at when due.

In her farewell speech, the Director of the Unit Prof. Ojiakor said it is worthy to note that the VC’s tenure was marked with innumerable achievements. Every passing year, projects and programmes sponsored from within and without the University were celebrated, and new ones initiated. As a father figure, she said, the VC made effort to maintain peace and harmony amongst staff, students and the host Community always ensuring prompt payment of salaries just like his predecessor.

The School of General Studies was not left behind, as the VC relocated the Unit from a small bungalow shrouded in obscurity and isolation, to a conspicuous and more elevated position with full status as a school. Affairs of the GS Unit are now conducted with utmost

seriousness; examinations, grading and submission of results now take place within two weeks. She presented the gift items on behalf of the GS Unit.

The Director, Academic Planning Rev. Fr. Prof. ABC Chiegboka said the gesture is appreciated. He said the speech by the Director was very concise, as it captures the early days of the VC’s administration till date. He requested that the University should be remembered in prayers, so it does not transit unto crisis but unto continuity. He encouraged the VC to hold on to God.

In his vote of thanks, Dr. Arinze Agbanusi from the Department of Philosophy said the VC tried his best as a human being, but it is not easy to please everyone. The most outstanding part of his administration he said is the fact that it has a human face which was not common in the

University. He prayed for God’s love and care upon him and his family. Mrs. Joy Ogbuagu also echoed the good works done by the VC,

and prayed for God’s blessing on him and all who supported him in the actualization of all that he did.

Some members of the University Management and the wife of the Vice-Chancellor, Lolo Ifeoma Egboka were present.

These were the words of UNIZIK VC, Prof. Boniface C. E. Egboka while commending UNIZIK High School on taking the first position to win overall Best School in Mathematics at the recently concluded 2014 Mathematics and Science Olympiads. The VC showered encomiums on the winner, Master Aghanya Ugochukwu, the School Principal, Lady Dr. Ify Bosah, the teachers and l students, when the School came on a

courtesy call to present the trophies won, a plaque for the school, a gold medal for the winner and a special certificate.Prof. Egboka went on to say that the boy has made his parents, his teachers, UNIZIK High School, the University, South East and even himself proud by such a feat. He reiterated that UHS has a very high standard of excellence that should be upheld without flinching.“Study hard, aim very high, make and keep good friends who have like visions of greatness, then excellence will be yours”, he advised all students of UHS.In her response, the Principal of UHS, Lady Dr. Ify Bosah thanked the VC for all the support of his administration towards the School. She said that after the Management under Prof. Egboka, approved and equipped the Science Lab with up to date apparatus, excellence in the sciences became more enhanced. She pledged that the school will not relent in producing excellent students as there are very committed teachers and students willing to learn.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Boniface C.E. Egboka has stated that the Faculty of Agriculture, UNIZIK has a very strong future. He said this recently during a send forth ceremony in his honour by the Faculty.

Moreso, the VC said that he and his wife were over-whelmed and appreciative at the send forth. He said the Faculty, is doing very well, hence it has come to stay, explaining that it did not begin on time, it is better late than never. He expressed joy at the talents and sound minds in the Faculty. He noted that all the delicacies served at the occasion were produced by the Faculty, as stated by the Dean. Prof. Egboka said he was impressed about it. He

expressed belief that the Chairman of the Governing Council AVM Larry Koinyan who is interested in agriculture will love it too.

The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Lucy Afuluenu Nwuba in her speech said the send forth was an honour well deserved by the VC whom she said was the source of the existence of the Faculty, hence the need for an appreciation. She said the Faculty will forever remember the VC. She prayed that the VC should keep assisting the Faculty using his connection, even after his tenure.

The Chairman of the occasion, who is also a retired Professor of the Faculty, Prof. Rob Egwuatu said it was a memorable day. He also said

that the position of the Vice-Chancellor is not an enviable one, but that the VC has managed the position very well. For the past six (6) years, he continued, there has been peace on campus. Speaking on the VC’s personality, Prof. Egwuatu said that the VC has a very large heart, as he has touched many lives, including his, more so, finding him worthy to be an Emeritus Professor. He prayed that God would bless him and his wife, whom he said has been a great support to the VC. He expressed hope for the next VC to have his kind heart for continuity.

