• FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear lVMI Partners a nd Friends,

As you read this, I wi ll be in Elhiopia, orll:ing with-a earn cfover 00 doctors, dentists, eye surgeons,

optometrists, nu rses, evangelists and prayer warriors to help thousands o f destitute members of the vast Jewish Co mmunity remain ing in Addis Ababa and me ma umain areas of the No rth . We will be

providing medical and demal care, medicines, eyeglasses, (a laract surgery, even comea transplants! BUI mOSI importantly, we w ill be caring for lheir souls, sharing the gospel, praying with them for their spiritual a nd physical needs and plaming bOlh wrinen and audio Bibles into thei r lives.

Sillce my first trip to Eth iop ia over len years ago, these dear, impoverished Jews captured my

heart. They continue to endure a meager existence, living in depl o rable co nditio ns. They have been re jected by Israel s im ply because th ey have been identifi ed as Nralasha Mura/ converts to Christian ity. Vet the ir neighbors shun them because th ey are Jews. The Lord has m ade it clear to

me that we are committed to helping the tens of thousands thaI rema in in this terrible s ituatio n until Israel finally accepts the m fo r immigratio n or until the Messiah return s. Many of you, our

partners helped to make thi s medical outreach and the permanent medical cl in ic that we have now established in Addis Ababa possible and I thank you on their be half. Read Isaiah 58 if you want to

full y understand just how the lord feels about all this!!

The last week of rebruary, I led an advance team o n our second journey to India 1O scout out the

Bnei Menashe Co mmunity. On our firs t trip (thi s past October) we traveled to Man ipur, Indi a. This time we journeyed to Mizoram, India, just south o f Manipur along the Burma border. This

second trip was necessary due to the facl that the Kuki and Mizo tribes ( the two groups considered by many Rabb is to be descendants of the lost tribe of Menasseh) are spl it between these two areas. Our primary purpose fo r this second trip was to determine whi ch o f these two communities has

the greater need so we can begin outreach where it is most needed . At thi s po int, we are ten tatively planning to conduct o ur first Bnei Menashe medical o utreach thi s October or ea rly November.

We will keep you posted as th is develops. I am hoping that a num ber of you will jo in us for this incredible outreach experience!

We have devoted this issue of our magazine to the cominued threat Israel faces of another war with HezboJlah and perhaps even Syria or Iran. 1110se in lhe know in Is rael have told me it is no t an issue of Mif" another war will occur, but rather Nwhen" the next war will break out None of us who study the

Bible shOUld be surpri sed about everything that is laking place th ere. After all, the prophet 2£chariah proclaimed that in the Last Days, Israel would be an -immoveab le stone, W haled by the World.

To close o n a positive note, Is rael is about to celebrate her 60 th b irthday as a modern nation this

May. It was 60 years ago, o n May 14 th , 1948 that David Ben Curio n declared Israel a sovereign State. rew thought th ey would survive mo re than a few mOlllhs ... but look what the

Lord has done! The desert has bloo med a nd Israel co ntinues to grow and prosper. We will be celebrating thi s historic event this November when my

wife Elisangela and I, along with severa l local pastors fro m the Phoenix area, lead a 12-day teach ing and prayer tour thro ughout the L..l nd . I do hope you call joi nus. BUI call or wrile 50011, splICe is limiled al1d fillillg up quickly!

Page 5: Is War Imminent For Israel - Jvt - Mar Apr 2008

During the firs t th ree decades of Israel's modern existence on world maps, Iran was the on ly

regional Muslim country that had any public dealings with the Jewish State. Under Shi ite fundamenta list rule si nce the late Ayato ll ah Khomeini seized power in 1979, it is now leading a global jihad (0

annih il ate its former friend . Israeli military intelligence officials

stated in 2007 that the theocratic regime in Tehran - which cont inues to openly enrich uranium in defiance of repeated United Nation's resolutions calli ng for such action to be immediately halted- will be able to produce destructive nudear weapons by the end of 2009 at the latest. Therefore, the co ming months wi ll be critica l in thwarting Iran 's nefarious ambitions.

Various local media outlets have reported th at comprehensive military plans to derail the Iranian nuclear program are being drawn up in Israeli halls of power. While details of such plans a re naturally not being made public, it is assumed that the operation would be among the most intricate an d complicated ever ordered or undertaken by Israeli military and politica l leaders.

Realizing that th e wo rl d-renowned Israeli Air Force (IAF) will play the central rol e in any armed operation against Iran, three senior officers are vying to command the highly trained force over the next few years. With current Air Force Ch ief Elazar Shekedystepping down this April, it seems highly likely that his successor will oversee any major strike upon Iran's threatening nuclear program.

Military analysts agree that an extensive campaign against Iran's far flung nucl ea r ta rgets would undoubtedly pose the greatest challenge that any JAF commander has ever faced. The Shiite state's nuclear facilities- many heavily rein fo rced to protect them against foreign attack- are spread out over dozens of locations in most parts of the sprawling coun try, which is some six ty tim es the size of t iny Israel.

More than this, Iran's western border is over 700 miles east of Israel, with most potential military targets more than 1,000 miles away, meaning Israel i warpla nes would need to be refueled in fligh t in order to reach those targets. Many believe this could not be successfull y accom-

plished wi th out direct American ap proval, if nOl actual invo lvemenl.

