This session will introduce a framework from which to build and manage a supplier relationship management program. SRM — a process utilized to facilitate supplier’s interactions. The more you know about your carrier’s cost and pricing practices, the better you can negotiate a fair price. How do you know if a car-rier’s discount gives you favorable, or even fair, net prices? Is that fuel surcharge also fair—or even accurate? Why is the cost of fuel so much more important to a truckload carrier than to an LTL carrier or intermodal provider? Are accessorial charges really the place where carrier profits are made? In this workshop, explore the answers to these questions, as well as study the major cost elements, which support each transportation mode. Learn how and where to find car-rier cost information and also which prices are negotiable in today’s environment and which ones are not. At the end, you will learn how to protect your company against unfavorable freight rate changes and emerge with the tools and knowledge needed to deal with car-riers in today’s sellers’ market.

In today’s changing world, it is important to avoid “a check-the-box and forget it” approach to supply continuity planning. This session discusses new approaches and tools and encourages continually improving supply/business continuity planning. This includes identi-fying supply chain risk outliers, adopting standards and certifications that address supply risk, and taking a more proactive approach to the continuity planning process. Discussions will focus on two global standards, ISO 22301 and ISO 28000. To quote Will Rogers, “Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.”

Track 2Ethics, Compliance and Business Conduct — What Do They Mean For Me and My Suppliers?Kenneth Martin JD, CPP, CIPN

Does your organization operate in an ethical, legally compliant, and professional manner? Does it require suppliers to commit to your code of ethics and to promote the same high standards in their supply chains? Since the 1980s, many forces have combined to bring about a strong focus on ethics, compliance, and business conduct by virtually every organization. These typically result in a written policy or code that sets standards for conduct that regulate business transactions and create mechanisms for addressing viola-tions. This session will cover the purpose and content of ethics poli-cies and codes, commonly encountered ethical dilemmas, the legal and business consequences of violations, and the applicability of these standards to your suppliers and the supply chain. The legal and contractual business standard of “good faith and fair dealing” will be defined and explained, as well as the role of organizations such as the Ethics & Compliance Officers Association, the Defense Industry Initiative, the U.S. Sentencing Commission, and Transpar-ency International.

Track 3How to Lower Your Equipment Rental Costs by One-Third- Paradigm ShiftMark Bishop, CPSM and Gordon McDonald

This session explores cost drivers, effective cost reduction tech-niques, standard tools, cost analysis and other key factors in implementing an equipment management program. Learn what techniques are most effective to pull these cost levers and get an overview of the available technology, from web-based reporting to ERP integration. Discussion will also include management by excep-tion techniques and a debate on multiple sourcing versus partnering with a preferred supplier.

Purchasing professionals often follow the practice of adding SOW and specification terms to their standard goods and services contract, then negotiate any supplier changes, and submit it to the legal department as required; and consider the end result a good contract. However, the standard contract is designed to buy goods and services when what you want to be buying is per-formance results. A legal department approved contract may in fact still provide endless headaches for purchasing professionals because they are mostly looking for things that have little or no bearing on performance results. In this session, you will learn the difference between buying goods and services versus buying per-formance results; and which clauses are targets for being modi-fied to enable this transition, as well as in what ways you should modify them. Transportation expert George and legal contracts expert Ken — will offer insights with emphasis on the special elements and contract provisions peculiar to transportation and logistics management services. They will then examine what constitutes breach of contract, when service failures become partial or full breaches, and which remedies are available and appropriate in today’s transportation marketplace. This ses-sion will be advice on how to proactively avoid or mitigate service failures which could lead to breaches. Next, you will look at specific areas of concern with carriers including: assignment of contracts, bankruptcy and the definition of temporary inability to perform. About Our Speakers

MARK BISHOP, CPSM is the director of Managed Services at United Rentals where his department develops and supports industry-leading web-based and mobile technology to help cus-tomers more effectively manage equipment rentals, and achieve significant reductions in rental cost through better management of planning, execution, and process optimization. Bishop’s current role includes development, sales and marketing, and serving as a subject matter expert. He obtained his MBA in supply chain man-agement from the University of Houston in 2005, and CPSM desig-nation in 2009. Bishop’s undergraduate degree is in mathematics. Prior to coming to United Rentals in 2010, he served in several procurement roles in Shell Oil Company, including procurement manager for Maintenance Services, procurement process improve-ment manager, and procurement manager for Car Care consumer products. Mark is a past president of NAPM― Bay Area (2009-2011).