In his speech the Ag. Librarian Mr. Emma Onwuka said that, saying that the VC is committed means stating the

obvious, as he had always known him during the early days of the University as a very hard working person who works towards achieving set goals.The Provost, College of Health Sciences, Prof. C.C. Ezechukwu also made known to all the great strides attained by the VC at the College of Health Sciences Okofia. He said the College shall forever be grateful to the VC, because his footprints are seen clearly in the College.Prof. Ken Nwogu also echoed the great achievements made by the VC, noting that history

will forever remember him. To the Chairman of the event, Prof. Egwuatu, Prof.Nwogu said the history of the University will not be complete without mentioning him, as he worked with all the Vice-Chancellors since the inception of the University. He requested that the Faculty of Agriculture should continue to grow in competence and not disappoint the VC, whose administration brought the Faculty to existence.

The Faculty presented the VC and his team with produce from their farm and a sculptural work to the VC.

Speeches were entertained by other staff of the Faculty. Dr. Ernest Igwe who spoke on behalf of the Faculty saying that the VC has done very well, and has a forgiving heart. He however advised him to implore care in his dealings with others. Dr. Cordelia Ebenebe also rendered songs to the VC. While a student of the Faculty sang the Faculty song.

Also present were members of the University Management, Professors, Deans, HODs, lecturers and students.

The Pre-Science Unit, UNIZIK presented gift items to the Vice-Chancellor during a send forth organized by the Unit in honour of the VC.While welcoming them, the Vice- Chancellor Prof. Boniface C. Prof. Egboka stated that the programme has been of immense help to Students, and that it prepares them for the task ahead. He

also commended them for devoting their time and energy in teaching the students.Speaking earlier, the Director, Pre-Science Unit, Prof. Maduabuchi Dukor thanked the VC for his kind heartedness and awesome support to the Unit. room, kitchen, and one of the rooms in the hostel. In his reply to a question by the delegates on how the University was able to achieve such a project, Arc. Damian Oduche said it was through Public-Private Partnership as contained in the memorandum of

understanding between Elamada Incorporated Brampton Ontario, Canada, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University.It is worthy to note that the Elamada Hostel has continued to attract positive attention from other universities, thus confirming the forsight behind executing such a project.

Another mark has been made by the University, as the University Bursar, Rev. U.J Agu receives a plaque Award as the Best Bursar in the South East Universities, in the aspect of Financial Management. The award was presented by the Financial Review Initiative, an NGO based in Abuja, which focuses on the South East to discover change agents in society. According to them, reports have shown that Rev. Agu has done well in transforming financial management in the University, in terms of students’ fees and dues, staff, contractors, etc. Also, he has been seen to be direct to financial issues.

Hence, the NGO thought it wise to present the award to encourage him.Speaking in his office recently during an interview with the Financial Review Initiative, the Bursar said he did not know how it all came about, but he has always done his best in the discharge of his duty. He however expressed his gratitude to God, and to the NGO, and promising not to relent.

As part of efforts towards policy implementation, monitoring and quality control for national development, the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University has organised the sixth Annual International Conference with the theme the ''The Humanities , Quality Control, Policy Implementation and Nation Building''.The Conference is meant to seek solutions to some national issues bedeviling the country which include the Boko Haram insurgence, fake and counterfeit products that flood the markets, security challenges amongst others.The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Boniface C. Prof. Egboka said he highly appreciated the Security Department for discharging their duty diligently and urged them to make more effort in improving academically. It is a great advantage for one to work in the University.

The Chief Security Officer, Lawrence Okeke said it is a thing of joy to start a journey very well and end it with a sense of fulfillment. He thanked Prof. Egboka at the enormous achievements and contributions he made towards the advancement of Security Department as a veritable instrument for the actualization of University policies. He went further to say it was a historical tenure, who came, saw and conquered and that Prof. Egboka has written his name on the sands of time and prayed God to elevate him to a higher responsibility.