Securi ty sources tell me that at least one large U.S. defense contracto r has been busy over the past year helping upgrade IAF fue l lank capaci ty 10 support such lo ng range missio ns. Sti ll , analysts agree that any massive o peration agai nst Iran ia n nuclear facilities would be extremely daun ting, if not harrowing, even with full sca le American tactical suppo rt and/or mi lita ry part icipation .

HAMA.'1 AND HITLER

Yet the apparen t need for an IAF campaign against Iran is mOTe than obvious to most Israelis, given that extremist Ira nian President Ma hmoud Ahmad inejad has made it abundantly clear that his country has no intention of halting its urani um enrichment program, nor its production of long range, North Ko rean designed missi les capable of attacki ng targets thro ughout Israel and the Middle East.

Officials in Jerusalem had ho ped that George W. Bush would order an American military assault againsl lran before he leaves office in Ja nuary 2009. I lowever that possi bili ty seemed to disappea r when 16 U.S. Intell igence age ncies issued a report last December slating "wi th high confidence" tha t Iran had halted its nuclear weapon's program in 2003.

Israeli officia ls agree that the cl andesti ne program was frozen soon after US and British fo rces toppled Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq in March of that year, but add that they possess incontrovertible evidence that it was restarted again in late 2005. Therefore, the task of thwarting Iran's declared goal of wi ping the reborn Jewish State off of (he wo rl d map will seemingly fa ll on Israel's shoul ders alone.

Bush stated du ring his firs t official visi t as President to Israel last January that he still cons iders Iran a "grave threat to regional peace and stab i l ity~ even if the Shiite regime has indeed halted its nucl ear wea pons program. Th is raised some hopes in Jerusalem that the lame-duck American leader might still order a mi litary stri ke on Ira nian nuclear facilities, and possi bly oth er targets in the Musl im natio n as well.

However, given that a majori ty of Americans now express oppos ition to the Bushinitiated war in Iraq (which some of my Israeli security co ntacts were wary of from

... more than a decade before Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany in 1933-he told supporters at a rally "If I am ever really in power, the destruction of the Jews will be my first and most important task:'

the start, fearing that the U.S.-led Western coalition was "going after the mouse, Saddam, allowing the rat next door- I ran- to go free" (as one of them put it to me), most Israeli politicians and analysts do not exped the Commander in Chief to seemi ngly brush aside the controversial U.S. intell igence estimate and take on Iran.

If Israel is forced to go it alone, it wi ll of course nOl be the fi rst time in history th at Ih is is the ease, or the first time that a Persian leader has vowed to destroy the Jewish people. As Hama n's evil decree to wipe out all the Jews throughout the Persia n Empi re was overtu rned by Israel's God in ancient days- using a beautiful Jewish wo man and her guard ia n uncle as Hi s agents- so many Israelis earnestly pray tha t thei r powerful God will miraculously intervene once again to thwart Iran's iniquitous vow to annihi late the world's only Jewish State.

Haman's demented designs were ch ill ingly echoed during the last centu ry in Nazi leader Adolph Hitl er's detenn inalion to set up a ul l1ird Reich N on the rotting bo nes o f world Jewry. As hi story sadly co nfirms, th e wicked German leader slaughtered over o ne thi rd of Eu ropean and North Africa n Jews du ring his ten yea rs in power. Israeli leaders are determi ned that his contempo rary counterpart,. Mahmoud Ah madi nejad, and his Shiite

clerical backers will not succeed in repeating that horrendous score, or even wo rse, in exceedi ng it.

last November, Air Force Commander Shekedyasked the head of his history department, Lieutenant Colonel Motti Habakuk, to compose a research paper comparing publ ic anti-Semitic statements made in the 1920s and 30s by Hitler with those uttered more recently by the rogue Iranian President. When he read the emotional report, the ma ny simi lari ties it contained shocked the retiri ng IAF ch ief, who then ordered th at every pilot in h is vaulted force be issued with a copy so thal they understood the full magnitude of the threat Iran is posing to Israel's very existence today.

One paragraph in the research paper was sa id to have particularly startled the IAF commander. It noted that in 1922- more than a decade before Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany in 1933- he told supporters at a ra lly "If I am ever really in power, the destructi on of the Jews will be my first and most im portan t task. ~ Soon after he was elected presi dent in a rigged vote in 2005, Ahmadinejad spoke at a govemmen tfunded conference titled "A World Without Zionism. U He stated bluntly that "Israel must be wiped off the map" - an ominous statement he has repeated in vari ous forms many times si nce then.

[.EACE TREATY THIS YEAR?

Despite the looming nuclear th reat posed by Iran, George W. Bush sounded very optimistic about the prospects for a final Israeli -Palesti nian peace acco rd this year. Speaki ng in Rama ll ah during his Jan uary Middle East visi t, the America n leader stanled many of his listeners by proclaiming that he "believes a peace treaty will be achieved" before he leaves office in Jan uary 2009. The President said it would feature the estab lishment of a Palestini an state ~ l iving side by side in peace with Israel."

Most Israeli poli tical ana lysts echoed opposi tion leader Binyami n Netanyahu and others who said such a possibility was remote in the extreme. They noted that Prime Minister Ehud O lmert, who hosted Bush and Condolee.zza Rice, was scraping the botto m of th e popularity barrel in all Israeli opin ion surveys, and was th erefore in no position to win pub li c or Knesset approval for what would undoubtedly be a highly controversia l peace treaty. At the very least, a fina l accord would most likely mandate the uprooting of hund reds of th ousands of Jews fro m their beloved homes in Judaism's biblical heartland, Judea and Samaria, if not the re-division of Israel's etern al capi ta l ci ty, Jerusa lem.

