PROSPECTUS – 2012

IT is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to the candidateswho intend to compete for admissions to various courses

offered by our University during the academic year2012-13.

IUST, appeared on the academic horizon of J&K Statesix years ago, and in a short span of its existence it is emergingas a quality institution with enough potential to contributesignificantly and qualitatively to higher education scenario inthe State. Well planned strategy coupled with persistent andmotivated efforts from all the stake holders have enabled it toget due recognition.

We plan to increase the intake capacity in existing coursesand institute further demand-driven courses to contribuite forincreasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) of the State. From this year we are starting two new courses in School ofTechnology namely B.Tech Electrical Engineering and MSc IT.While we improve quantity, we ensure that quality does notsuffer at all. In that direction, besides augmenting our ownresources, we are in touch with other sister institutions forcooperation to promote academic excellence. The universityhas signed a tripartite MoU with University of Delhi and

University of Kashmir on 20 th

October 2011 in the benign presenceof Mr Omar Abdullah, Hon’ble ChiefMinister, Chancellor IUST who hasbeen a constant source of inspirationto us. Besides, we have signed variousMemoranda of Understanding(MoU) and entered into academicarrangements with other national andinternational institutions like TokyoUniversity of Foreign Studies, Japan, Shiv Nadar University,Noida, etc

We are also in continuous process of developingrelationship with the corporate world and are in constant touchwith the companies and industries for trainings, internshipsand placement of our students. I am grateful to various Nationalinstitutions like PAU Ludhiana, CIPHET Ludhiana, GNDUAmritsar, NDRI Karnal for their support in this regard. Ourefforts to develop relation with corporate world got invigoratedwith the support of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII )which enabled our students undergo trainings and internshipsin world class companies across the country.

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

During the year 2011-2012 there was a markedimprovement in the revenue generation through student fee.The State Government and WAKF Board also reasonablyfunded the university during this period for infrastructuraldevelopment which I thankfully acknowledge. This has enabledthe university to start construction of two academic blocksand the construction of OBC hostel is in the anvil. To ensureconstant flow of funds to the University for Development,UGC is persistently being pursued to get the university listedunder 12(b) of the UGC Act.

For economically underprivileged students, AICTEapproved fee waiver scheme has been put in place from theyear 2011-12. Besides, the university vigorously pursues thevarious scholarship programmes enabling 103 students to getscholarships from agencies like Ministry of Minority Affairs,Social Welfare Department and Indian Oil Corporation.

Feedback from the experts who have interacted with ourstudents within or outside the University stand testimony tothe fact that IUST has managed to earn a name as a seat oflearning where academic standards are high and qualityeducation is paramount. I am sure that in view of the supportand encouragement that we are getting from the StateGovernment, WAKF Board, Universities and other educationalinstitutional across the country in general and J&K State inparticular, IUST will become one of the best universities inthe country in the years to come.

I, once again, welcome all the students who succeed ingetting admission to our University. I also wish all the best toour students who will complete their academic programmesthis year and hope that they will prove valuable assets for thesociety and make IUST family proud.