Also speaking was Chairperson of the Welfare, Security Department Mrs. A. Anike described Prof. Egboka as a wonderful father with heart of gold and expressed their profound gratitude for all his support to the Department which changed them from Analog to Digital. She prayed God to bless him in his future endeavors.

The Director, Physical Planning, Arc. Oduche appreciated the former VC for the good work he did in the University and that he was proud to have associated with him.

In his vote of thanks, Mr. P. Ngene thanked the outgoing VC for all his assistance and prayed for God to proud strengthen and protect him. Highlight of the occasion was presentation of gift by DPP Unit, Security Department and SAP Unit.

“REGISTRARY UNIT SENSITIVE PART OF THE UNIVERSITY” PROF. EGBOKA The Registrary Unit is a very sensitive part in the University which need highly disciplined personnel to work there. This statement of fact was made by former VC, Prof. Boniface C. E. Egboka during a send forth organized by the Registrary Unit. THE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING HOLDS CONFERENCE, HONOUR’S PROF. GORDIAN EZEKWEThe Faculty of Engineering held its 2014 Memorial Lecture in honour of the late Prof. Gordian Obumneme Ezekwe.

The Chairman of the event Prof. A.I. Ofodile said in his opening remark that the lecture was aimed to give honour to whohonour is due. He said that Prof. Ezekwe produced the first set of Chemical Engineers in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He also maintained a well equipped workshop and studio where he produced prototype and numerous machines in Nigeria.

In his lecture, the Keynote Speaker and the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo OON said it is amuch known engineer of great repute. Speaking of infrastructure, Prof. Nebo said Nigeria is seen as the giant of Africa, and would even be rated higher if the necessary infrastructure is put in place. Again, he went on, there is a dire need to encourage the youth through infrastructural development, bold initiative in technology, advance manufacturing skill, business management etc. To actualize positive result, he said it requires infrastructure, higher education, good market efficiency, financial market development, market size, innovations, health facilities, human capacity in terms of knowledge and skill which will in turn determine availability of infrastructure. Hence, addressing the lingering issues facing infrastructure is very important, so as to provide appropriate solutions.

In his welcome address, the VC Prof. B.C.E Egboka who was represented by the Dean, PG School Prof. Luke Anike welcomed the Hon. Minister on behalf of the university. He said the lecture was a major event. He acknowledged the contributions by the late Ezekwe to the teaching of engineering and the development of engineering practice in Nigeria. He said the choice of Prof. Nebo as the keynote speaker for the conference was apt, as he has been a teacher of engineering for years, and a VC of two universities; University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), and Federal University Oye-Ekiti.

In her address, the Dean of the faculty Prof. P.K. Igbokwe said Prof. Ezekwe has left a legacy which the faculty is proud of, and hopeful that the lecture will help to refresh. She said as Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Ezekwe conceptualized engineering infrastructure, a building block for sustainable infrastructural development of the country hence, she said, that he is worthy of any accolade that can possibly be given to great men and achievers who through sincere and honest service endeared themselves to people. She expressed her thanks to the Hon. Minister who she said has certain things in common with Prof. Ezekwe and to the VC for his assistance and support to the faculty.

The wife of the late Prof. Gordian read a letter of appreciation from her son Mr. Chinweuba David Ezekwe to the faculty and the University for acknowledging the late father.In his vote of thanks Prof. I.O. Onyeyilisaid that after listening to the Hon. Minister and the Dean, it’s obvious that the late Prof. Ezekwe made an indelible mark to the nation. He said

The Faculty presented a plaque award to the Honourable Minister, the VC, and the wife of the late Prof. Ezekwe. After this, everyone proceeded to the Faculty building where the Hon. Minister unveiled Prof. Gordian Ezekwe’s bust.

CONCERNED FRIENDS OF FACULTY OF ARTS BIDS PROF EGBOKA FARWELLConcerned friends of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Boniface Egboka recently held a send off party in honour of the Vice Chancellor for his laudable and remarkable achievements in the past six years of Administration.