RITA CARDENAS, C.P.M., A.P.P, CPCP, CTM is the vice president, senior relationship manager with BMO Financial Group, Treasury & Payment Solutions managing strategic and global corporate card commercial accounts since 2001. Prior to joining BMO, she was a commodity manager for Compaq Computer Corporation overseeing implementation of direct ship programs and sub-contract manufacturing. She also spent 10 years as the purchasing manager for the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Cardenas is a long-time member of ISM, previously serving on the Board of Directors of ISM, director of the Southwest Supply Chain Forum, and chair of the Minority Business Group. She is a member of the National Association of Purchasing Card Profes-sionals, serving on The Global Advisory Committee as well as a CPCP (Certified Purchasing Card Professional). Cardenas holds a lifetime C.P.M. and an A.P.P. certification. She is a Certified Toast-master (CTM), holding a BS from Stephen F. Austin University and an executive MBA from Houston Baptist University.

RON EMERY, C.P.M. has had a distinguished career encompassing all components of the supply chain as a senior executive with a diverse background in materials management, strategy formula-tion, logistics, customer service, fulfillment, global strategic supply chain, procurement, sales and operational planning, project man-agement and engineering. Emery runs an active consulting organi-zation focused on process and supply chain optimization as well as a manufacturer’s representative’s agency that focuses on process technologies that can dramatically improve your business. His line experiences of more than 20 years include an executive position as vice president global supply chain and chief procurement officer for a $2 billion manufacturer of diversified manufactured goods; vice president global sourcing for a $2.5 billion global manufac-turer of mining equipment; and as director global commodity management for a major manufacturer in the EMS space. With broad experience in consulting, Emery holds a Master’s degree in materials management and has completed some work toward a Ph.D. in management.

HENRY GARCIA, CPSM, C.P.M., A.P.P. is an experienced univer-sity instructor and a veteran trainer in various areas of purchasing and supply management as well as finance and project manage-ment- related subjects. Prior to founding Asentrene in 2003, a minority-owned consulting and training firm, Garcia had more than 40 years of business experience. For his last two assignments, he was the director of materials management and, subsequently,

the director of administration for Southwest Research Institute, an independent, nonprofit, applied engineering and physical sciences research and development organization serving public and private sector clients. Garcia is past president of the National Purchasing Institute, Inc., the Institute for Supply Management—San Antonio, Inc., and the Alamo-PMI, the local chapter of the Project Manage-ment Institute. He has served as director for the National Asso-ciation of Purchasing Managers (now ISM®) and was the national chairman for the State and Local Buyers Group, the Federal Acqui-sition and Subcontract Management Group, and the Certification Committee. The National Purchasing Institute, Inc. presented to Garcia the Special Award for Outstanding Service. At the local, dis-trict, and national levels of the National Association of Purchasing Managers (now ISM®), he received the Conway L. Holmes and James H. Liberman Awards, the Harold M. Cosgrove Outstanding Purchasing Management Award, and the President’s Award and the J. Shipman Gold Medal, respectively.

OMID GHAMAMI, MBA is president and chief consultant, Pur-chasing Advantage and an adjunct professor of purchasing at Folsom Lake College, CA. Ghamami has 17 years’ experience at Intel Corp, holding responsibility for $750 million in annual expen-ditures as a senior purchasing manager, and also holding respon-sibility for global purchasing operations. He has broad experience in negotiations, total cost analysis, supply chain management, pur-chasing contract law, purchasing operations management, devel-opment and management of purchasing policies and procedures, controls and risk management, selection and wide scale deploy-ment of purchasing systems/tools, mergers and acquisitions inte-gration, and purchasing strategy mapping and execution. Author of Purchasing Advantage–Running a World Class Purchasing Organization and numerous ISM publications, Ghamami holds an MBA from the University of California and has taught courses, workshops, and seminars in 10 different countries.

JIM HAINING, CPSM, CPSD, C.P.M., A.P.P. has more than 27 years’ experience in supply management in both the public and private sectors. He is employed by Clark County Nevada in Las Vegas, Nevada. Former employers include Sprint, Sierra Pacific Power Company and Insituform Technologies. He is also president of JDH Management, a supply chain management firm. Haining has been a workshop presenter for several years at the ISM Inter-national Supply Management Conference, ISM Southwest Forum’s Supply Management Conference and the ISM Indirect/Services Conference. He received his BS from Brigham Young University and MBA from University of Phoenix. JOHN HAZARD, C.P.M., CPP is an educator, practitioner and consultant specializing in the training of supply chain profes-sionals. He started his material management career at Texas Instruments and moved to Dell Computer when it was still a start-up company. Hazard has a unique knowledge as a result of his wide range of experience, going from a large global firm to a very small company that had an exceptional growth rate, which became a large, very profitable and extremely high volume firm. He has negotiated many multi-million dollar contracts at both firms. He has been an Instructor for Nahabit & Associates, Inc. since 1999 teaching a wide range of subjects in purchasing and supply chain management. His expertise is in the areas of mechanical and electronic parts and assemblies with a broad range of experience in supply chain management for both domestic and international suppliers. Hazard is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration and finance.