Proving just how diffi cu lt it will be to

secure widespread approval for any final peace accord, P.M. Olmert lost one of his

coalition panners, the Russian im migrant Yisrael Bei teinu (Israel [s My Home) party just five days after th e current Whi te House occupant wrapped up h is sho rt visit. Party head Avigdo r Lieberman (who had ironi ca lly been the cab inet m in ister assigned to keep specia l walCh on the Ira nia n threat) made cl ear th at he coul d not si t in a governmen t that was indicating its willi ngness to discuss ha nding over po rti ons of Jerusalem to Palestini an co ntro l, as ca ll ed for by the visiting American Secretary of Sta te.

Yisrael Bei te in u's defecti on bro ught O lmert's ru ling coa lition down to just 67 sea ts in the 120 mem ber Knesset. Analysts pointed out that if the re ligious Shas party fo llowed suit- as it vowed it woul d if the Israeli Prime Minister so much as hin ted during negotia tio ns that he was prepared to hand over any pon io n o f Judaism's holiest city on earth to Arab Musli m control- the Kadima led govern ment would probably co ll apse.

The fact that Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas lost total control over nearly half of his people last June, when the Gaza Strip violen tly fell to radical Hamas control, does not exactJy raise di m expectations that Olmert's Arab counterpart is in any posit ion to agree to a fi na l peace accord later th is year. Heavi ly backed both fi nanciall y and mili tarily by Iran, Hamas leaders have made abundantly cl ear that th ey will

For Left: CHILLINGLY REMINISCENT of Hitler's moss rallies, this photo captures Ahmadinejad utilizing the very same techniques to rouse the passians of his people.

"LIGHT SURROUNDED ME AS SOON AS I SAID "IN THE NAME OF GOD~ and I was surraunded by a light until the end of my speech. I felt the atmosphere had changed there, and for 27-28 minutes all the leaders didn't blink." Thus describes Ahmadinejad of his September 2005 speech before the U.N. He believes thaI he is the one chosen to bring the Arab Messiah, the "Mahdi H or "12th Imam."

A WORLD WITHOUT ZIONISM was an impressive multi-media presentatian and conference held in Tehran in October 2005 attended by 4,000 students. Iran's leader warned the world "Anyone who recagnizes Israel will burn in the fire af the Islamic nation's fury ... Israel must be wiped off the mop."

never agree to accept any treaty wi th "the Zionist enemy/ even if it leads to the creation of a Palestinian state.

Most Israeli Middle East analysts mai ntai n th at President Bush's rather naive ·vision n that a final peace accord wi ll actually become rea lity by January 2009 would only be possible if Iran is somehow first taken completely out of the pi cture. While there is even the slimmest chance that it can bomb Israel into the proverbial Stone Age, radical groups li ke Hamas, Islami c Jihad and the Shiite Lebanese Hezboll ah mi lit ia will never accede to a fina l Palestinian-Israeli peace accord. Nor wi ll Israel's nasty northeastem neighbor Syria, wh ich is closely a llied with Iran and fully ca pable militarily of wrecking any treaty on its own.

Iran's Nuclear Threat:

I S

In one of the most bizarre twists of U.s. foreign policy si nce the American army found no weapons o f mass destruction

in Iraq, the u.s. intelligence community delivered a stunning about-face in their assessment of Iranian nucl ear ambitio ns.

All 16 U.S. intelli gence agencies have concluded that Iran Slopped pu rsuing a nuclear weapons development program in the fall of 2003, due to, they say, international pressure.

Actually, the truth is that before Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came on the Iranian scene (August 2005), me world community really didn't put a lot of pressure on Iran to stop their nuclear weapons program because their focus was elsewhere-in Iraq and Afghanistan. But the U.S. National Intell igence Estimate (NlE) last month gives no o ther clue as to why Iran's plans to make nuclear bombs came to a dead stop in 2003.

l wo years ago in May 1005 the 16 U. S. intelligence agencies reported in their NIE Nwit h high co nfidence that I ran currently is determined to develop nuclear weapons. N

Last month th e same 16 agencies reported, NWe judge with high confidence th at in fall 2003, Teheran halted its nuclear weapons program.

What is striking about this latest NIE assessment is th at it basical ly repeats what it publicized in 200S-but with vel)' different conclusions. The recent analysis continues:

8 I Jewish Voice Today MARCHlAPFJL.IOO8

It

1. Fissi le ma teri al (enriched uranium) could be diverted to hidden nuclear si tes to create nuclear weapons.

2 . IriJJL bas lh~ l~d llli(a l a lld iwJuslr ial

capacity to build a bomb. 3. Iran could produce a nucl ear weap

on anyti me from 2010-2015.

Not much different at all from what they said two years ago! So why th e sudden change in conclusions by the American intelligence community?

In an article called NBushwhackedN by the Jerusalem Post's Editor-in-Chief David Horowitz, he writes that afte r a dose reading of the material re leased from the National IrHell igence Estimate. he has come to the conclusion th at the May 2005 report and the December 2007 report are basically the same. What is clear, Horowitz says, is that Iran "has made huge strides towards a nudear capability. Ind ispuL.bly it is constantly improving its uranium enrichment ca pabi lities. N At best it is only a couple of years from a bomb, if not sooner.

Besides, Horowitz reminds us, Tehran holds the world's second largest oil and natura l gas reserves. He points out that "investing colossa l sums of money in uranium enrichment and related activit ies for the sa le pu rpose of developing alternate energy sources is precisely zero."