The chairman of the event Emeritus Prof. Dan Agu while speaking expressed satisfaction over the good works of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor. He commended him for his attitude to students especially students first philosophy where students are given preferential treatment and considered first before staff of the University.

Prof Agu while congratulating the outgoing Vice-Chancellor stressed that a good leader is bound to face challenges.

Also Emeritus Prof. Rob Egwuatu commended Prof. Egboka for the infrastructural development witnessed in his administration and pray God to grant him good health and every good things of life.

Prof. Nkechi Nwokoye in her good will message thanked the outgoing academic icon for his fatherly disposition. She described him as a man with a good heart, humble and a listening father.Other staff who spoke were the Head of Department English and Literature Dr Emma Ezeani, Prof Tina Okoye amongst others.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Egboka expressed appreciation for the honour done him. He advised staff and students to be leaders worthy of emulation. He called on all to always make forgiveness their watch word. Prof Egboka thanked staff and students of the University for their Co-operation all through his period of Administration. He urged professors in the university to be good ambassadors of the university.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of gift items by concerned members of the Faculty, Departments and individuals.

PROF EGBOKA DECLARED LEGAL MAN OF THE YEARThe Vice-Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University Prof. Boniface C E. Egboka has been declared the legal man of the year. This declaration was made at a special valedictory session and formal opening of the legal year organised by the student union executive in honour of the Vice Chancellor.

The Student Union Chief Judge, Justice I.A Muoneme said the award is geared towards expressing gratitude to the UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor for his achievements and invaluable contribution towards Student Unionism, for being a crusader for equity and advocate of justice. According to the contractor, Nwokocha said that the hall has 1,000 seating capacity and thanked Prof. Egboka for the legacies.

Over twenty (20) pupils of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Nursery/Primary School Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State visited Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka on Wednesday, 28th of May, 2014 on an Excursion. They visited such places like the University Library, Afrihub (ICT Centre), Elmada Hostel, Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Faculty of Law, UNIZIK 94.1FM, Medical Centre, Music Department, UNIZIK Primary School, Faculty of Engineering Building, Faculty of Education, Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, University Tower, University Auditorium major roads on Campus.

On his impression about the visit, the Proprietor of the School, Pastor Olabimitan B. B. said that it was an excellent outing. He further stated that God perfected everything with the beautiful background work.

In another development, the Co-ordinator of the Excursion Engineer Deacon Olaitan Samuel (JP) said that the excursion was very wonderful and educative. He however stressed that they will support the University through prayers and otherwise.

On their impressions, three pupils of the School were allowed to bare their minds. Divine Ejikeme, a Primary Three pupil of the School said that UNIZIK is beautiful. On his future career, he said that he would like to become a lawyer. Little Miss. Abuchioma Onwuasoigwe, who is a Primary Two pupil of the School said that she would like to become a doctor. Moreso, Chikamso Obidike, a Primary Three pupil of the school said that UNIZIK is fine. I want to be a lawyer.

The pupils left the School with heart full of joy, praying God to be given another opportunity to visit the University.

Ahead of the 2014 distribution of Christmas package, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities UNIZIK branch (SSANU), Comrade Njelita Louis O. has called on members to confirm from their pay slips of the deduction of N350.00 (Three hundred and fifty Naira) welfare deductions monthly.

The Chairman, who expressed this sadness over the activities of some members in the distribution of the 2013 Christmas package insisted that it will not be business as usual this time around. He warned that anyone without evidence of deduction of welfare check off in his/her pay slips will not benefit from the 2014 package. He urged members to exercise patience over the payment of the balance of Earned Allowances as the nation is passing through a terrible security problem. 8th June 2014: Outing Service at Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Nibo Zonal Head Quarters Nibo.

Mr. Joseph Enyeobi Aniekwe (a.k.a Ilogbuchi) which took place on 25th of April, 2014. Until his death, he was the husband of Mrs. Anekwe Mercy Chukwado, Faculty of Medicine, College of Health Sciences Nnewi Campus. Burial and funeral ceremony will take place on 5th of June, 2014 at his compound Ocha-n-Nnachi village Awuda, Nnobi in Idemili South LGA Anambra State.
