ISB VisionTo be an internationally top-ranked, research-
driven, independent management institution that
grooms future leaders for India and the world.
The school has formal academic associations with
the Kellogg School at Northwestern University, The
Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania and
London Business School. Of these three schools,
Kellogg and Wharton are the Founding Associate
Schools. Our association with world-class business
schools is a step to ensure that your exposure is
global. Faculty, research, student exchange and

About the Indian School of BusinessThe ISB is a triumph of the vision of globally
respected business leaders, entrepreneurs and
academicians who envisaged a school that would
emerge as an international leader in management
education.
Today, the ISB enjoys the distinction of being the
first Indian B-school to be ranked among the top 12
global business schools in the Annual MBA
Rankings 2010 by Financial Times, London. The
FT ranking is based on various parameters covering
specifics like career progress of the graduates,
diversity of experience, international alumni, idea
generation and research etc.
Over the years, the ISB's achievements have been
impressive. Student strength ramped up to 560, and
the class profile is on par with leading international
B-schools. Today, the ISB is one of the largest
providers of executive education in Asia.
The ISB's Centres of Excellence aim at promoting
research in and creating knowledge of emerging
economies. Though a focus on emerging markets
underpins all Centres, each of the following Centres
focuses on a unique discipline, as suggested by their
names:
Wadhwani Centre for Entrepreneurship
Development (WCED)
Centre for Analytical Finance (CAF)
Centre for Global Logistics and Manufacturing
Strategies (GLAMS)
Srini Raju Centre for Information Technology
and the Networked Economy (SRITNE)
Centre for Leadership, Innovation and Change
(CLIC)
Indu Centre for Real Estate and Infrastructure
(ICREI)
Centre for Emerging Markets Solutions (CEMS)
The Centres foster academic and applied research,
by working closely with the industry to evolve new
theories and innovative solutions for current
problems faced by them. The K-Hub, set up by the
WCED with the support of the Government of
Andhra Pradesh, focuses on creating high-quality
entrepreneurial ventures in select industries.

Challenging, comprehensive and global in scope, the
Post Graduate Programme in Management aims to
make the student a future ready leader with a
transnational perspective. Specially designed for
professionals with work experience, it packs in all
the inputs and learnings of a two-year programme
into one year, enabling the executive to get back to
the work place faster.
The programme emphasises holistic learning. It
provides learning opportunities through
interactions with faculty, student colleagues and
business leaders, and encourages self-learning
through reflection. The programme helps develop
managerial and leadership capabilities required for
analytical thinking and critical decision making. It
encourages integration of thinking across
disciplinary boundaries and balances the need to
operate in the local environment with capabilities to
operate globally. It is the ideal platform to recharge
and regroup before returning to the corporate world.
The courses combine theory with practice. Teaching
methods include case studies, class discussion, field
study, seminars, simulations, examinations,
independent work etc. Faculty members choose the
method most appropriate to the context and their
individual styles. You will have a full-time course
load of four to five courses in each of the four core
terms.
The one-year Post Graduate Programme in
Management starts with the Pre-term courses and
the rest of the academic year is divided into eight
terms each of five to six weeks duration. The first
four terms cover the core courses (compulsory
courses) when you learn the basics of management,
and lay the foundation for advanced electives in
later terms, i.e.. Term 5 to 8.
The last four terms offer a range of elective courses
under each concentration area. A student may opt
for a minimum of three credits and a maximum of
five credits in any elective Term. One ISB credit
comprises of course work equal to 10 sessions of two
hours each (total 20 contact hours). During the
elective terms, a student is required to enroll for a
minimum of 16 credits.
The Programme
ThePost GraduateProgramme inManagement
For the elective terms, you may take a course load of
three to five courses in each term such that your total
number of elective credits does not exceed 19. The
total number of courses you take in the academic
year cannot exceed 36 credits. The programme
places special emphasis on team-based learning, in
addition to individual effort. Consequently, every
student will be placed in a pre-defined group for the
first four terms. Each group will endeavor to raise
individual standards via collective efforts.
Your group composition is fixed across the first four
terms. However, during the elective terms you are
free to choose your own group.
The curriculum offers a wide range of elective
courses. In the last four terms, you are required to
specialise in at least one, and at most two, of the
following six concentration areas:
Finance
Entrepreneurship
Information Technology Management
Operations Management
Marketing
Strategy and Leadership
To concentrate in an area, you must complete six
credit units of coursework from amongst the elective
courses specified for that concentration. You must
finalise your concentration area(s) during term 8
registration so that your transcript can report the
declared concentrations. The responsibility to
manage and meet the requirements for a
concentration lies with the student. If a course is
cross listed across areas, the student may include it
in the concentration count only for one area.
Electives build on core courses and cannot be taken
without completing the pre-requisites.
The unique interventions of the programme are:
Spirit of team-play and leadership
Lectures, discussions, workshops and group
practice sessions
Effective listening and communication,
presentation, team building, assertiveness and
problem solving