He states that the further he got into

the officia l report, the scarier it beca me: Nlranian entities are continuing to develop a range of technical capabiliti es th at could be appl ieu to producing nuclear weapons, R

reads the report. Really? Here is what th e U.S. agencies are rea l·

Iy saying, concludes Horowitz. NThe Iranians are bent on achievi ng a nucl ear weapons capabi lity, have the skill s to do so and have established covert programs for doing so, are determinedly expanding the uran ium enri chment activities crucia l to such a goal, and can be expected to agai n switch to covert stra tegies when Lhey make their final push for a nuclear device. R (Jerusalem Post, 7De(07)

AGENDAS SHAPE CONCLUSIONS One of th e mosl astute observers in

Israel, Yuval Steinitz, member of the Knesset's Foridgn Affairs and Defense Committee and head of its subco mmittee on intelligence, says both the U.S. and Israel agree that Iran's "civilian N uranium enrich ment program is continuing and could one day, fair ly quickly, turn in to a milital)' program easily capable of producing a bomb.

Steinitz explains the results of what he ca lls the Npendulum syndromeN that affects many intelligence agencies. ci11e U.S. His i nfluenced, ~ he says, Nbya political agenda and is still traumatized by the blatant intel ligence fa ilure vis-a-vis Iraq's alleged WMD,

and therefore does not want to be caught crying wolf again. Israel, on the alher hand, must maintain a worst case scenario point of view. One single miscalrulalion in assessmem could mean the end of Israel.

WILL SANCTIONS HELP? But what were the u.S. intell igence offi

cials thinking when they released such a report? Did they not know that they would take the wind out of all President George W. Bush's attempts to pull together the United Nations Security Council to impose stronger sanClions against Iran? Wouldn't they be aware that their assessment would embolden Iran and its radical leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to actually speed up their nuclear programs, bOlh overt and covert?

Israeli officials aCross the board believe that sanctions could make the difference. Heavy sanctions could so hurt the Iranian economy that the ayatollahs could be forced

U A5 a result of these traumas, W explains Steinitz, ueach country interprets the situation a li ttle differen tly. Israel takes the more stringent track, since it is better to be safe than sorry. America takes the more lax approach, so as

not to find itself in the midst of an unjustifiablewar.~ (IP 7Dec07).

When it is all said and done, Israel and the U. S., and even some European countries agree on the dangers. The unanswered question is what is the time line? Is it 2009 as Israel fears? Or is it 2010-2015 as the NIE estimates?

Former Chief of Staff Shaul Mofaz, who is in charge of strategic dialogue wi th the U.S. on Iran, simply says that the U.s., Europe and Israel do not know enough about Iran's attemp ts to develop nuclear weapons. The intelligence esti mate can simply be interpreted in many ways.

to stop thei r nuclear pursuits. Sanctions are the only hope for avoiding a war-now or later- according to Israeli thinking.

But Conservative columnist Daniel Pipes fears that the NIE has greatly damaged the chances that the U.N. Security Council will now impose tougher sana ions. He fears that the U.N. resolution will be so watered down that it will have liu.le impaa on Mr. Ahmadinejad and company. He lashed out at the American intelligence agencies, calling them ushort_ sighted, small mi nded, blatandy part isa n intelligence bureaucrats, trying to hide unpleasant realities, N which he believes will engineer tlleir own nightmare. (www.Daniel-Pi pes.org).

IS WAR IMMINENT? A1most certainly, the NIE conclusions

have put the kabash on a U.S. military strike on Iran's massive nuclear facilities during the remainder of George W. Bush's term. Yet one th ing is for sure. Israel cannot enterta in the slightest poss ib ility of a first-mike against her, as one nuclear bomb would obliterate the Jewish state.

That possibility may bring Israel to face the need for a pre-emptive strike. But the chances of success are not very great. There are hundreds of known nuclea r sites in [ran and Israel's air force assets are small compared to u .S. missi le capabilities.

uThere are multi ple targets, all well protected, (plus] fu ll Iranian awareness that Israel has them within range, N reflects edi tor Horowitz. Besides lhat, Iran has the expenise and the raw malerials LO rebuild after any attack, "and a terrifying Iranian capacity LO retaliate. W

Yet it may fall to Israel to choose between accepting a nuclear [ran or goi ng it alone to knock them out. Indeed, if th e ayaLOllahs do get the bomb, Uthey wouldn't even have to use it in order lO totally destroy our Israeli economy and shatter our ltaliultal psyche, W obselVes Horowitz.

Another incredible da nger wou ld be if Iran supplied Hizbullah or some other terrorist group with a nuclear weapon. ulran seems to be gaining the upper hand, W writes Horowitz. "For when all the nuances of the latest American intell igence estimate are digested, the fu ndamental message is that Iran, as th ings sland, is serenely enriching the material it needs for a bomb and will be able LO weaponize as soon as it wan ts to." (II' 7Dec07)

Wi th out ever detonating a nuclear weapon, Iran could wreak havoc both in terms of international serurity and the world economy.

Analyst Yaakov Katz reminds at the same time, however, Israel is aware that even if it might be left alone 10 deal with Iran militarily, it will need American assistance. \,\Iithout the codes to American fighter jets in the region- particularly those operating over Iraq and Afghanistan- an attack by Israel's air force would go from extremely diffiruh to almost impossible. When [srael requested these codes in 199] during the First Gulf War to respond to Saddam Hussein's Srud attacks on Israel, the u.S. said no and the Israeli planes stayed at their bases.

