Armoire is the French word for a large antique wardrobe, generally hiding away long kept treasures and cherished memories. Mine are often connected to my childhood when I used to spend wonderful sum-mer holidays in the Burgundy countryside at my mamie’s (French for granny).

I would pick flowers and arrange them in lovely bouquets, have tea parties with my imaginary guests, walk up to the dairy farm holding my mamie’s hand in the streets of the tiny village, or spend time at the ‘lavoir’ (wash house) where cheerful ladies were doing their laundry in the cold water. This was another time, a much slower pace when I would hang around in the warm summer breeze, and dream away to the sound of the old sewing machine coming out from the open window.