The ISB aims to bring together people from a wide
variety of backgrounds, nationalities, education and
experience, which adds to a varied learning
experience. The common denominators are
leadership qualities, ability to work in a team,
superior academic credentials and display of
consistent intellectual prowess. Excellent written
and verbal communication skills are essential.
To be eligible, you must meet the following
requirements:
A bachelor's degree in any discipline.
Preferably two years of full-time post
qualification work experience. Exceptional
candidates with less than two years of experience
would be considered for deferred admissions.
GMAT score. Scores of the last five years are
valid.
TOEFL/ IELTS score is required only if the
language of instruction during undergraduate
education was not English.
Admissions will evaluate all applications on the
above basis. Shortlisted candidates will be
interviewed as a part of the selection process.
Preference is given to students who have
demonstrated leadership qualities in their work or
academic life. This is assessed primarily through
recommendations or references included in
the application. Students must include
recommendations from their workplace, preferably
from their direct supervisor. While most applicants
may not have had a chance to demonstrate
leadership skills at the public level, initiatives at
l
l
l
l
Leadership Potential
work or in their personal life will help the committee
assess the candidate's potential.
The ISB believes that student diversity is a very
important element of an international education.
Applicants are encouraged to describe their
backgrounds and provide details about what and
how they can contribute to the student community.
Diversity can be in the form of educational
background, work experience, nationality or
personal experiences and goals.
The programme is rigorous, and since its duration
makes it even more challenging, students must
possess a convincing academic record. Our
evaluation therefore, considers the student's
undergraduate performance. However, there is no
cut-off score. Likewise, we also assess analytical
ability based on GMAT. Here again, we do not have
a cut-off GMAT score. While a good GMAT score
helps, an average score can be compensated for by
achievements in other areas.
The ISB prefers applicants with substantial work
experience (preferably at least two years). The
diverse professional experience of students
contributes to the rich and stimulating learning in
the ISB programme. We are specifically interested in
how they have contributed to their organization or
added value to their professional roles. Successful
applicants must demonstrate managerial and
leadership potential, maturity, drive and focus.

It is mandatory for all students and their dependents living on campus
to have medical insurance. The ISB will arrange to purchase a group
medical insurance for all students and their dependents. The premium
of this will have to be paid by all students in addition to the other fees at
the time of registration.
The premium is approximately in the range of INR 1,300 to 4,000
depending on the age of the insured - these amounts are approximate
and are subject to change.
The ISB, in conjunction with several companies, offers scholarships to
deserving candidates. One in three students will receive a scholarship
ranging from Rs.2 lakhs to Rs.5 lakhs at the time of admission. The
scholarships are both need and merit based. To know more about the
same, please visit
The ISB has arrangements with leading banks to provide 100%
guaranteed loans at a concessional rate. These loans are customised for
the students of ISB and usually do not require any collateral. Only the
personal guarantee of the parents will suffice.
Please also budget for some miscellaneous expenses which may vary
depending on your needs and preferences (like schooling for children,