A NUCLEAR REACTOR mode in Russio and being prepared (or shipment to Bushehr in Iron

To make a bomb, Teheran must obtain uranium. One place we know that Iran has attempted to

purchase (and may already have received) uranium is from mines in the

Congo. A hidden shipment of uranium from there was discovered on a routine check as it went through Tanzania in Cktober 2005 on its way to Iran. (The Sunday Times, 6Aug06) Uranium in its natural state usually has 0.7% uranium-

235, a name for a type of atom with a certain number of neutrons (called

isotopes). Nuclear reactors for civilian use run on low-enriched uranium (LEU) which usually needs 3% - 5% of uranium-235. That means the uranium must

be enriched -which is what Iran claims she is doing - for ~peaceful purposes.w

The uranium is enriched by changing its molecular makeup and extracting the desired uranium-235 isotope. The enriched uranium is placed in a nuclear

reactor, which initiates and controls a steady nuclear chain reaction producing energy and electricity. However, the danger to the Free World is that Iran can take their growing stock of LEU and can rather quickly reconfigure

the uranium into HEU, highly enriched urilnium or 90% urilnium-235 - which can be used in nuclear weapons, if they have perfected the techniques. HEU is also the ingredient used to produce plutonium, the ultimate isotope-of

choice for making nuclear bombs.

ISRAEL'S UNDERSTANDING OF THE GLOBAL STRUGGLE

[sraeli Journalist Menashe Amir puts it this way. The ayatollahs have th ree ambitions they plan to accomplish in three phases.

1. They want to deSlroy Israel. They see it as a religious imperative. "We are on occupied Musli m territory. We must be removed. W

2. They want to assert leadership over the Muslim world. And they are usi ng Israel and the Palestinia n issue as the foca l point to draw the Musli m world behind them.

3. Further off. they want to co nfront Christianity and Western culture- to defeat the infidels. (Ibid., 15Dec 06)

ConselVative opinion makers such as Daniel Pipes believe that the NIE report could bring war closer than ever. 'Ihe day [ finished this article, I woke up 10 the headlines: Avi Dichter: U.S. report on [ran may lead to a 'Yom Kippur' war. Avi Diner is Israel's Public Security Minister and former head of Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and probably knows as many of Iran's secrets as any westerner alive. He warns that Israel could suffer a surprise attack from Iran just as she did on Yom Kippur of 1973 when the combined annies of Egypt and Syria attacked Israel. (Ibid., 18Dec 07) For the first few days of that war, it appeared that Israel might be thrown into the sea. somewhat unperturbed, even wilh this information . The reason being lhat we all know what the Bible promises: [srael will never cease being a nation before God (Jeremiah 31 :36), one day all Israel will be saved, (Romans 11 :26) and God Himself will fight fo r Israel (Zechariah 14:3 ).

Israel wi ll not be thrown into th e sea. However-and this is a very big uhoweverw

_

the Bible does not say how many wars Israel will have to go th rough before the end comes, before Israel is saved-both physica lly and spiri tuall y.

The prince of Persia, of whom the angel Gabriel spoke to Daniel, is obviously on the war path again. Gabriel explained to the prophet that he, Gab riel, had no one fighting with him except Mi chael, Israel's prince. (Daniel 10:20)

If you will bear with me, [ don't believe the success of Israel's mi litary in this existential struggle is dependent on how many Russian Jews im migrate to Israel, although th is phenomenon is clearly prophesied in the Old Testament. Nor is it dependent on bringing Jews from Ethiopia or any other country to the land, although the Word of God promises this will happen. It isn't even how many hospitals or orphans Christia ns give to in Israel, or how many trees lhey plant although th ese are good and righteous things to do, and should be done.

Before you wonder where I am going, let me simply put the emphasis where [ think it should be. Israel's future is depen dent on Jewish men, women and chil d ren turning back to the God of Israel, repenting of th eir sins an d receiving the atonemelll of God's sacrificial Lamb, Yeshua. Help will come from the Lord as more and more Israelis turn their faces towards heaven, pleading for mercy and help from above. The angel Michael will bring in His troops at th e Lord's directives when the Jewish people call on Him to do so.

The Gospel must be preached to the Israeli people. It's that simple.

PROPHECY & TRUTH BEHIND THE HEADLINES •

T a • SIO lyOel

BY/ANMARKELL Tha Will Not Die I

n January President Bush visited Israel with many goals in mind. He longs to see a Palestinian state before he leaves

office in January of 2009. He visited with many leaders in Israel and the Arab world as it concenlS the threat of lslamo-fascism. He addressed Arab oi l leaders and warned them of destabilizing the world with high prices. And he cominued to push his message that all nations-even Islamic nations steeped in Sharia law and loving it-really want and deserve true democracy.

As Christian commentator Cal lhomas writes, uE.xj,ibiling far greater faith than believing Jesus could walk on water, the President asserted that 'peace' could be had between Israel, the Palestinians, and her Arab neighbors."

The world has been in that delusion for years now. The delusio n that peace and stability in the Mideast and world will be greatly furthered if there can be a Htwo-state soluti on~ with Israelis and Palestinians living side by side on God's covenant [and.

Does no one recal[ that since 1937 there have been 18 formal attempts by commissions, conferences, resolutions, summits and more to persuade the Jewish lamb to liedown with the Arab lion? The deception and delusion is that the Palestinians, in conjunction with Arab and Muslim states, will stop trying to destroy Israel if a new state is created in the region. Such a state would on ly flood Israel with even more enemies and encourage those committed to Israel's destruction.