MINDY HOLDEN is Green Belt and DFSS certified. She is the chief procurement officer and vice president real estate accounts payable for Direct Energy which she joined in 2012. In this role, Holden is responsible for direct and indirect spending for all third-party (non-commodity) procurement as well as policy, compliance, reporting, etc. She and her team also manage the real estate portfolio and strategy for Direct Energy. Holden recently assumed responsibilities for accounts payable where she is focused on integrating leading practices in this function. Prior to joining Direct Energy, she was responsible for category and supplier management for the Tennessee Valley Authority where she led a team to create a leading practice category management model. They were responsible for developing long-term strategies, man-agement of the supply base including risk mitigation, ongoing improvement in cost, demand management, and supplier man-agement. KENNETH D. MARTIN, J.D., CPP, CIPN has more than 40 years of experience as a legal and business manager and advisor regarding all aspects of government and commercial contracts, domestic and international purchase transactions, and other busi-ness agreements. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the Duquesne University School of Law. He is an executive consultant with CATTAN Services Group and achieved practical and substantive acquisition expertise as Vice President, Contracts and Compliance and as Director, Contracts and Counsel for Ham-ilton Sundstrand Corporation (a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation) and as Aerospace Counsel for Sundstrand Corpo-ration, where he provided legal support and business advice to business operations. Previously, he served as Manager, legal and data administration, Sundstrand; Division Counsel, Morton Thiokol, Inc.; chief, Adversary Proceedings Div. and contracts attorney-advisor, U.S. Army CECOM; general counsel, U.S. Navy MSCLANT; chief counsel, U.S. Army CORADCOM; and counsel, TRW, Inc.

Dr. RANDALL MAULDIN, DBA, CPSM, PMP - As a dynamic and analytical leader equipped with more than 20 years of combined success within various capacities as an entrepreneurial consultant and in the United States Marine Corps, Mauldin has provided executive guidance and strategic direction in operations, supply chain management, program management, and logistics. He is an award winning published self-starter with experience building and leading effective multi-disciplinary teams to execute strategy and accomplish organizational goals. Mauldin is president and founder of Jack Quinn Solutions, LLC, a management consultation firm involved in providing objective advice, expertise and spe-cialist skills with the aim of creating value, maximizing growth, and improving the business performance of clients. Mauldin founded the Certified Professional in Supply Management® (CPSM®) Boot Camp for candidates seeking the certified professional in supply management certification provided by the Institute of Supply Man-agement. Attendees of this course come from such companies as AARP, Rockline Industries, Harley Davidson, Miller Coors, Brown-Forman, Johnson Controls, and ITT.

GORDON MCDONALD - In 2012, following the merger of RSC Equipment Rental with United Rentals, McDonald became the vice president of managed services at United Rentals. His more than 30 years’ experience with industrial tool rental and supply operations include 15 years with RSC and 23 years with Indus-trial Air Tool, an RSC acquisition. While with RSC, he served in field and corporate management positions, including regional manager for industrial on-site operations, and director of man-aged services, and was instrumental in advancing the company’s software applications design. In 2008, he was appointed RSC vice president of managed services. McDonald is the inventor of Total Control, a proprietary web-based software designed to help cli-ents use technological advancements to more effectively manage the equipment and tool rental process, resulting in substantial cost savings. This product is currently used by more than a hun-dred Fortune 500 customers in the manufacturing, chemicals and petroleum industries.

RICHARD (RICK) MCFEE is director of supply chain management for Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. McFee has more than 38 years of hospital purchasing and supply chain experience.

Prior to Texas Children’s Hospital, he was with the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston for more than 24 years most recently serving as their associate vice president for opera-tions, where he was responsible for support services including logistics and purchasing, food services, environmental services, patient transportation, records management, and biomedical engineering. He also served UTMB as assistant vice president for operations and executive director and as director of materials management. McFee has served previously as director of mate-rials management for both Georgetown University Hospital and the Southern Maryland Hospital Center. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Frostburg State University and is a licensed paramedic.

ANNE MCGURTY started her own corporate consulting business, Strategize & Organize after years in the corporate world working with Merrill Lynch, MetLife, Encoda Systems, Message Media (aka Double Click), and Neiman Marcus. McGurty is the CEO and founder and a pioneer in the Organization and Productivity industry and has enjoyed many successes over her 20 years of experience in procurement: saving over $1 million for a software company in four months, increasing productivity for Denver Water by 100% for 20 key staff members, and coaching the CEO of US Oncology who was responsible for a staff of 200. She works with clients globally, virtually and in person and offers do-it-yourself learning programs as well as custom private coaching to fit your needs. McGurty graduated from Katharine Gibbs School and the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in information systems. McGurty’s corporate background, combined with her experience as a professional business process consultant, keynote speaker and trainer brings actionable techniques and tools to the table.

