Isaiah 43: 16-21

Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, who brings out chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick: Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The wild animals will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches; for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself so that they might declare my praise.

Hymn God Creates a Blessed Newness NETTLETON

God creates a blessed newness; now it springs forth, don’t you see? Come, you people of creation, gather now at God’s decree. Do not fear for God is with us, pay no heed to things of old. We are servants of the Sacred, wondrous works will we behold!

See who gathers at the table, all invited by our Lord; Varied people, many colors, all commissioned by the Word. Many ways are gospel stories shared among God’s people dear. Let us gather round the table all with eager ears to hear. Newness comes and, with it, struggle, but our tests cause us to grow. Things will change but God is present more than we could ever know. Pastoral and Offertory Prayer Seth Brown

At the conclusion of the prayer: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us. NEWS AND EVENTS Church Community Builder — How to Get Started TodayWe invite you to visit our homepage (https://www.fbcgriffin.org/) today to learn more about setting up your account with our new Church Community Builder platform. This software provides a landing spot, if you will, for communication and coordination of ministries. Setting up your account will enable you to search the church directory, communicate with groups you belong to at FBC Griffin, give online, establish and monitor your serving schedules, and more. If you would like assistance getting started, please call the church office during regular business hours or send us an email at [email protected].

Change in Online GivingIf you take advantage of online giving through FBC Griffin’s website, please know that we now use a different service called PushPay to process contributions. Please click on the “Give to FBC” button to update your information for online giving. You may also give by text message. Simply text “FBCGRIFFIN” to 77977. Follow the prompts to complete your contribution. You will have the choice to make your contribution a recurring gift during this process. Thank you for your faithfulness in supporting our church and ministries.

Covid-19 Response TeamFBC Griffin’s Covid-19 response team — consisting of church leaders and local medical professionals — meets weekly. These individuals evaluate the conditions at the church and within the community and suggest a best course of action concerning church-related activities. We will continue to update our FBC community of any changes in our response to Covid-19 through our website, email, and — if requested— regular mail.

Listening SessionThe Search Committee’s second Listening Session that was scheduled for January 10 has been postponed due to the evolving situation with Covid-19 in our community. This session will be rescheduled.

Nominating Committee Interest SurveyPlease check your email — we sent you an interest survey last week inquiring about your willingness to serve on any of our committees in 2021.

Africa Mission Trip Interest MeetingThis interest meeting is currently scheduled for January 17 for those who want to learn more about a possible 2022 mission trip to Africa. If we are able to hold this meeting, you will receive more information the week of January 11.

“If you’re grateful, you’re not fearful, and if you’re not fearful, you’re not violent. If you’re grateful, you act out of a sense

of enough and not a sense of scarcity, and you are willing to share. If you are grateful, you are enjoying the differences

between people, and you are respectful to everybody, and that changes this power pyramid under which we live.”