With the President's good intent o ne

might think that the Palestinian and Arab world could tone down theirami-[srael rhetoric for just three days. Instead, during his visiL the Palestinian media intensified their demands calling once again for the destruction oflsrael. As the President was in Israel talking peace, Palestinians were reigning rockets down on Israeli cities. In Gaza, 20,000 terrorists were chanting about 8Bush the vampire~ as he was promoting their cause This can only be strong delusion on the part of those that think this idea is going to work!

Cal Thomas continues, 8[(, after a[ 1 of Israel's concessions, her enemies (who are also America's enemies) have failed to take a single step towards peace, what makes anyo ne think that more concessions will tum a o ne-way street into a two-lane highway?

Hlf freedom is for everyone, why don't those in oppressed Arab and Muslim states overthrow their dictatorial leaders? Why don't these 'un-free' people support the freedom in those countries to which some flee instead of seeking to undermine them and separate themselves from cu lture and nationallife? Their idea of freedom is to be free of our freedom and impose Sharia law on all. ~

The delusional push for Mideast peace which witl lead to world peace will on ly bring on more instability and war-and particularly for America's only true ally in that region, Israel.

Yet the White House and State Department remain committed to achieving peace even tJ10Ugh one side glorifies suicide bomb-

ing and thrives on hatred. [n the past, those pushing this process along indicated that it came with a stiff price: "'The United States will not support the establishment of a Palestinian state, H the President said in his speech of June, 2002, "unti l its leaders engage in a sustained fight against the terrorists and dismantJe their infrastructure." And yet as it stands today, even a portion of Jerusalem wil l be carved up and given to jihadists. Secretary Rice announced on Air Force One in January, according to colum nist Jeff Jacoby, thai that policy has gone by the boards, replaced by one less focused on achieving peace than on maintaining a Hpcacc process."

It would seem that the Bush admi nistration should be treating the troub lemakers as the root of the problem, allowing them no assistance of any kind, much less a movement toward statehood, thereby rewarding terrorism. It would seem the statement Hwith us or with the terrorists" has been dropped because the sentiment is o ne of bestowing statehood upon a regime thatstandsunequivocally wim lhe terrorists!

It wou ld appear that America is leading the global charge for the who le world in this travesty. Our nation's teaders need prayer for wisdom and guidance even if they reject the results.

It's as bizarre as Alice's Wonderland and th ere are a lot of Cheshire cats grinning in the Arab world because they know they've seduced America and other world powers into believing lies and myths.

The Biblical Connection to President Bush's Trip to Israel By BILL KOENIG

President George W. Bush came to Israel on a very

significant date and week to discuss the division of the

covenant land and the future of Jerusalem.

O n the Hebrew Calendar, Jan 8-9, 2008, sunset to sunset, was a New Moon, which is very significant on

the biblical calendar. It was the date of Shevat 1, the first day of the 11 th month. The New Moon is always sandified or set apart. The biblical significance ofil was not only being just the first of this particular month, but what happened on this very day, the first day of the 11 th month, 3400 yrs ago: Deuteronomy 1:3,8: "And it happened, in the fortieth year, in the eleventh m onth, on the first of the month, Moses spoke to the sons of Israel according to all that God had commanded him concerning them; Behold, [ have set before you the land; go in and possess the land which the LORD has sworn to your fathers, to Abrah am, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their seed after them. N

This was not only the first day of the eleventh mon th, but it was also the fortieth year since Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria and the Gola n Heights were reca ptured by Israel in 1967.

The Torah reading for the week of January 5 was Exodus 6:2-9.

The Torah and Haftarah readings for the weeks of January 5 and Ja nua ry 12 were very reveal i ng, too.

President Bush was in Israel from January 9 to Jan uary II. He then traveled to Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and arrived in Saudi Arabia on Mo nday, January 14, for three days and two ni ghts before traveling to Egypt o n Wednesday, January 16.

When President Bush was in Israel, the Torah teachings were God's reminder to Moses that He had established a covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to give them the land of Canaan; God stated that He remembered that covenant; He would take them to be His people; He would release them from the burdens of the Eb'YPtians; and He will bring them to the land that He gave them for their heritage.

The Haftarah readi ng for the week of Jan uary 5 was Ezekiel : 28:25-29:21, in the

Haftarah teachings, the Lord says,

The Torah reading for the week of January 12 was Exodus 10: 1-13: 16.

Bitter Cold, Rain, Wind and Cloudy Skies Accompanied President Bush's "Red Carpel" Ceremonies in the Middle East

When President Bush vis ited Israe l, th ere were mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s. However, when he was received by the Arab leaders, there was bitter cold, rain and winds that affected six of his "red-carpet welcome~ ceremonies and numerous other activities.

Wednesday, January 9: President Bush arrived in Tel Aviv, Israel, 10 a red-carpet welcome during mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the high 50s.

Thursday, January 10: A very rare Lo ndon-style fog in Jerusalem and in Rama llah thwarted President Bush's travel plans for his meeting in RamaJlah with Palestin ian President Mahmoud Abbas. Rather than taking Marine One for a IS-minute helicopter ride, he was forced to take a 45-minute ride in his 45-car-and-SUV-security caravan.

Once in Ramal lah, where he received a red carpet welcome by President Mahmoud Abbas, the temperature was in the low to mid-20s, windy and doudy. When the Bush-Abbas press briefing was co mpleted, the sun came out.

In the first day back in his office, President Bush huddled with the US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson on an emergency stimulus package for the US economy.