JAN MILLER is an ISM® vice president, responsible for member-ship and for affiliate, Group and Forum support. Her area has prin-cipal responsibility for all assistance provided to, organizational training tools provided for, and serving as the primary liaison between ISM’s affiliates, Groups and Forums. Miller serves as staff contact for the Affiliate, Groups and Forums Relationship Com-mittee, and the Leadership Training Workshop Committee. Miller is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the ISM Leadership-Training Program annually, including planning training content. Her responsibilities also include member benefits and oversight of the Journal of Supply Chain Management. She is a frequent and popular speaker for ISM affiliates and the Annual Southwest Supply Management Conference.

MICKEY NORTH RIZZA is a game-changing leader delivering shareholder value. She was recently recognized as one of the top female supply chain leaders. North Rizza currently works for Bra-voSolution as vice president strategic services where she assists clients in the navigation of their journey to supply management excellence. Prior to her current position, North Rizza spent seven years as a leading and award winning supply chain analyst for Gartner and AMR Research. North Rizza’s 22 years of practitioner supply chain heritage provided the bases for her successes to date. NORBERT ORE, CPSM, C.P.M. is director and head of industry surveys for Strategas Research Partners, a research firm special-izing in economics, policy research, and technical analysis. He is also a senior consultant with ADR North America, an ISM Services Company, providing consulting and training services to Fortune 500 companies. He is an acknowledged expert in purchasing and supply management having attained CPSM and C.P.M. status. Additionally, he is a winner of the prestigious J. Shipman Gold Medal, which is presented annually by the Institute for Supply Management for leadership and service in the field. Ore is best known for his work as the chair of the Manufacturing Business Survey Committee of the Institute for Supply Management® (ISM®). For 16 years, he served as chair of the committee, a posi-tion which gave him responsibility for compiling, writing, and releasing the ISM® Report on Business®, the monthly economic report recognized as a leading indicator of the U.S. economy.

TAMMY RIMES is a principal in her own firm, Tammy Rimes Con-sulting, where she assists cities, counties and local governments develop new ideas and strategies to drive savings and efficien-cies. Rimes served as the purchasing agent for the City of San Diego, the nation’s 9th largest City, during a time of tremendous challenges: 2007 Witch Creek Fires; the Mt. Soledad landslide; and first-time centralization of all contracting operations. Two of her high profile successes were to implement the City’s first envi-ronmentally preferred purchasing polices and lead a restructuring program that reduced City warehousing, saving $1.4M in the first year. The City of San Diego won the National Procurement Institute Achievement in Excellence Award every year during her leadership. As a speaker, she energizes purchasing teams with inspirational ways to help motivate their teams, handle complex procurements, and be ready for emergencies. Outside of the pur-chasing world, Rimes and her husband own a winery and horse ranch–Hacienda de las Rosas–with a wine and beer tasting room in historic Old Town, San Diego.

STUART ROSENBERG is president and founder of SRose Lean Six Sigma Solutions, a supply chain and lean six sigma implemen-tation firm. His prior operational experience was with Cadbury, Reckitt Benckiser and Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, a Johnson & Johnson firm, and Linde Gas. Rosenberg enjoys a regional reputa-tion as a subject matter expert, consultant and published author in supply chain management and lean six sigma disciplines. He is accomplished in use of optimization models to determine least cost facilities and drill down to workflow details in support of process and profit management. Rosenberg has implemented new programs–innovative cycle count program, safety stock methodology, obsolete inventory programs, LEAN and Six Sigma solutions–all bringing verifiable returns to companies. Rosenberg holds a Bachelor of Arts in accounting from the City University of New York and is white and green belt certified in Lean Six Sigma. He is a respected writer, who has lectured and conducted presen-tations at various professional associations and societies.

GEORGE YARUSAVAGE, C.P.M., CTL, CPIM, CISCM has held a number of transportation, logistics, and purchasing manage-ment positions in his 39-year career. Currently, he is a principal in Fortress Consulting and an executive consultant with CATTAN Services Group. Yarusavage serves as the ISM’s Logistics and Transportation Group’s treasurer and the chairman of the Amer-ican Society of Transportation and Logistics. His most recent posi-tions include North American manager of logistics for M-real USA; manager of transportation procurement for Verizon Wireless; and director of technical logistics for NBC Olympics, where he won an Emmy for his work in the 2000 Sydney Games and established the first NBC Olympics Technical Logistics Department. Yarusavage also was part of the GE corporate transportation staff and his career spans service with NBC Corporate; GTE Corporation; Gen-eral Electric Company Corporate; and Continental Forest Indus-tries. He has been a frequent speaker at national, regional, and local CSCMP, AST&L, and ISM meeting events and conferences.
