ISHKS UPDATE Newsletter of the Indian Society of Hip & Knee Surgeons 2015 Vol. 2, Issue. 1 It gives me great pleasure and honor to continue the legacy of Indian Society of Hip and Knee Surgeons (ISHKS) update in the second edition of our ISHKS newsletter. A simple breakfast meeting of 26 likeminded Arthroplasty surgeons from across the country with clear objectives and motivation started the beginning of our society's journey. There was great enthusiasm & cemented ship among all 26 founder members. Cheque of 25000 Indian rupees was written by each of us towards the core fund. The aim was to start a vibrant society promoting Education, Research, Indian Joint Registry and Care of Arthritis & give strong position for the surgeons of our country to be taken notice by the rest of the world. All the members of the committees and governing bodies are nominated and formal elections are done away with most decisions on crucial issues have been on mutual agreement& consensus. The proof of the progressively increasing impact an appreciation of the quality of activities of this society is reflected in the invitation from the Indian Journal of Orthopedics for a special issue on Arthroplasty from ISHKS member group publishing their research work in the journal. It also gives me great pleasure and honor to invite you for our forth coming 9th annual that is ISHKS 2015 Annual Congress at the Iconic Hotel “THE TAJ MAHAL PALACE” from April 10-12, 2015. Two Landmark Achievements of ISHKS IN 2014
ISHKS Delegation at American Association of Hip & Knee Society Meeting
ISHKS collaboration with Australian Joint Replacement registry (AOANJRR)
American Association of Hip & Knee Society – Invitation to Indian Hip & knee Association
One of the mile stone of ISHKS is the invitation from AAHKS. The efforts were started by Dr S.V. Vaidya who was the first member of AAHKS from India. This invitation was forwarded to the president of ISHKS to attend International committee meeting. The main agenda of the meeting was to have a joint venture between the two associations for conducting various activities related to Hip & Knee arthritis. This meeting was attended by various International reputed surgeons from other part of the world, to name the few are Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China etc. The chairman of the meeting was Dr. William J. Maloney. Dr. J. A. Pachore suggested during the meeting that there should be a platform for the International surgeons to present their work during annual AAHKS meeting. This was welcome by the committee and they will decide after their executive board discussion. There was a fair degree of positive response from the International committee. This international forum will be a platform to represent our experience. The news letters of AAHKS quote as
Indian Hip and Knee Society Represented
“Founding member of the Indian Society of Hip & Knee Surgeons (ISHKS), Javahir A. Pachore MD of Ahmedabad and H.P.C. Khincha, MD, FRCS of Bangalore, attended the AAHKS Annual meeting for the first time. Dr. Khincha is a founding member and Education Chair. They were invited to attend the meeting as part of an outreach by the AAHKS International Committee. Dr. Pachore and Dr. Khincha presented William J. Maloney, MD, Chair of the International Committee and Brain S. parsley, MD, AAHKS president, with the gift of a plaque announcing the new relationship between our organizations. “We are most impressed with the papers, presentation and the quality of the scientific content at this meeting, and we look forward to coming again” Dr. Pachore remarked. “

International Collaborations
ISHKS – Associate member of International Society of Arthroplasty Registry (ISAR)
ISHKS has become an associate member of International Society of Arthroplasty registry (ISAR). ISAR is emerging as a central body for joint registry in the world. At preset it has only 12 permanent members who have more than 90% compliance level for their data and rest has joined as an associate members. This is one of the recent achievements that ISHKS has obtained since it has been formed. Central collection of data would be the future to do justice to the Arthroplasty community to have exchange of data's among v a r i o u s r e g i s t r i e s . Registry has the only tool which can predict the trend of the joint performance. The new concept of patient performance is emerging though ISAR in near future w h i ch c a n b e n e f i t individual Arthroplasty surgeon. ISHKS data will be presented at Gothenburg ISAR meeting in May 2015.
T h e y e a r 2 0 1 4 h a s been a g o o d year for ISHKS. W e started o f f
with a very successful well attended conference at Pune organized by Dr Parag Sancheti and Dr Hemant Wakankar. In this one year, we have made significant efforts to overcome the teething troubles we have had with the new ISHKS joint replacement structured course which is slated to start by June 2015. In the meanwhile, in an effort to not lose our focus on imparting quality training to surgeons in Joint replacement surgery, we have continued with our usual fellowship program for this year and admitted 4 fellows under various consultants in various centres in India, arranged by the sincere efforts of our Fellowship chair, Dr Milind Patil.
We have also welcomed 64 new members to our society. We wish the new members a long and fruitful association with the society and only wish they would contribute as much as they would take away in terms of knowledge and experience. Our registry program has been making g reat str ides under the able stewardship of our founder president, Dr Pachore. It is a matter of pride that our registry has been now accepted for accreditation with the International Joint Replacement registry. The American Society of Hip and Knee surgeons extended a warm welcome to Our Society for their annual meeting in Dallas Texas. Our society was represented at Dallas by Dr Pachore and Dr Khincha. We wish that our partnership with AAHKS will contribute in great measure to furthering the health and quality of life of our patients who come in need of joint replacement surgery.
Thank you.

Co-operation of Australian Orthopedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry : (AOANJRR)
Another benchmark activity of ISHKS in 2014was the visit o Dr. J. A. Pachore to Australian Joint Replacement registry (AOANJRR) at Adelaide on 11th August 2014. Dr. J. A. Pachore presented the ISHKS registry important fact which has emerged during the last 6 years. Prof. Stephan Graves & Prof. Davidson who were the in-charge of Australian Joint registry appreciated ISHKS efforts in registry. They shared their grass root level experience of various guidelines to improve our data collection & maintenance of registry data. They have given various guidelines to improve our registry and their reports. They showed keen interest to support our registry venture in the form of Fellowship, Secretary training and I.T. support. They also sug ges ted var ious ways of protecting our data. The complete staff of registry was present throughout the day to give their input so that ISHKS can become a great source of information globally. The ISHKS p r e s e n t e d a p p r e c i a t i o n memento to Prof. Stephan Graves and Prof. Davidson and which was signed by 11 trustees. It quotes as:
“INDIAN SOCIETY HIP & KNEE SURGEONS (ISHKS) with their trustee, founder members & members like to appreciate the co-operation of AUSTRALIAN ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOCIATION NATIONAL JOINT REPLACEMENT REGISTRY (AOANJRR) to support the activities of the ISHKS REGISTRY”
