PLACES SMOKING AFFECTS THE BODY

Page 9: IS WACKO Tobacco. Tobacco: A tall, leafy annual plant originally grown in South and Central America. Nicotine: A stimulant that is naturally found in.

Tobacco can be burned and inhaled in the form of cigarettes, cigars, pipes, ect.

It can also be absorbed through the form of spit tobacco, chew, or snuff.

New users may experience coughing, a dry, irritated throat, nausea, weakness, abdominal cramps, headache, and coughing/ gagging.

This goes away once the smoker builds a tolerance for tobacco. Smokers start smoking because they feel that they can quit whenever they want.

LONG TERM EFFECTS

Long-term effects are mainly on the bronchopulmonary and cardiovascular systems. Smoking is the main cause of lung cancer (related to 90% of all lung cancer cases). An average smoker is 10 times more likely to get lung cancer than a non-smoker. Smoking is estimated to be responsible for 30% of all cancer deaths. It is also associated with cancers of the mouth, throat, colon, pancreas, bladder, kidneys, stomach, and cervix, and related to 75% of chronic bronchitis cases and 80% of emphysema cases.

SMOKING AROUND

CHILDRENSmoking around your kids can not only get them hooked on the habit later on in life, but you are also giving them a huge head start on their way to lung cancer, emphysema and other tobacco related illnesses.

This pile of cigarettes is disgusting enough to look at on its own but imagine how big the pile is for the cigarettes that were smoked to generate this much second hand smoke?

TEENS SMOKE FOR MANY REASONS AND OFTEN FOR THE SAME REASONS AS ADULTS DO: TO COPE WITH STRESS, TO CONTROL THEIR WEIGHT, AS A SOCIAL

HABIT AND TO COMBAT BOREDOM. ONE OF THE BIGGEST REASONS TEENS START TO SMOKE IS PEER INFLUENCE -

THEIR FRIENDS DO IT. STUDIES SHOW THAT THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE FOR GIRLS. THERE'S CLEAR EVIDENCE THAT TOBACCO COMPANIES TARGET CHILDREN IN

THEIR MARKETING. SOME OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE ARE SPORTS SPONSORSHIPS - FOR EXAMPLE, BOYS ARE TWICE AS LIKELY TO SMOKE IF THEY FOLLOW CAR RACING. MOVIES TOO - THE MORE KIDS SEES THEIR FAVORITE MOVIE STARS

SMOKING ON THE SCREEN, THE MORE LIKELY THEY'LL TRY IT THEMSELVES. SOME RESEARCHERS THINK THAT TOBACCO ADVERTISING CARRIES EVEN MORE WEIGHT

THAN PEER INFLUENCE.FINALLY, THE MAIN REASON THAT KIDS SMOKE IS THAT ADULTS DO. SMOKING IS

SEEN AS ADULT BEHAVIOR AND KIDS ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR WAYS TO BE MORE GROWN UP.

Harmful chemicals

Spit tobacco contains more nicotine than cigarettes do. It also contains over 3,000 chemicals, including 28 known cancer-causing chemicals .

Spit tobacco causes oral cancer, and increases the risk of cancers of the throat, voice box and esophagus. On average, half of all oral cancer victims die within five years.