The next day, Friday, January 18, President Bush presented a proposal of $ 145 billion worth of tax relief as part of a plan to stimulate the U.S. economy amid fears that the subprime mortgage crisis, high energy costs, and faltering consumer confidence could tip the country into recession .

Bush said that Congress should work as soon as possible to send him legislation to Nkeep our economy growi ng and creating jobs."

• BILL'S STEWARDSHIP CDRNER

B y B ILL MUSTARD

I nlasl month's issue, we discussed the very lewish concept ofTzedakah, a multi-faceted word that has to do with the concept

of giving just because it is the right thing to do. This month, I would like to examine anomerequaJly multi-faceted English wordstewardship, but from a ]iule d ifferem perspective. Stewardship comes from a Greek word (don't they all!) that means ... we]l.. stewardship . . . management, oversight, administrat ion, guardianship.

Most of us understand the word stewardship as rela ted in the Parab le of the Talen ts found in Mathew 25 vs 14-27. ru 1 meditated on th is passage, I realized there were some deeper things to thin k about. Whi le we typically just cons ider th at the faithful servanlS brought back an increase in the talents they were given by the master-one five fo ld, one two fold-what we don 't often recognize is what that increase meant from the other side of the equation.

Let me expl ai n. When we go to the bank and invest our money in a savings account, or a CD, th at money does more than just earn interest. It provides the bank wi th the capital to loan out for mortgages, car loans etc. One of my favori te scenes from Ir's a Wonderful Life is when there is a run on the bank, and George Bailey explains to the investors just what their invested savings do for the rest of the communi ty. What we don't consider in the Parable of the Talents is that those tatems, when invested, brought back

20 I Jewish Voice Today MAACHIM'RIL)OO8

muhipJied blessings, no t just to the investor, but for the greater good as well.

Some time ago, during our initial medicat outreach to Ethiopia, Jo nath an and our tea m encountered some of the most abject and pervasive poverty found anywhere on earth. The people who live in the abandoned Jewish Community in Kechene, Addis Ababa, are essentially people without a country, deprived of the opportunity to work by the Ethiopian govern men t and denied retu rn to Israel by the current government; these Falashas or Uoutcasts" are the poorest of the poor, in a country that ranks economically near the bottom of the world comm unity.

Jonat han met with the elders to consider how to help the Beta Avraham Community beyond our medical/ hu manitarian outreach. Together, th ey determined that creating jobs was a first priori ty. As weaving is one of the trades already being practiced in the Kechene co mmunity, it was decided that we wou ld invest our "talents" in the making of tallits (Jewish prayer shawls) and pillow covers, that we would then offer to our Jewish Voice partners. At fi rst we only ordered a few hundred, knowi ng that they wou ld have to build up th e business to meet our demand.

As the saying goes, the rest is history. Jewish Voice partners responded by the thousa nds, completely overwhelm ing the com munity's ability to produce tall its. As new looms were purchased and new weav-

ers trained, more and more Tallits and pil · low covers were created, but at a pace fa r outstri pped by the demand!

If you are one who in vested Utalents" in the Kechene community, you may be growing anxious for your unique, handmade item from these precious people, but be encouraged-you have done far more than you ca n possibly begin to imagine! Your invest ment has a ripple effect-touching lives with the infectious quality of hope!

In speaking with our fulfill men t depart· ment, there is a large shipment on its way by boat th at should be arriving any day. However, some may come with light brown stains ... because the persoll who loomed it was very probably worki ng a ll a mud floor. I hope your eyes tear up like mine did the first time I saw one. Not on ly are we giving these destitute people a job and income, we are changing their lives through the love of their Messiah - the Messiah of Israel. Now that's good stewardshi p!

The: modem Messianic Jewish Movemen t followed closely upon the hft'ls of the 1967 Six-Day War, the Jesus

MovemelH and the Charismatic Renewal Movemelll of the early 19705. As hundreds of new Jt:wish believers wefe co ming to faith , the es tab lishment o f Messianic Synagogues as loca l Jewish expressions of Yeshua became neces~ary and inevitab le.

With this need for mu ltiplication of Messianic Congrega tions came th e screaming de mand for specialized training of Jewish leaders aoive for the Kingdom of God within hundreds of local Jewish communities. A1though attempts have been made on

several fronts over the many years since then, o nly now has the grand est of opponunities for trai ning Messianic Jewish Leaders appeared.

In Apri l 2007, Jona· than Bemis felt led of Cod to share with longtime friend of the Messianic Jewish Movement, lack Hayford, his concem for the establishment of a fu lly accredi ted, theologically tested, praclica l ministry-oriented and Israel-friendly academic program for training Messianic rabbi s and pasto rs, key laypersons and vital leaders, and Jewish evanb>elists and disciple-makers. Jack Hayford, former pastor of Church on the Way in Van uys, California,

and both Founder and Chancellor of 'ine King's OJllege and Seminary, leaped in faith with spiritual confirmation that this was indeed the hean of God and critica l to the very real needs of MAli Israel. ~

An ad-hoc committee was fom,ed in June 2007 to disruss this proposal with the leaders of The King's College and Seminary. Jonathan Bemis, Daniel Juster, Wayne Wilks, f{ay Ga nnon and others disrussed Seminary compatibility with Messianic faith and pmaice and other praoleal concerns with the seminary's administrators and chieffacuhy. An amazingly easy merging of heans and spirits confinned toall involved that the establishment of a solid

Messianic educational program at 'Ine King's was indeed the mind of the Master.

Ray Ganno n (Ph .D. Hebrew Un ive.rsity of Jerusalem) was tapped to spea rhead and di rect the Messianic Jewish Studi es program. Michael L Brown (Ph .D. New York University), Rabbi Dr. Daniel Juster (Tikkun), Rabbi Dr. David Rudolph (Ph .D. Cambri dge University) together wit h Rabbi Jo nathan Bemis became the firs t adjunct faculty members for lhe King's program for Messianic Jewish Studies.

Fall and Winter courses have been taught with growing student participation as the new program is becoming known. Two 3-day modular courses with Rabbis David Rudo lph and Jonathan Bemis wi ll be taught onsile at TKS lhe first week of May. Dr. Michael Brown and Dr. Dan Juster will teach modules in June and July respectively. Dr. Ray Gannon is offering a slate of Messianic online courses throughout the academic year. The 2008-2009 academic year's course offerings will soon be published.

Prom just one television broadcast of "Jewish Voice with Jo nathan Bemis," mOfe people can hea r the message of

sa lvation than Yeshua reached in His entire eanhly life. God has called Jewish Voice Minisuies ( 0 proclaim Messiah to the Jew fi rst and also to the nations, and He has given us access 10 the remarkable tool of television, which we are utilizing to reach the world wh ile we have the oppo nunity. According to Jonathan Berni s' vision for outreach, we are ready wi th the new International Messianic Media Center that Jewish Vo ice Ministries International, IVMJ, now ca lls home and are ab le to act on th e vision with greater reach and effectiveness to impact th e world . We caught up with th e new addition to th~ M~d ia t~a 1l1 , Director of Media, Andy Freeman to get some insight into the Medi a ministry.

The Center Wi th the recent completi on of the

International Messianic Media Center, a state-of-the-art faci lity Illea ns leading-edge equipment, High Definition ( HD) television studio and ed iti ng setup for the H D productio n of Jewish Voice with Jo nathan Bemis. Andy Freeman, exp lai ns, ~ the Media departmen t documents the work of JVM I at home ;md abroad-videotaping hu ma nitarian outreaches, conferences, festiva ls and oth er open doo rs for ministry and creates programs and specia ls th at teach, preach an d proclaim Yeshua 1.0 Ihe losl and ce lebrate those already in God's Kingdom. ·

The facility wi ll be used to produce documentaries, outreach pieces, and other

Messianic programming ,md the new equi pment and studi os will enable JVM I to provide HD programming to networks such as TBN HO, as they migrate to H D, as well as provide higher-qua lity Standard Definitio n (SO) programming immediately to viewers watchi ng o n Ch risti an networks around the world.

The Vision Jonathan Bemis' vision fo r outreach

and discipleship is reflected in the weekly televis io n program th at is now airing nationally an d internationa lly. The goa l is to air the program on Major Christian 'IV networks, and a variety o f other similar outlets worldwide. However, o ne of the most exciting future visions is 10 produce high quality programming fo r secu lar tel evision. Andy Freeman elaborates, "We are beginning 1.0 plan a television strategy to

Page 25: Is War Imminent For Israel - Jvt - Mar Apr 2008

reach Jewish people in the U.S. and Europe through commercial television by creating television specials that specifically touch Jewish men, women and children in a way that meets them right where they live, answers their questions honesdy and offers them the opportunity to meet Yeshua. ~

The Reach We will quadruple our national televi

sion coverage wi th the addition of ni ne national secular and religious networks, including ABC Family, Family Net, Pax, Ion Cable, NRB Netwo rk, Trinity Broadcasting Network, WGN, Chicago and the Superstation. With these powerful networks and stations, we will be able to potentially reach a sign ificant percentage of the American

television audience with the Good News of lesus. Together with th e 'IV outlets we have now, we beli eve that we can significantly increase our reach and effectiveness.

Jewish Voice's worldwide television coverage would be significantly embellished with the add ition of two additional internationa l 'IV satell ite networks: the Gospel Channel in Europe (reaching 4S-million households in 77-countries) and CNLChristian Russian lV (reaching 2S-million Russian speaking households).

We also want to expand to TBN and Enlace LISA 10 reach the large North and Central Alnerican Hispanic population. These networks will increase our Spanish language outreach efforts drastically. As a result of a partnership with TBN (the world's biggest faith network), and En lace (the biggest Christian Network in I..a tin America), Jewish Voice would provide Spanish translation of our programs to a potential IG.5-million Spanish-speaking households in the U.S., Mexico and Costa Rica. Together, they have an overlapping coverage of GOO-mi ll ion households.

"\Ve want to use Media to introduce Jewish People to th eir Messiah, and to teach Christians the importance of their historical and Spiritual roots that are shared with

th e Jewish people. Our goal is to use televi sion and the in ternet to deliver programs that inspire, inform an d renew hearts for Yeshua. God has called us to be one in His Son, Jesus. We are not oppos ing teams battling one another for victory, whil e th e other loses th e prize. Scripture cl early declares we are a body: many parts fu nctioning together for the glory of the Lord. We also must remember th at the Lord has grafted us in to th e tree He planted as His relation-

ship through His covenant with Abraham. As Christians, we are doubly blessed to li ve in the new covenan t through Israel's Messiah and be benefactors of the heritage of faith handed down fro m the first covenant, " Andy expounds as he wa nts h is audiences to know and confirms, NV'I'e truly need the prayers of our friends and partners to ask the Lord that these programs will help open the eyes of even the most skeptical Jewish person."
